I setup Spring boot project with Java 8 on IntelliJ latest version (2018.2). I was able to do download Spring documentation using Maven->Download Sources and Documentation. But Java docs are not available in my project when I do CTRL+Click, all I see is the source code of the class. When docs loaded properly, we should be able to see documentation on top of method definition. I checked Project Structure -> SDK -> Documentation paths and it has valid URL to Oracle docs. When I clicked on any class, all I see is source code for the class but documentation is missing. I tried to include docs from the Oracle website manually, it did not work either. I am on Ubuntu 18.04 operating system.
The docs URL setting has nothing to do with the code you see when you navigate to a class from the Java API. Rather, you can place your cursor in a class or method name and press Ctrl+Q to view the documentation in a popup window.
I figured out the issue. In my Ubuntu machine, I installed open-jdk8 and added as SDK in IntelliJ. But OpenJDK did not download sources along with JDK. I tried to download the sources manually, but I got 404 on OpenJDK sources website. So, uninstalled OpenJDK and installed Oracle JDK. Everything works now. Thanks everyone for the help
What worked for me on Fedora 31
download zip from page https://jdk.java.net/java-se-ri/11
(for Java 11, for Java 13, replace with "/13" etc.)
or direct link for Java 11:
https://download.java.net/openjdk/jdk11/ri/openjdk-11+28_src.zip
save in a custom location, e.g. ~/java/sources
open IntelliJ Idea's
Project Structure -> SDKs -> Sourcepath
point point to the zip
e.g. ~/java/sources/openjdk-11+28_src.zip
now Ctrl+Q opens real javadoc in the editor

I am using same version of IntelliJ IDEA (2016.3.5) on Windows and Linux. The problem is that on Linux IntelliJ IDEA doesn't show java documentation after clicking "Ctrl" + left mouse button , but it shows decompiled .class file. It's not big problem but it's annoying. What may be wrong? I tried to restore default settings but it didn't help.
You're not showing docs, you're drilling down into the implementation of a library method. You haven't attached the sources for the library, so the ide has no choice but to decompile the code in order to let you see the method you're trying to reach. If you're using maven you can download the sources and then when you drill down you'll see real code. Restoring default settings won't help, because this is how its meant to work.
Further; when IntelliJ shows documentation (ctrl-q on my machine) it tries to build the javadocs directly from the source, not from the published javadocs which it ignores. This is another reason to download the sources along with your libs.
BTW: When you 'release' your own libs to your corporate repo you should be building and releasing sources too, so that the users of your libs get the ability to drill down into the implementation, and so that they get access to your api's javadocs.
I am running JDK 1.8.0_66 JVisualVM utility and want to use MBeans browser to Monitor my Coherence applications.
According to the Oracle tutorial I have to install the MBeans plugin first. So I went to Tools-Plugins-Available Plugins and there were no any available plugins. I checked my JDK installation for *.nbm files and found nothing.
What do I need to do to install MBeans plugin for JVisualVM? Thank you in advance.
When accessing https://visualvm.java.net I get redirected to http://www.oracle.com/splash/java.net/maintenance/index.html which states that the page has been closed.
Thus I think you have to download and install the plugins manually.
Go to https://visualvm.github.io/pluginscenters.html
Choose the link to "Java VisualVM" according to your JDK version
Download the tool manually
Select "Tools" -> "Plugins" -> "Downloaded" tab to install the downloaded file
Worked for me.
It appears the visualvm site has moved to github.io, so the links are broken. I just updated mine to the correct one on found on
https://visualvm.github.io/pluginscenters.html
In VisualVM go to Tools -> Plugins -> Settings, Edit Java VisualVM Plugins Center, and change the URL to the correct URL for your VisualVM, ex:
https://visualvm.github.io/archive/uc/8u40/updates.xml.gz
After this I was able to update & install plugins using the UI again.
You need to be connected to internet and you should have access to https://visualvm.java.net
I'm using IntelliJ IDEA to build a non-java project, it is just a PHP + Javascript project, everything is working just fine but when I try to Inspect all the code in the project (Analyze -> Inspect Code) I get an error:
The JDK is not configured properly for this project. Inspection cannot proceed.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to configure an SDK even though the project is not java?
Note: The automatic code inspection for working files opened in the editor is working fine, the only problem is when I try to inspec all the code in the project.
Note 2: I cannot use PHPStorm neither Webstorm.
Thanks.
In my case, I didn't wanted to delete the module since I have a bunch of stuff configured (data sources, dictionaries, http requests) and a lot of code in the shelf (which I believe it's stored along the project/module). I found that you can skip the "delete your module" part and instead just update the module config:
Find the $module.iml file (in my case it's inside the .idea directory) and at the top there's was a line:
<module type="JAVA_MODULE" version="4">
which I changed to:
<module type="WEB_MODULE" version="4">
The issue was fixed and I haven't seen any side-effects but, just in case, you might want to backup the .idea directory.
I raised this over at https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-188017 - after some back and forth, the Jetbrains employee helped me figure out that I had a Java module in there.
If you are not using Java, please crate a module of a Static Web type. Now you have a module of a Java type, that is why the error is reported, so such behaviour is expected.
Delete your Java module.
Once you enter in the menu in the screenshot below, find the Static Web type and create your module like that.
Seems like adding a SDK the code analyzer works just fine, even though the project has no single java module.
Maybe it is a bug, so I will report it.
My project's .idea/<project>.iml file had an entry:
<orderEntry type="inheritedJdk" />
I quit Idea, removed the line above from the iml file, restarted Idea and the next Inspection ran without any issues.
I recently ran into this issue with my purely Python project.
After much frustation, I bumped into a rather bizarre solution:
When IntelliJ complained that JDK is not configured, in the following dialog box, I just selected JDK8 (instead of Python 3.7.2 path) and viola! its gone.
My environment was
IntelliJ IDEA 2018.3.4 (Community Edition)
Build #IC-183.5429.30, built on January 29, 2019
JRE: 1.8.0_152-release-1343-b26 x86_64
JVM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM by JetBrains s.r.o
macOS 10.14.2
I work on a Java based Play! project for severals months now and I'd like to import it completely in IntelliJ, meaning being able to run, compile, test and debug from IntelliJ, without the need to use the command line.
According to this post from Jetbrain, it seems to be possible, if I quote the article it says clearly : "Now you don’t need to switch between IntelliJ IDEA and Play console anymore. Everything is available right from your favorite IDE.", but I can't figure out a way to achieve this for now, even if I follow the tutorial provided by Jetbrains.
Here are the steps I've been throught :
Open my fav IDE IntelliJ ;)
Go to the project list window.
Import project
Import from external model and choose SBT as suggested in Jetbrains tutorial.
option "Use auto import" checked, option "create directories for empty content roots automatically" checked. Project SDK Java 1.7
Global sbt settings : JVM From project JDK.
Finish
By now, if I try to make the project and launch it from IntelliJ, I'll get scala compiling errors related to routes object. Thanks to this post, we can understand that this happens because scala routes are located to specific folders that needs to be included in IntelliJ sources settings for this project. So next step was :
File -> Project Structure -> Modules
Add target/scala-2.10/classes:target/scala-2.10/resources_managed:target/scala-2.10/src_managed as sources folders.
But my problem remains the same, routes object being unrecognized.
Notes : I have no scala facets in my project structure configuration nor can add one.
IntelliJ provides integrated support for the Play Framework for Scala and Java. Support is currently only available in IntelliJ Ultimate Edition (see the Frameworks and Technology section).
Assuming Ultimate Edition, the setup for Play is incredibly easy. Simply create a new project by importing build.sbt, then choose Add Framework Support and choose Play 2.
Once complete, you can start and stop Play using the Play 2 Run/Debug configuration. No command line necessary.
Here is a more in depth look at IntelliJ's Play project configuration.
You could try the command play idea if you are using play or activator idea if you are using activator. That will do the magic.
I'm looking for a current MyBatis plugin for IntelliJ Idea 14. I previously used one hosted by Seventh7 but that is no longer listed (and its git is a 404). The main thing I'm looking for is decent linking between my classes that extend SqlSessionDaoSupport (my DAO classes) and their matching xml files (not using annotation driven).
Any suggestions?
As far as I know the latest free version was v2.34 and it was applied to IDEA v141.177 till v141.179 (as described in file plugin.xml inside jar). That's why this plugin is no listed in IDEA. After this author released paid version and closes free access to the repo
But there is a free fork here:
https://github.com/phoenix/intellij-mybatis-plugin (I love github and open source :) )
Short instruction how to install it:
Download intellij-mybatis-plugin.jar from repo above or use direct link
In IDEA: File>Settings>Plugins, press button "Install plugin from disk" and select downloaded jar.
Restart IDEA
Note: For me navigation to and from xml files does not work until I disabled another iBatis plugin
In Intellij, Go to Settings-->Plugin-->Browse repositories
Search for mybatis plugin.
Install it and restart.
there is a plugin named MyBatisCodeHelperPro, you can search it in repositories.
or download via https://github.com/gejun123456/MyBatisCodeHelper-Pro/blob/master/README_EN.md
