I am trying to write some tests for a component i have written. It is a date/time component where by when you set a date from a calender, it sets the date to its local state, and then moves to a time selection component.
While this all works perfectly as a component, i cant seem to get th tests to pass. Currently having a problem with setting state in a jest test.

however, whenever i run the test, iget the following error;
ShallowWrapper::setState() can only be called on class components
Your class is wrapped by injectIntl. This is the direct cause of the error you're encountering, as the internals of injectIntl are not a class. You will want to test an instance of your DateTimePicker class that is not wrapped by this Higher-Order component. You can do this by calling .dive() on the Enzyme wrapper.

Here is a very simple screen which renders a calculated result list. Since I need to calculation to be called only once so I put it inside the useEffect hook.

As you can see I have called the doCalculation() to get the result inside useEffect hook. My question is how can I render the result in the return part? Since the result is calculated inside the hook, it is not accessible in the renderer.
P.S. Moving the const result = doCalculation() outside the useEffect hook is not an option since I need the calculation to be called only once.
Below is an example. According to the above comments it looks like you want it to be called once on component mount. All you really need to do is add a useState

useState is a hook used to store variable state. When calling setCalculatedData inside the useEffect with empty dependency array it will act similar to a componentDidMount() and run only on first mount. If you add variables to the dependency array it will re-run every-time one of those dep. change.
You can change the data inside the calculatedData at anytime by calling setCalculatedData with input data to change to.
Make use of useState to save the calculation result and then use the variable inside return. See https://reactjs.org/docs/hooks-state.html.

You could use moment to format your time and then display it ,

Also, you should move your information call inside a componentDidMount
I'm trying to add a filter to my app, but for some reason selectedValue in the <Picker> component doesn't stick with the option I select. I can see the filter text changing from "all" to "lobby" in the top left, however as soon as the player list fully renders, it changes back to "all." and playerListFilterType prop is set to undefined. I stepped through the code in a debugger, and it stays "lobby" until the list re-renders. The action itself works, so the list is showing accurate results.
