Running Fedora, I installed MonoDevelop via flatpak as detailed on their website. I now found out that MD was running with Mono 5.4.1. According to flatpak update, no updates are available for MD. Since I noticed some errors while building projects, I updated Mono to the latest version 5.10 by installing the project's reposity as explained on Mono's website.
As expected, mono --version now outputs Mono JIT compiler version 5.10.1.20.
However, Mono Develop is still using Mono 5.4 according to the "About" page. I wanted to change the runtime by hand (maybe flatpak packs its own runtime, I thought), but trying to add the current mono runtime via Edit -> Preferences... -> Projects -> .NET Runtimes in MD fails, as no mono can be found in /usr/bin, though that's exactly where which mono describes it installed.
So now I have two questions:
How can I make MonoDevelop use the new Mono version?
Where is this Mono 5.4 located MD claims to be using?
MonoDevelop flatpak deployment has some issues that are not easy to fix, which require manpower that it seems the team doesn't have at the moment. That's why they have switched, in the meantime, to old-school packaging and you can install MonoDevelop again via DEB/RPM instead of flatpak.

In Netbeans 12.2 on Ubuntu 18.04 (using that snap install), for my C++ plugin I have that first image. When I try to create a new project I get that second image. That is some kind of a lightweight version that does not do your makefiles for you. If I try to open an existing C++ project it just never IDs any project file or folder as the right one. And notice that this version does not include a "Create from source code".
Does anyone know how I can install the "real" c++ plugin? I've looked in a lot of tutorials but they all say it should be there under Available Plugins, but it is not there.
This comes very late but it seems that Netbeans 12 lacks some components for this.
Therefore you must enable Netbeans 8.2 Plugin Portal from Plugins Settings.
Then deactivate the C/C++ and then force updates from Updates -> Check for Updates. Restart IDE and install 8.2 C/C++ plugin.
Note: I have lead into this problem now because unpack2000 is no more present.
The validation of downloaded plugins cannot be completed, cause: NBM ../.netbeans/12.4/update/download/org-netbeans-modules-cnd-kit.nbm needs unpack200 to process following entries:

This can be resolved by installing jre-11 (if it is not present already. I have it on Opensuse Thubleweed amogst with jre-16).
So then you just start netbeans from terminal with:
$ netbeans --jdkhome "/usr/lib64/jvm/jre-11"
...and then install blugin, and when it is ready close netbeans and start it normally again.
Just wanted to report that the answer from Devspain also works with Netbeans 14, in Ubuntu 22.04.
i'm developer of AudioCuesheetEditor, an application for editing audio cuesheets. The new Version should be able to play back sound, so I would like to use gstreamer as backend. I investigated a bit in gstreamer and found out, that I need to use version 1.x with gstreamer-sharp 0.99.x binding. No problem, downloaded gstreamer-sharp 0.99.0, opened the solution with monodevelop (on linux) or xamarin (on windows) and tried to build the dll, but that didn't work. I get the error "namespace Gst.GLib" not found.
I'm developing with xamarin/monodevelop and need to have a portable app (working with mono/.net).
Can anyone help me, get gstreamer-sharp build?

gstreamer-sharp is currently not supported on Windows, however you can compile the managed parts on linux and compile the glue on Windows using Visual Studio:
Install gtk-sharp 3.0 from https://github.com/mono/gtk-sharp
Compile gstreamer-sharp using ./autogen.sh && make
Take the compiled glib-sharp and gstreamer-sharp binary and all .c files from sources/glue/
Download and install gstreamer binaries from http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/data/pkg/windows/1.2.2/ and install the development and binary packages for the architecture you want to compile for. You can use gstreamer 1.0 or 1.2.
Use the Visual Studio template from the gstreamer-devel package and change the project type to library. Add the c files taken from the sources/glue folder and compile the glue library. The library should be called libgstreamersharpglue-1.0.0.dll
Put the managed parts together with the native symbols.

Compiling the glue is now easier on Windows! Someone set up a project which can compile the glue using Visual Studio on Windows. I have a fork which has binaries at https://github.com/xDarkice/libgstreamersharpglue
gstreamer-sharp uses autotools for its build system, you cannot build it with an IDE. Please do the autotools dance:
./autogen.sh --prefix=/the/prefix/where/you/want/to/install
make
sudo make install
I'm trying to build an embedded simple web browser for an embedded device and I've decided to use WebKit / WebKitGTK+. However, our device uses a Linux environment somewhat based on CentOS 5.8. I haven't been able to find any RPMS or mention of support for WebKit / WebKitGTK+ for CentOS 5.8 while doing several web searches.
Does anybody know if it's possible to build an older version of WebKitGTK+ such as 1.2.6-2.el6_0 which works well on CentOS 6.3? Are any RPMS available for CentOS 5.8?
The goal here is to be able to run a relatively current, at least 1.2.6 version of WebKitGTk on CentOS 5.8
Note: I was able to sort everything out. Just took a long time compiling all of the dependencies in the correct order with the correct options. I was able to get WebKitGTK 1.6.0 running on Centos 5.8.
You shouldn't have any problems building an old version of webkit if you can install the older versions of libraries that it requires.
If you have older or newer versions of GTK+ etc installed than the old version of webkit requires it may need quite a bit of porting to compile.
I'm not aware of any RPMs that meet your requirements
Depending on the compilation options you should be able to compile the dependencies in an isolated directory. With each library you typically use the --prefix option to specify the destination. Then when compiling something that depends on that library, you typically have an option to specify where to look for that library - something like --with-libraryname=/path/to/library. You want to check ./configure --help of each thing you're compiling to get the correct options.
It'll be quite a bit of work, but you should be able to compile everything you need into an isolated directory without replacing anything on the system. I would highly recommend you avoid doing this in root to ensure you have the right options.

Can I safely choose Simple.Data for a new project using Mono today?

There will be a new official Mono build soon as part of the RC process. For now you should be able to clone the GitHub repo (http://github.com/markrendle/Simple.Data) and build the latest version.
Mono support is a requirement of the project, and will continue in all future versions.
Everything that works on Windows and MS.NET should work on Mono on OSX and Linux. If you find that something does not work, that is a bug and should be reported at http://github.com/markrendle/Simple.Data/Issues .
I have not personally got any projects using Simple.Data on Mono, so I can't offer a real testimony, but there are ~700 tests which all pass using Mono 2.10 on Mac OSX against a SQL Server DB.
After an upgrade to the new Haskell Platform, my existing wxHaskell programs are broken.
They all seem to now require wxWidgets 2.9, for which I can't find any binary versions.
wxPack has 2.8, and beyond that one has to get a compiler and build it locally from what I see.
There are tutorials on this from various sources, each a few pages long, with various advice on setup, changing configurations, etc. Install wxConfig, install minGW compilers, setup configurations, rebuild, etc.
Is there any source of a simple binary install? I'd hope for some simple apt-get or cabal like tool, Haskell library tools (on Windows?) seem less integrated than others that I'm familiar with.
(Update) I did install and compile wxWidgets locally, and still cannot get the wxHaskell components to install. I'm sure that all of this just requires some fairly simple details, but again after some time already, hope not to have to spend a lot more time on this, and wish it was more automated!

If you are using windows Just go to download page for Codelite and download codelite with wxWidgets. Install it, copy the installed wxWidgets directory wherever it is needed!
