How to internationalization errors returned by API? - api

I'm wondering how to manage error in an API with multiple language.
I know there are multiple way to do that. I found 3.
Send a statusCode to front (with optionnal some data to manage dynamics values like : "you can manage only X users")
Send errors for all language ex :
{
en:"error is....",
fr:"l'erreur est...",
...
}
send just one error in the correct language
{
en:"error is...."
}
All of this have pro and cons...
the first :
+ API just manage statusCode and front(s) can manage error how it want
- API must manage dynamics error and send extra data
- Front must reformat the error (error + extra data)
others ?
the second :
+ error message can just be displayed on front without update it (but need to get the good one for the language client)
- back must manage error message for all language (if there are 10-50 or more language it's a little bit annoying)
- back end must take care of displaying message interstanding for a user (I think it's not is role)
others ?
the third :
+ error message can just be displayed on front without update it
- back end must take care of displaying message interstanding for a user (I think it's not is role)
- front must send the user's language at the session's begining and update this information if user change it
others ?
I think the third is the better but I don't know.
someone could say me what is the best solution and why ?
Thanks in advance :)

GoogleCalendarAPI to insert events giving Rails--[API Error]: --{:error=>["Excon::Error::Forbidden", "Expected([200]) <=> Actual(403 Forbidden)\n"]}

I have been using Google calendar API to insert events in user's calendar. I have written a code which takes csv(with approx 1000 rows) as an input with minimum required parameters to create events such as event_title, event_description, event_date (since its a full day event) and recipient email id..The code runs in background using sidekiq.
Out of 1000 rows , only some events are inserted in user's calendar. Most of them are giving Rails -- [API Error]: -- {:error=>["Excon::Error::Forbidden", "Expected([200]) <=> Actual(403 Forbidden)\n"]} error.
I have been using excon client (gem) to hit the urls to refresh token and inserting an event.
Token is refreshed
Loop (
Hitting API to insert events
)
rescue error
end
I couldnt figure out what's going wrong ?..Any help is appreciated. While registering my app in Google developer console , I have given the full scope of calendar api auth/calendar.
I tried setting Excon.defaults[:ssl_verify_peer] = false.
Implementing such api first time.
The 403 would indicate that the permissions are not valid in some way. My guesses would be that either the token is expiring, you are hitting some kind of rate limit, or something is different about the parameters for the failing request such that the particular event is not allowed.
Do you think any of those is more likely than the others? If it is the token expiring, you could try to catch the 403 error, refresh the token, and retry. If it's one of the others it might take a bit more digging to see why the ones that are failing are different from the ones that succeed.

ASP.NET Core Web API - Return a string message with a NoContent Response?

I have some records in the database that may or may not have some information for a certain column, and that's OK.
If a consumer of the endpoint runs into one of these records, I'd like to return "NoContent", because, well, there's No Content for that record that we can execute on. BUT ... I'd like to give them a message why, as there are two distinct reasons.
When looking at other status codes, this works:
return Accepted("I SEE THIS STRING!");
It actually shows up in the Response Header as the field location (I think, don't make me run this project again!)
This works for say Internal Server error:
return StatusCode(500, "I SEE THIS TOO!");
But, for NoContent there is no constructor like Accepted, where you can pass an object. Also, this shows me no string whatsoever:
return StatusCode(204, "WHY CAN'T I SEE THIS STRING?!");
Help!
204 (No Content) returns an HttpResponseMessage with, well, No Content.
If you do have content to return that the user can consume (the two reasons), then you don't have a No Content scenario.
Perhaps an Ok (200) with a custom ContentNotProvided class that holds a message, which can be consumed by the client, will do the trick?
Alternatively, return a BadRequest (400) with a message.

Http status code when data not found in Database

I'm trying to understand which Http Status Code to use in the following use case
The user tries to do a GET on an endpoint with an input ID.
The requested data is not available in the database.
Should the service send back:
404 - Not Found
As the data is NOT FOUND in the database
400 - Bad Request
As the data in the input request is not valid or present in the db
200 - OK with null response
200 - OK with an error message
In this case we can use a standard error message, with a contract that spans across all the 200 OK responses (like below).
BaseResponse {
Errors [{
Message: "Data Not Found"
}],
Response: null
}
Which is the right (or standard) approach to follow?
Thanks in advance.
Which is the right (or standard) approach to follow?
If you are following the REST API Architecture, you should follow these guidelines:
400 The request could not be understood by the server due to incorrect syntax. The client SHOULD NOT repeat the request without modifications.
It means that you received a bad request data, like an ID in alphanumeric format when you want only numeric IDs. Typically it refers to bad input formats or security checks (like an input array with a maxLength)
404 The server can not find the requested resource.
The ID format is valid and you can't find the resource in the data source.
If you don't follow any standard architecture, you should define how you want to manage these cases and share your thought with the team and customers.
In many legacy applications, an HTTP status 200 with errors field is very common since very-old clients were not so good to manage errors.

Wit.ai seems to be jumping randomly between stories

I have two separate simple stories on my Wit.ai bot,
the first one takes in the word "Debug", sends "test" then runs a function that outputs context stuff to the console called test_context()
the second one takes in an address, runs a function that changes the context called new_session(), then sends a confirmation of the change to the user structured like "your location has been changed to {address}"
when I type directly into the wit.ai test console it seems to correctly detect the stories and run the corresponding functions, but when I try to use it through the Node.js API it seems to act completely randomly.
Sometimes when typing in an address it will run test_context() followed by new_session(), then output no text, sometimes it will just output the test text followed by the address text and run no functions, sometimes it will act correctly.
The same behavior happens when inputting "Debug" as well.
The back end is set up correctly, as 2 other stories seem to be working perfectly fine.
Both of these stories were working fine earlier today, I have made no changes to the wit stories themselves and no change to the back-end has even touched the debug function.
Is this a known issue?
I encountered this problem as well.
It appears to me as when you do not handle setting context variables in the story from wit.ai correctly (by setting them to null for example), it messes up the story. As a developer it is your own responsability to handle the story correctly "client side", so I can understand wit.ai lets weird stuff happen when you do not do this. Maybe wit.ai decided to jump stories to keep their bot from crashing, still remains a bit mysterious to me. Maybe your problem is of a different kind, just sharing a similair observation and my solution.
Exactly for reasons of testing I created three stories;
handle greetings
tell what the weather in city x is
identify when you want to plan a meeting
The bot is connected to facebook and I handle actions (like planning a meeting) on my nodejs express server.
I said to the bot "I want to plan a meeting tomorrow", resulting in a wit date/time. One timeslot by the way. This is going ok. Then I sent the message "I want to plan a meeting this morning". This resulted in TWO date/time variables in the wit.ai context. In turn, my code could not handle this; two timestamps resulted in null (probably json message getting more complicated and I try to get the wrong field). This in turn resulted in null for the context variable that had to be returned.
So what I did is to catch the error for when the context variable is not filled and just fill in [wit.js could not find date]. This fixed the problem, even though I now of course need to handle this error better.
Old code:
'createAppointment': ({sessionId, context, text, entities}) => {
return new Promise(function(resolve, reject) {
const myDateTime = firstEntityValue(entities, 'datetime');
console.log('the time trying to send ',myDateTime);
createAppointment(context, myDateTime)
context.appointmentText = myDateTime
return resolve(context);
},}
New, working code:
'createAppointment': ({sessionId, context, text, entities}) => {
return new Promise(function(resolve, reject) {
const myDateTime = firstEntityValue(entities, 'datetime');
console.log('the time trying to send ',myDateTime);
if(myDateTime){
createAppointment(context, myDateTime)
context.appointmentText = myDateTime
return resolve(context);
} else {
context.appointmentText = '[wit.js could not find date]'
return resolve(context);
}
});
},
Hope this helps

I am trying to use Yodlee/executeUserSearchRequest as a RESTful request and need an answer on how to call

I am working with the Yodlee services in c# and using the RESTful api. So far I have successfully connected and logged in with my CobrandSession and UserSessionToken in the development environment. I used the sample apps provided in c# and with some advice from shreyans i got an app working. What I got working was
1) Get YodleeAuthentication
2) Get UserAuthentication
3) Get ItemSummaries
I am now trying to get the full transaction details for each of the Items (i.e. collections of accounts that are an Item)
reading the Docs here https://developer.yodlee.com/Indy_FinApp/Aggregation_Services_Guide/REST_API_Reference/executeUserSearchRequest it states that I need to call executeUserSearchRequest and then paginate through the results using the getUserTransactions. So I am stuck at this point. I dont really want a search which has parameters I just want ALL transactions for this account that I can see.
However, I am using the variables as defined in that page :-
var request = new RestRequest("/jsonsdk/TransactionSearchService/executeUserSearchRequest", Method.POST);
request.AddParameter("cobSessionToken", param.CobSessionToken);
request.AddParameter("userSessionToken", param.UserSessionToken);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.containerType", param.ContainerType);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.higherFetchLimit", param.HigherFetchLimit);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.lowerFetchLimit", param.LowerFetchLimit);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.resultRange.endNumber", param.EndNumber);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.resultRange.startNumber", param.StartNumber);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.searchFilter.currencyCode", param.CurrencyCode);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.searchFilter.postDateRange.fromDate", param.FromDate);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.searchFilter.postDateRange.toDate", param.ToDate);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.searchFilter.transactionSplitType.splitType", param.SplitType);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.ignoreUserInput", param.IgnoreUserInput);
request.AddParameter("transactionSearchRequest.searchFilter.itemAcctId", param.ItemAcctId);
var response = RestClientUtil.GetBase().Execute(request);
var content = response.Content;
return new YodleeServiceResultDto(content);
As per the response from shreyans in this posting Getting Error "Any one of [**] of transactionSearchFilter cannot be NULL OR Invalid Values I am not putting in the ClientId and the ClientName
The documentation doesn't specify the format of the dates but the example seems to tell me that its american date format. And specifies a parameter saying IgnoreUserinput, but doesnt have a parameter for user input so this is confusing
When I make a call using this format I get an error response
var getSearchResult = yodleeExecuteUserSearchRequest.Go(yodleeExecuteUserSearchRequestDto);
getSearchResult.Result="
{"errorOccured":"true","exceptionType":"Exception Occured","refrenceCode":"_60ecb1d7-a4c4-4914-b3cd-49182518ca5d"}"
But I get no error message in this and I have no idea what I have done wrong or where to look up this error, can somebody who has used Yodlee REST Api point me in the right direction as I need to get this researched quickly....
thanks your your help, advice, corrections and pointers....
Here is the list of parameters which you can try

transactionSearchRequest.ignoreUserInput=true
transactionSearchRequest.ignoreManualTransactions=false
transactionSearchRequest.searchFilter.transactionSplitType=ALL_TRANSACTION
transactionSearchRequest.searchFilter.itemAccountId.identifier=10000353
