Dsplaying unicode in a Form - vba

After much trial and error ,and with assistance from the community, the ability to use Unicode in a form has not been very successful. So the question is. Is there a method to have the ability to use Unicode within a form ? primarily in textbox control were a currency symbol like the Peso symbol(₱) will appear in a textbox. there are various ways to have it on a worksheet but in a form is an allusive task.

Says who? :)
Private Sub UserForm_Initialize()
TextBox1.Text = ChrW(8369)
End Sub
And welcome to stackoverflow :)

Among other methods, you could:
copy & paste Unicode into a textbox, or,
or use ChrW to use a specific character like this:
UserForm1.TextBox1 = ChrW(8369) 'puts a ₱ in the text box.
Note that in most cases the VBA Editor (VBE) won't display Unicode (so copy/pasting the above code into your VBE will replace the ₱ with a ?).
By the way CodePoints is a handy site for finding/identifying unicode symbols. Type whatever you're looking for in the search bar, or copy & paste from a website to find out more.
Also, note that all symbols that appear on your system may or or may not render properly on others.

VBA Macro for MS Word to Ignore Spelling Errors in Selected Block of Text

VBA Noob here. I take my python programming notes in a word document since I can import images into it and align/format text quickly. Any code pasted into this document comes up as a spelling error. I'm trying to find a way to ignore spelling errors within a selected text area so I don't have to deal with ignoring each spelling error line of code individually. I don't want to turn off spell check in the document.
Ideally, I'd able to write a macro that read:
Selection.ShowSpellingErrors = True
but ShowSpellingErrors() can only be used with ActiveDocument. I was able to a record a macro that ignored spelling errors with:
Selection.LanguageID = wdEnglishUS
Selection.NoProofing = True
However, any new text I type into this also doesn't get proofed, which is something I don't want. I want to be able to write new text and see any errors I make. Thanks for any help!
Not a VBA Macro, but I think this answer may be relevant to your problem anyway.
Try creating a style for code which does not include spell check. Anything with this style does not get spell checked, while the rest of the document does. Sometimes I find the code shows the red underline, but if you run spell check it should just disappear without needing to be 'fixed'.
Create a new style, in the modify formatting dialog, go to Format > Language:
Tick the 'Do not check spelling or grammar' checkbox:
Highlight your code and use the new style. Any text not in this style will still be spellchecked:

MS Word, how to change formatting of entire paragraphs automatically in whole document?

I have a 20-page word document punctuated with descriptive notes throughout, like this:
3 Input Data Requirements
Some requirement text.
NOTE: This is a descriptive note about the requirement, which is the paragraph that I would like to use find-and-replace or a VBA script to select automatically and change the formatting to italicized. The notes invariably end in a carriage-return: ¶.
If it was just a text document, not MS-Word, I would just use a regex in a code editor like sublime to wrap it with <I>...</I> or something along those lines.
Preferably, is there a way to do this in Word's "advanced" find-and-replace feature? Or if not, what's the best way to do it in VBA?
I've tried using a search string like this in find-and-replace: NOTE: *[a-z0-9,. A-Z)(-]{1,255}^l but the line-break part doesn't seem to work, and the 255 char max isn't enough for many of the paragraphs.
EDIT: Another slightly important detail: The doc is automatically generated from another piece of software as a .RTF, which I promptly converted to .docx.
Attempt #2: Use Notepad++ to find and replace using regex. Remove quotes.
Find: "( NOTE: .*?)\r"
Replace with: " \i \1 \i0 \r "
//OLD
Sure is. No VBA or fancy tricks needed.
CTRL + H to bring up the replace dialog.
Click "More".
Select "Font" in the drop down menu called "Format".
Click italics.
Enter find and replace text as the same thing. Make sure you set this up right so that you don't accidentally replace substrings (e.g. goal to replace all " test " with " nice ", testing -> niceing).
Should work. If you need to alter entire paragraphs, consistently, then you probably should have used the styles on those paragraphs to begin with. That way, you can change all of them at once by updating the style itself.
You can use Advance Find, yes. Find Next and then Replace makes the selection Italic.

How do I return all the formatting from a cell in Excel using VBA?

How can I use VBA to return all of the formatting information about a cell in Excel. For example:
I need to know which text is purple, which is green, and which is struck through. Range("B2").Value only returns the plain text. I need the formatting as well.
your best bet is probably to use the Intellisense to explore all of the values that are available to you. You can finish off the code snippet below with things like .Color, .Strikethrough, .Bold, etc, and have them print to the immediate window. (Ctrl+G displays the immediate window if you don't currently have it displayed)
Sub test()
debug.Print Range("B1").Font 'finish this line with any of the IntelliSense options to learn things about the text
End Sub
You can also take a look at the properties listed on the MDSN site for the font object

VBA: How to Reference Large Unicode Characters like Paperclip?

I know that similar question has been asked many times before but all I found was about characters up to 2-byte long. I need:
MyString = "📎"
The PAPERCLIP is (U+1F4CE) (http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/1f4ce/index.htm) and the
ChrW(128206) 'throws an error
HOW to reference the unicode chars longer than 2 bytes?
This is a job that your text editor ought to take care of. My memory of the VBA editor is hazy, I don't recollect any way to force the text encoding of the source code file and trying it quickly with the VBA editor in Excel 2013 looks very unpromising. It turns the utf-16 surrogate pair into two question marks.
Switching to another editor could work, Notepad works fine with the Encoding setting in the Save As dialog forced to "Unicode" for example. But that is hardship, with high odds that the string gets mangled again when you continue editing with the VBA editor. The workaround is to specify the surrogate pair explicitly. Try:
MyString = ChrW(&HD83D) & ChrW(&HDCCE)
Google "utf16 surrogate pair calculator" if you need to do this more than once.

Word VBA - Load part of doc into variable, and run .indexOf to search

Okay, I am a Javascript programmer and VBA is driving me insane - I know nothing about it and it is like pulling teeth to find simple documentation on the simplest thing.
I'm literally trying to run a little script to auto-format a document, partly based in content.
I want to grab the third line of document, or first 100 characters, I really don't care, and run the equivalent of String().indexOf('foobar') on it, to check if that part of the document contains a string.
I cannot for the life of me find how to:
a. Load text selection into a variable.
b. Run a sane semblance to indexOf.
Can someone please help? And maybe point me to a sane VBA documentation that is not Micrsoft?
a. Load text selection into a variable.
Identify a range (Word.Range) you want and get the Text property of that range.
For instance,
dim s as string
s = ThisDocument.Paragraphs(3).Range.Text
b. Run a sane semblance to indexOf.
Is InStr no good?
msgbox InStr(s, "foobar")
