If in Windows 10 I type wsl, ubuntu or cmd in the address bar of a directory, the relevant console is opened in that directory; is there a way to open the same way mintty/wsltty? I tried putting a shortcut and a symbolic link to wsltty.exe in system32, but it didn't work.
Ok, I found a solution just after opening the bounty: I made an AHK exe that runs Run %LOCALAPPDATA%\wsltty\bin\mintty.exe --WSL="Ubuntu" --configdir="%APPDATA%\wsltty" and placed it in system32.

I have windows 8, and I'm using the command prompt. It says C:\Windows\System32>
and if i try to change directory, it says "The system cannot find the path specified."
In this case, im typing the exact following command: cd desktop

Because your desktop folder is not in c:\windows\system32. Presumably, your Windows 7 cmd prompt started you in your user folder instead of system32.
Try this instead.
cd %userprofile%\Desktop
I had the same problem in windows 10. When I opened CMD as a user, the default path was on my user profile in which my desktop is set. So, when I wrote cd desktop, it found my desktop right away (below image).
However, when I run CMD as an administrator, the default path changes to C:\Windows\system32 which is my SystemRoot. Within this path, there is no desktop folder. Therefor, when you type `cd desktop it will produce an error (below image).
What you need to do is to address the whole file path in your cd command. In this way your computer will know where your file is located exactly (below image)
I had downloaded 'Lukeall-3.5.0' on http://code.google.com/p/luke/downloads/list It's a JAR file , but i don't know how let it work? Can somebody show me the detailed steps to run Luke? Thank you!
You can run eg. from command line issuing java -jar lukeall-3.5.0.jar command
If you want the .jar to run on double click then you have to make an association between .jar files and the program that needs to open them, javaw.exe. You can do this manually by following the steps below, or see this site for an automatic tool called Jarfix.
Right click the .jar and go to "Properties"
Click "Change"
Click "Browse..."
Navigate to your Java install folder
In the "bin" folder you should see "javaw"
Select "javaw" and click "Open"
Click "OK"
Click "Apply"
Tried everything including jarfix , javaW commandline but was not running.
Then I downloaded the jar from this link https://code.google.com/archive/p/luke/downloads. there are many .jar and .tgz file. I tried the latest one with "type-executable" label on it. And once it was downloaded somehow the extension got changed to .zip.
1) changed the extension back to .jar
2) right click open with -> Java(this was installed before)
Bingo! Luke opened up!
At first, you need to download and install Java Runtime to your PC.
Then open command prompt: press Windows Key + R, type cmd in the textbox and hit Ok.
Change directory to your jar file locating folder (using cd command), type java -jar .\yourFileName.jar and hit enter.

How to resolve Notepad++ "Writing error summary to C:\Program Files(x86)\ ...\HTMLTIDY.ERR" on Vista pc?
I have the latest version of notepad++ (just updated it two days ago).
When I try to run TextFX htmltidy, I get the above error reported by windows vista.
I've set permissions on the file htmltidy.err to allow everyone to modify/read/write/etc.
I do not understand file permissions in Win Visa.
2nd issue: I also have to click 'Allow' whenever I click to launch notepad++ even though I granted the program exe admin rights. UAC says it is an unidentified program.
Do I need to reboot to make these changes effective? What am I missing?

This is a Windows 7 restriction. Programs should not write into Program Files folder. Instead it should use a temporary folder like %TEMP% or/and %APPDATA%.
Another possible solution is to install Notepad++ outside Program Files folder, in that way you can hanle file and folder permissions by yourself.
I where working with a project and I closed because my computer was geting slow. When I tried to open my solution again xcode quitted. So everytime I try to open my project I get this error:
I am not able to open my solution. IS THERE A WAY I CAN RECOVER MY PROJECT!?
Nothing mentioned above/below worked for me. Here's what I did instead:
Right click on the .xcodeproj file and select Show Package Contents. Then delete the project.xcworkspace file. Open the project in Xcode and voilà.
There are a couple of things you can try, first make sure Xcode is not running ,trash the ~/Library/Cache/ folder contents, and trash the contents of the ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/ folder, if you what to can just find the stuff for your project in ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/ and trash just that. Then restart your computer.
If that doesn't work, rename your faulty projects folder to so method like ' old', create a new project of the same name, and then move all of the source files from ' old' to you new project and add them. Its a bit painful I known but I have had to do this once to get a project working again.
Double click the actual file! NOT the recent item!
Turns out that double-clicking on the actual file instead of selecting it from the Welcome to Xcode window will help open the project as expected!
Also, after the first time open it with double-clicking the file, the window will be fixed by itself 🤷🏻♂️
In my case, the project was moved to my iCloud Drive without me noticing it.
If it happens to you too, just go to your Finder, locate the project and check if there is a cloud next to it. Just right click it and "Download now". Try again once the download is finished.
I was having this issue with Xcode 12. Opening Xcode, and selecting my project from 'Recent projects' list was causing Xcode to crash
My solution: I navigated to the folder and opened ProjectName.xcworkspace file, then it worked
If you're working with git, right click the project-name.xcodeproj > Show Package Contents, open the file project.pbxproj and check for conflict and resolve it.
Quit Xcode, then make a copy of the xcworkspace file (just in case). In finder, right-click the xcworkspace file and choose Show File Contents.
In that directory, open the xcuserdata directory and delete any contents. Start Xcode again and open the project.
In my case there was something wrong with the saved project state, so doing this resets the state and it opened normally.
I had the same error and none of the above helped me.
Solution that helped me: Create a new project, then without closing it, go to
File -> Open
and select your .xcworkspace file.
How do you register a name for a program in the windows run dialog?

Besides the system path, there's also the App Paths in the registry. Visual Studio, for example, doesn't have its main app (devenv.exe) in the PATH, but you can still launch it from the Run dialog.
Available names are enumerated under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths, with corresponding launch paths as values under each name.

This works because those applications have added the directory containing their executable to Window's PATH variable. This variable is used to resolve the locations of any files entered into the run dialog (among other things).

There is no registration, your program .bat, .exe must be within the system path.
If you right-click on "My Computer" ->"Properties"-> "Advanced" then go to the "System Variable". You can edit the "Path" variable to include the location of your executable.
This has nothing to do with "registering" a program. Windows uses the current value of your PATH environment variable, and any executables found in those directories can be executed by simply typing the name into the Windows "Run" box (or command prompt, or anything else that launches executables).
Some programs add their directories to the PATH, others drop an executable (or even a batch file) into a well-known directory that is already part of the PATH, such as the Windows directory.
Add the program's path to your PATH variable.
