Text editors and IDE cannot write properly ɑ̃ ɛ̃ ɑ̃ ɔ̃ œ̃ character - intellij-idea

I tried many IDE: Sublime Text, PhpStorm, Notepad++
When I paste the ɑ̃ character I got a^ (2 chars)
Same happens with other chars such as ɛ̃ ɑ̃ ɔ̃ œ̃
I tried to change UTF-8, UTF18, ISO etc... All IDE did change the ɑ̃ into 2 chars !
Any idea ?

In my case it works fine:
(Indeed, it's treated as two characters, like you can delete only the first/second "part" by backspace, but it's displaying correctly)
I think it's the problem of font. You may try my fallback font Inziu Iosevka which may probably support those characters better.
Other characters test:
Fine.
My complete font setting (IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate):
Hope it help.

How to write an XPath to select text with a quote & comma character?

How can I select a XPath that contains a text with both quote & comma character?
I have to find an element if the text contains =Yes, It's OK
My XPath does not save in ranorex tool even though if i put the text inside the double quotes like below
//span[text()="Yes, It's OK"]
So how can I save this xpath that uses "".in Ranorex
your use of double-quotes is correct. if
//span[text()="Yes, It's OK"]
doesn't match, it might be because the xpath engine has a lowercase bug (i have encountered PHP+DOMXPath+libxml2 systems where it would only match lowercase text even for text with uppercase characters, never quite figured out the problem there), or it might be because the text has hidden whitespace you're not aware of, maybe it actually has a hard-to-spot whitespace at the start or the end? anyway maybe contains() will work:
//span[contains(text(),"Yes, It's OK"]
or.. if it has the lowercase-issue i have encountered in the wild once before, maybe this will work:
//span[contains(text(),"yes, it's ok"]
(that really shouldn't be required, but i have been in that situation once before, and that was years ago, and that was... probably php5)

Notepad++ special string character highlighting

In notepad++ if I have the code
printf("Hello, World\n");
The whole string '"Hello, World\n"' is one color but in editors like vim '\n' is a different color signifying it's a special character. Is there to get this behavior in notepad++? It's an especially nice feature of vim to highlight some of the stranger printf syntax like '% 5.3s' or '%%'
If you don't mind editing some xml, I'm sure you could make the appropriate settings in stylers.xml where all syntax highlighting settings for Notepad++ are saved. It is usually located in %APPDATA%\Notepad++\
Here is the wiki:

Otherwise, you could try to find a theme online and import it with settings->import->import theme

IE 10 not rendering Japanese correctly

I recently discovered an issue with IE10. We have a web page that displays English text beside a translation in Japanese. Some of the Japanese characters display as squares. In the view source page all characters are correctly rendered. The database also has the characters correctly rendered. The unusual part is that when I block the characters with the cursor they convert to the correct characters.
IE10 I believe has a bug.
Anyone having similar issue or know of a fix? Checked all language settings, regional settings, browser font settings and many other tests. Nothing corrects this issue.
This issue was related to a dual byte character which some fonts and windows applications will support.
Some older fonts may use a two hex character representation to present a single character. Some fonts support this and some do not.
In this case the characters at issue were the following…..
ジ
シ and ゙
The latter two which I think are special characters that combined are intended to represent ジ.
The Unicode Standard from the Unicode ISO web site table defines them like so…..
Decimal Character HEX Name
12472 ジ 30B8 KATAKANA LETTER ZI
12471 シ 30B7 KATAKANA LETTER SI
12441 っ゙ 3099 COMBINING KATAKANA-HIRAGANA VOICED SOUND MARK (combined with small tu (っ))
So some fonts use 12471 + 12441 to make 12472. This is what I found. But the actual string has 12471 + 12441 and not 12472 or the hex: 0x30B7, 0x3099 and not 0x30B8.
Any time a font being used does not support this binding, a box is displayed. The challenge is that it may be as simple as someone creating a birthday card using a non-compliant UTF8 font that could cause a PC to not allow the character to display correctly.

vb.net font chr()

i have some truetype fonts and a programm takes these fonts so that a user can select a font he like to put some symbols around. The programm save these information (which font name und character code) in a file. (I dont have the source of this programm)
Now i have to reed these file into another programm (vb.net) and get the character from the character code. And here comes the problem.
If i'll try chr(144) i'll get an empty char back ... but in the font which the user has selected befor, the character, which display a symbol, exists with the character ç.
Have i to load the font on runtime or what i have to?
I have tried already CharW(144) but with the same result: I'll get an empty char but i need to get the ç
Kind regards
Nico
According to the Extended Latin-1 code chart, ç is U+00E8 (232 in decimal) so I suggest you try ChrW(232).
The value returned by Chr depends on the current thread's default encoding (and I seem to remember it's possible to provoke some odd results) - I would try to avoid it if possible. If you know the encoding you need to use, then use it explicitly with Encoding.GetString etc. Otherwise, stick to Unicode values wherever possible.

Inserting special character in Redmine wiki page

I'm using Redmine and I'm trying to insert the special character | inside a table in a Redmine wiki page. I don't want this character to be parsed as a column separator.
I've achieved this by doing a <code>|</code> around this character, but I don't want to use the code tag, since this character will gain code attributes, namely the courier new font.
Is there a tag for displaying plain text and avoid the parsing from the Redmine wiki engine?
I'm reading the redmine wiki formatting documentation but it is very poor and points me to textile formatting which doesn't seem to include this special case.
I could not get the exclimation point to work, but this works for me.
<notextile>|</notextile>
The only way I found out to overcome this problem is to insert the HTML code for the character I want to isolate. For instance, instead of putting an underscore and make the wiki think I'm starting an italic word, I have to put the HTML code for it:
_
Example:
this is a _test - _text comment here_
Without the underscore code (_) redmine wiki engine will think that italic starts at test and this is the wrong result:
this is a test - text comment here
So, putting the ASCII code for the underscore corrects this problem. Unfortunately, this parsing is not very clever (yet I hope).
