Sqlalchemy use json_set to update specific JSON field - sql

I intend to use func function to update a specific JSON field in Sqlalchemy, but I get some problem, here is my code to update field:
self.db.query(TestModel).filter(TestModel.test_id == self._test_id).update(
{field_name: func.json_set(
field_name,
"$." + key,
formatted_val)}
, synchronize_session='fetch'
)
self.db.commit()
I ran the code above and got the error:
sqlalchemy.exc.OperationalError: (sqlite3.OperationalError) malformed JSON
So, I go to check the log, found Sqlalchemy form an SQL clause like that:
UPDATE test_model SET field_name=json_set('field_name', '$.keyname', 'value') WHERE test_model.test_id = 1;
the problem is Sqlalchemy should not use 'field_name' to specific the field it should use field_name to specific the field, and I try to run corrected sql clause below in sql client:
UPDATE test_model SET field_name=json_set(field_name, '$.keyname', 'value') WHERE test_model.test_id = 1;
and it work find
I just want to know how to make the Sqlalchemy form the correct field from 'field_name' to field_name?

You should pass first parameter with a name of model to function func.json_set:
self.db.query(TestModel).filter(TestModel.test_id == self._test_id).update(
{field_name: func.json_set(
TestModel.field_name,
"$." + key,
formatted_val)},
synchronize_session='fetch'
)
self.db.commit()

POSTGRES JSON: Updating array value in column

I am using POSTGRES SQL JSON.
In json column the value is stored as array which I want to update using SQL query
{"roles": ["Admin"]}
The output in table column should be
{"roles": ["SYSTEM_ADMINISTRATOR"]}
I tried different queries but it is not working.
UPDATE public.bo_user
SET json = jsonb_set(json, '{roles}', to_jsonb('SYSTEM_ADMINISTRATOR')::jsonb, true);
UPDATE public.bo_user
SET json = jsonb_set(json, '{roles}', to_jsonb('["SYSTEM_ADMINISTRATOR"]')::jsonb, true);
ERROR: could not determine polymorphic type because input has type unknown
SQL state: 42804
Kindly help me with the query
but at the moment it is to update the value at 0 index
That can be done using an index based "path" for jsonb_set()
update bo_user
set "json" = jsonb_set("json", '{roles,0}'::text[], '"SYSTEM_ADMINISTRATOR"')
where "json" #>> '{roles,0}' = 'Admin'
The "path" '{roles,0}' references the first element in the array and that is replaced with the constant "SYSTEM_ADMINISTRATOR"' Note the double quotes inside the SQL string literal which are required for a valid JSON string
The WHERE clause ensures that you don't accidentally change the wrong value.
So this worked.
UPDATE public.bo_user
SET json = jsonb_set(json, '{roles}', ('["SYSTEM_ADMINISTRATOR"]')::jsonb, true)
where id = '??';

SQL error when using format() function with pyodbc in Django

I want to execute a command using pyodbc in my Django app. When I do simple update with one column it works great:
cursor.execute("UPDATE dbo.Table SET attr = 1 WHERE id = {}".format(id))
However when I try to use a string as a column value it throws error:
cursor.execute("UPDATE dbo.Table SET attr = 1, user = '{}' WHERE id = {}".format(id, str(request.user.username)))
Here's error message:
('42S22', "[42S22] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid column name 'Admin'. (207) (SQLExecDirectW)")
Suprisingly this method works:
cursor.execute("UPDATE dbo.Table SET attr = 1, user = 'Admin' WHERE id = {}".format(id))
What seems to be the problem? Why is sql mistaking column value for its name?
As mentioned above, you have your arguments backwards, but if you're going to use cursor.execute(), the far more important thing to do is use positional parameters (%s). This will pass the SQL and values separately to the database backend, and protect you from SQL injection:

You've got your format arguments backwards. You're passing id to user, and username to the id WHERE clause.

UPDATE QUERY - Sum up a value from form with value from table

I've just started using microsoft access so I don't really know how to solve this. I would like to use an update query to add a value from a form to a value on a table.
I originally used the SUM expression which gave me an error saying it was an aggregate function.
I also tried to add the two values together (e.g [field1] + [field2]) which as a result gave me a value with both numbers together instead of adding them together.
The following is the SQL I'm using:
UPDATE Votes
SET Votes.NumVotes = [Votes]![NumVotes]+[Forms]![frmVote]![txtnumvotes]
WHERE (((Votes.ActID) = [Forms]![frmVote]![combacts])
AND ((Votes.RoundNum) = [Forms]![frmVote]![combrndnum]))
I want to add a value [txtnumvotes] a form to a field [NumVotes] from the table [Votes].
Could someone please help me?
You can specify the expected data type with parameters:
PARAMETERS

Without the specification, Access has to guess, and that sometimes fails.

PostgreSQL JSON SQL Update Statement

I am testing out how JSON works in PostgreSQL 9.4 and I'm finding it to be really cool so far.
I'm stuck on one part though. I'm hoping it is possible to run a SQL UPDATE statement on JSON data.
What I was trying to see if I could do was have a Nested Set inside JSON data and Update the left and right when I add a comment.
My query is:
UPDATE
comments
SET
comment #>> '{right}' += 2
WHERE
comment #>> '{post_id}' = '{$input['post_id']}'
AND comment#>>'{right}' >= '{$parent->right}'
I do get an error:
Syntax error: 7 ERROR: syntax error at or near "#>>"
LINE 5: comment#>>'{right}' += 2
I've not been able to find a resource that tells me if it's possible to update an item inside the JSON.

Updating JSON Data
If the column in your table contains json data and you want to update this data, you can use the following structure:
UPDATE table_name SET column_name = '{"key" : value}'::jsonb
WHERE column_name::jsonb #> '{“new_key” : new_value}'::jsonb;
Note: Usually #> is used as the "contains" operator.

Multiple parameter values

I have a problem with BIRT when I try to pass multiple values from report parameter.
I'm using BIRT 2.6.2 and eclipse.
I'm trying to put multiple values from cascading parameter group last parameter "JDSuser". The parameter is allowed to have multiple values and I'm using list box.
In order to be able to do that I'm writing my sql query with where-in statement where I replace text with javascript. Otherwise BIRT sql can't get multiple values from report parameter.
My sql query is

I tryed many different quote variations, with this one I get no error messages, but if I choose 1 value, I get no data from database, but if I choose at least 2 values, I get the last chosen value data.
If I uncomment one of those additional quote script lines, then I get syntax error like this:

Also, I should tell you that i'm doing this by looking from working example. Everything is the same, the previous code resulted to the same syntax error, I changed it to this script which does the same.

You should always use the value property of a parameter, i.e.:
var users = params["JDSuser"].value;
It is not necessary to surround "userquery" with quotes because these quotes are already put in the SQL query arround 'sample'. Furthermore there is a mistake because userquery is not yet defined at line:
var userquery = userquery + users.join("', '");
This might introduce a string such "null" in your query. Therefore remove all references to userquery variable, just use this expression at the end:
this.queryText=this.queryText.replaceAll('sample', users.join("','"));
Notice i removed the blank space in the join expression. Finally once it works finely, you probably need to make your report input more robust by testing if the value is null:
