Hosting several sites on a server... change default site? - apache

I have an AWS instance running Amazon Linux 2.
I'm currently hosting several sites on it using vhosts.conf
my problem is that if the IP address of the server is entered into the browser then the first site i setup on this server is shown.
I'd like to just show a blank page rather than one specific site.
This seems to have become an issue because when one of my hosted clients put their URL into an email in outlook live it shows a thumbnail and excerpt from the site, but it's showing the wrong site!
Apparently outlook live uses Bing to show this information, and i can only think that it's looking up the IP address and being presented with contents from the (incorrect) default website.
Thanks!

Browse Verdaccio UI by Hostname or IP

I have installed Verdaccio under Ubuntu.
Packages are published and accessible.
The machine is accessible via two different aliases, as well as via IP address.
When I now open the Web UI of Verdaccio, the published packages are only displayed in the first one called (e.g. npm.xxx.com). If I then open the Web UI by calling the IP address or the other alias, the info appears that no packages have been published yet and the previously used URL (npm.xxx.com) is displayed as the registry.
I have tested both with and without reverse proxy, the behaviour is the same in both. The Proxy got all serverAlias as well as the IP adress.
The service only runs once, if it is stopped, all calls fail.
Also, there is only one config file and if you change the appearance of the web UI, this change is displayed for all calls.
How can I make it so that no matter which URL is used to call up the Web UI, the existing packages are displayed?
Cheers
Anjs
I think is not possible at this point, there were some discussions like here
https://github.com/verdaccio/verdaccio/discussions/3474#discussion-4541243
If you open dev tools, the browser expects to serve them in a specific domain and you don't see packages because JS fails on load, independently if is right or not behavior is open t discussion, just is how it is now.
Probably there are more, I've replied to the same question a few times. The recommendation is to use one domain at this point.

IIS8 site not working locally to server

New to IIS8, but previously created sites on an IIS7.5 server without any problems. I've created a site on IIS8 and although the pages are being served to remote computers, when I click 'Browse Website' in IIS, the server itself cannot see the page. Any suggestions? Could it be permission based?
I feel this may be linked to a problem we're having downloading images.
You didn't mention the specifics of "the server itself cannot see the page". However, since you can access the site remotely but not locally, it sounds like it may be anti-loopback checking. Check out http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jiruss/archive/2008/10/21/loopback-security-check-feature-iis-7.aspx and see if it applies in your case.

How to prevent bandwidth theft of my website and why I find my website IP address sometimes dedicated & sometimes shared

I think someone is stealing bandwidth of my website. To prevent this I enabled hotlink. But there are only extensions related to image. How can I protect my other files with extensions like .php or .asp? When I add .php or .asp extensions, I was unable to access in my website.
Another thing is, I found, in my cpanel IP address of my website sometimes appears as dedicated and sometimes as shared. Why is this happening?
I found static.reverse.softlayer.com in my visitors list. But which web pages it visited are not displayed. Please help me.
You can only protect secondary material from hotlinking, for example images, Javascript files and CSS files. Because those are fetched from a page in your site, the server can determine if they are used correctly or not.
If you try to keep primary material (e.g. the actual web pages) from being hotlinked, you are actually keeping them from being fetched at all. Any resource that you want to be available directly can't be locked down that way.

Reaching website through IIS from an other computer

I think I'm almost done with this problem but there is something off. Perhaps you guys can help me out.
I've created a website which I can reach through C:\inetpub\wwwroot\KLABrowser\publish.htm.
I've created a website through IIS called KLABrowser. The http binding is listed on port 1111, with * as IP adress.
When going to http://xxx.xx.xx.xx:1111/KLABrowser/publish.htm, I get a Cannot find page error. When I go to http://xxx.xx.xx.xx/KLABrowser/publish.htm, I get a blank page but no error. When I hit the first link (the psychical path), I get to see the website.
What am I missing? What should I configure so that I can reach the website through my IP on an other computer in the local network?
This answer provided the solution.
You must specifically choose "Static Content" under Common HTTP Features in the same Add/Remove Windows Features list to show the page.

Fixed address bar url zend framework app

So first of, hi,
I have probably a simple issue but I'm not expert enough to figure out what the problem is.
I just deployed a zend framework application on a debian server. I have dotster as registrar and another provider for the dedicated server. The problem is about the domain mapping and the urls when navigating from page to page within the app.
Basically when I use the server ip, like 91.121.121.171/public/ to reach the app, the url works just fine and displays well in the address bar like 91.121.121.171/public/directory/dir-comp for example. But when I use the url www.ceramstar.org this stays fixed. Did I mess up with dotster config or Apache rewrite rule?
I must say I don't really get how to configure things properly on the dotster side...
Thanks a lot anyway
