Styling NativeBase Inputs - react-native

I want to change the border size of an input, the color, etc. For some reason when I stack 2 inputs on top of each other, and I add marginTop to the input underneath, or attempt to resize the inputs, and then center them in the page, the borders on either the left or the bottom disappear.
<View style={styles.formAlign}>
<Item regular style={styles.email}>
<Input placeholder='Email' />
</Item>
<Item regular style={styles.password}>
<Input placeholder='Password' />
</Item>
</View>
email:{
borderWidth:4,
color:'red'
},
password:{
},
formAlign:{
justifyContent:'center',
alignItems:'center'
},

tried your code, modified a bit
import React, { Component } from 'react';
import { StyleSheet, View } from 'react-native'
import { Item, Input } from 'native-base';
export default class App extends Component {
render() {
return (
<View style={styles.formAlign}>
<Item style={styles.email}>
<Input placeholder='Email' style={styles.input} />
</Item>
<Item style={styles.password}>
<Input placeholder='Password' style={styles.input} />
</Item>
</View>
);
}
}
const styles = StyleSheet.create({
email: {
width: 300,
},
password: {
width: 300,
marginTop: 15,
},
formAlign: {
flex: 1,
justifyContent: 'center',
alignItems: 'center',
},
input: {
borderWidth: 1,
borderColor: 'blue'
}
});
Got this result

<Input
size="lg"
colorScheme="gray"
placeholder="Search"
variant="filled"
py="2"
px="2"
fontFamily="body"
style={styles.input}
borderRadius="20"
_focus={{
backgroundColor: "gray.200",
borderColor: "none",
}}
InputLeftElement={
<Icon
ml="2"
size="5"
color="gray.400"
as={<Ionicons name="ios-search" />}
/>
}
/>
In case you want to change when focused, I think this might help. Add this as an input attribute.

import React, { Component } from 'react';
import { Input, Button, Item, Text, Icon } from 'native-base';
export default class App extends Component{
render(){
return(
<Item rounded style={styles.itemStyle}>
<Icon active style={styles.iconstyle} name='navigate' />
<Input keyboardType="default"
getRef={(input) => this.nameInput = input}
returnKeyType='next'
placeholder="Enter Trip Name"
placeholderTextColor="#FFFFFF"
style={{ color: '#ffffff' }}
onSubmitEditing={() => this._focusInput('dayInput')}
value={this.state.tripName}
defaultValue={this.state.tripName}
onChangeText={tripName => this.setState({ tripName })} />
</Item>
)
}
}

React Native Elements Checkbox SetState is not a function

Have implemented a screen that uses checkboxes.
Following the example from React Native Checkbox
On clicking a checkbox, receive the following error:
TypeError: _this.setState is not a function. (In '_this.setState({
checked: !_this.state.checked
})', '_this.setState' is undefined)
Below is my code:
import * as React from 'react';
import {Dimensions, StyleSheet, View} from 'react-native';
import {Button, Card, CheckBox} from 'react-native-elements';
function MyScreen({navigation}) {
return (
<View style={styles.view}>
<View style={styles.panel}>
<Card containerStyle={styles.card} title="My Checkboxes">
<CheckBox
title="My Checkbox"
checked={this.state.checked}
onPress={() => this.setState({checked: !this.state.checked})}
/>
</Card>
<Button
style={styles.button}
title="Done"
onPress={() => navigation.navigate('Home')}
/>
</View>
</View>
);
}
const styles = StyleSheet.create({
view: {
flex: 1,
justifyContent: 'center',
alignItems: 'center',
},
panel: {
width: Dimensions.get('window').width,
justifyContent: 'center',
alignItems: 'center',
position: 'absolute',
top: 0,
},
button: {
margin: 5,
width: 150,
height: 50,
},
card: {
width: Dimensions.get('window').width,
marginBottom: 20,
},
});
export default MyScreen;
I've tried searching here, and pretty much everywhere, and can't seem to find a solution.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
You are using a functional component.
Change it to a class component or use hooks inside this functional component.
Change your code as following
class component
import React, { Component } from 'react'
import {Dimensions, StyleSheet, View} from 'react-native';
import {Button, Card, CheckBox} from 'react-native-elements';
export default class App extends Component {
state={ checked: false };
render() {
return (
<View style={styles.view}>
<View style={styles.panel}>
<Card containerStyle={styles.card} title="My Checkboxes">
<CheckBox
title="My Checkbox"
checked={this.state.checked}
onPress={() => this.setState({checked: !this.state.checked})}
/>
</Card>
<Button
style={styles.button}
title="Done"
onPress={() => navigation.navigate('Home')}
/>
</View>
</View>
)
}
}
or functional component
import React, {useState} from 'react';
import {Dimensions, StyleSheet, View} from 'react-native';
import {Button, Card, CheckBox} from 'react-native-elements';
function MyScreen({navigation}) {
const [checked, toggleChecked] = useState(false);
return (
<View style={styles.view}>
<View style={styles.panel}>
<Card containerStyle={styles.card} title="My Checkboxes">
<CheckBox
title="My Checkbox"
checked={checked}
onPress={() => toggleChecked(!checked)}
/>
</Card>
<Button
style={styles.button}
title="Done"
onPress={() => navigation.navigate('Home')}
/>
</View>
</View>
);
}
If you are using your functional component as a child in another component, you can have use props instead.
function MyScreen({navigation, onChecked, checked}) {
return (
<View style={styles.view}>
<View style={styles.panel}>
<Card containerStyle={styles.card} title="My Checkboxes">
<CheckBox
title="My Checkbox"
checked={checked}
onPress={onChecked}
/>
</Card>
<Button
style={styles.button}
title="Done"
onPress={() => navigation.navigate('Home')}
/>
</View>
</View>
);
}
MyScreen.propTypes = {
checked: PropTypes.bool.isRequired,
onChecked: PropTypes.func.isRequired
};
export default MyScreen;
On the parent component the onChecked can look like:
onChecked =()=>{
...
this.setState({checked: !this.state.checked})
}
Also in the parent component, you can use MyScreen as:
<MyScreen
onCheck={this.onChecked}
checked={this.state.checked}
/>

React Native - Picker not showing up even after writing the correct code

I'm new to React Native and learning from a course. Unfortunately, I'm stuck in a problem where my picker doesn't show up. Even after styling my CardSection, it is not working. Here is a the code. Please help
I've tried styling the CardSection but it doesn't seem to be working
import React, { Component } from 'react';
import { Picker, Text } from 'react-native';
import { connect } from 'react-redux';
import { employeeUpdate } from '../actions';
import { Card, CardSection, Input, Button } from './common';
class EmployeeCreate extends Component {
render() {
return (
<Card>
<CardSection>
<Input
label='Name'
placeholder='Jane'
value={this.props.name}
onChangeText={value => this.props.employeeUpdate({ prop: 'name', value })}
/>
</CardSection>
<CardSection>
<Input
label='Phone'
placeholder='555-555-5555'
value={this.props.phone}
onChangeText={value => this.props.employeeUpdate({ prop: 'phone', value })}
/>
</CardSection>
<CardSection style={{ flexDirection: 'column' }}>
<Text style={styles.pickerTextStyle}>Shift</Text>
<Picker
style={{ flex: 1 }}
selectedValue={this.props.shift}
onValueChange={value => this.props.employeeUpdate({ prop: 'shift', value })}
>
<Picker.Item label="Monday" value="Monday" />
<Picker.Item label="Tuesday" value="Tuesday" />
<Picker.Item label="Wednesday" value="Wednesday" />
<Picker.Item label="Thursday" value="Thursday" />
<Picker.Item label="Friday" value="Friday" />
<Picker.Item label="Saturday" value="Saturday" />
<Picker.Item label="Sunday" value="Sunday" />
</Picker>
</CardSection>
<CardSection>
<Button>Create</Button>
</CardSection>
</Card>
);
}
}
const styles = {
pickerTextStyle: {
fontSize: 18,
paddingLeft: 20
}
};
const mapStateToProps = (state) => {
const { name, phone, shift } = state.employeeForm;
return { name, phone, shift };
};
export default connect(mapStateToProps, { employeeUpdate })(EmployeeCreate);
Here is the CardSection
import React from 'react';
import { View } from 'react-native';
const CardSection = (props) => {
return (
<View style={[styles.constainerStyle, props.style]}>
{props.children}
</View>
);
};
const styles = {
constainerStyle: {
bottomBorderWidth: 1,
padding: 5,
backgroundColor: '#FFF',
justifyContent: 'flex-start',
flexDirection: 'row',
borderColor: '#DDD',
position: 'relative'
}
};
export { CardSection };
I expect the CardSection to show up like a Picker
Found the solution. Adding the following styling to the picker resolves it
style={{ alignItems: "center" }}

CardList React Native

I'm new to React and was wondering if anyone could assist me. I'm trying to create a card list. I have done this part however I'm showing an image inside my card which does not render properly. The entire card becomes 1/12 of a row size. If I remove the List part then card renders properly.
Below is my Code:
import React, { Component } from "react";
import { Image } from "react-native";
import {
Container,
Header,
Title,
Content,
Text,
Button,
Icon,
FooterTab,
Left,
Right,
Card,
CardItem,
Thumbnail,
ListItem,
List,
Body
} from "native-base";
import styles from "./styles";
const datas = [
{
route: "Header1",
text: "Only Title",
restImage: require("../../../assets/restaurants/Mc.png")
},
{
route: "Header2",
text: "Icon Buttons",
restImage: require("../../../assets/restaurants/Mc.png")
}
];
const logo = require("../../../assets/logo.png");
//const cardImage = require("../../../assets/Mc.png");
//const cardImage2 = require("../../../assets/NY.png");
class Anatomy extends Component {
render() {
return (
<Container style={styles.container}>
<Header
style={{ backgroundColor: "#FFAB00" }}
androidStatusBarColor="#FF8F00"
iosBarStyle="light-content"
>
<Left>
<Button
transparent
onPress={() => this.props.navigation.navigate("DrawerOpen")}
>
<Icon name="ios-menu" />
</Button>
</Left>
<Body>
<Title>Rests</Title>
</Body>
<Right />
</Header>
<Content padder>
<List
dataArray={datas}
renderRow={data =>
<ListItem>
<Card style={styles.mb}>
<CardItem cardBody>
<Image
style={{
resizeMode: "cover",
width: null,
height: 200,
flex: 1
}}
source={data.restImage}
/>
</CardItem>
<CardItem style={{ paddingVertical: 0 }}>
<Left>
<Button transparent>
<Icon active name="thumbs-up" />
<Text>4923 Likes</Text>
</Button>
</Left>
<Body>
<Button transparent>
<Icon active name="chatbubbles" />
<Text>89 Comments</Text>
</Button>
</Body>
<Right>
<Text
button
onPress={() => this.props.navigation.navigate(data.route)}
>2KM away</Text>
</Right>
</CardItem>
</Card>
</ListItem>
}
/>
</Content>
</Container>
);
}
}
export default Anatomy;
I managed to resolve it. Did some research and just added below style to card.
<Card style={{ flex: 1 }}>
This resolved the rendering problem for me.

add another state like buttonChangedUserID and set that in following method
async changebutton(followid){
this.setState({changeButtons:true, buttonChangedUserID:followid })
....
then use it to get selected user id to change button while rendering it after state change

React Native OnPress issue i have been having

I am new to react native and have been doing this for a week or so. I just finished the tutorials for making an interactive buttons and work on it. But i am stuck on this. The app is really simple right now, just trying to make a form and add some trigger event using onPress on it.
Below is the portion of my code. I am simply lost for words why its not calling SubmitThisForm() on the onPress event.
Can you guys help me on this.
Thanks a lot.
import React, { Component } from 'react';
import {Container, Content, InputGroup,Button, View, Icon, Card,
CardItem, Text, Body} from 'native-base';
import {Input} from './common';
class LoginForm extends Component {
state = {email: '', password: ''};
SubmitThisForm() {
console.log("Can you see this");
}
render () {
return (
<Container>
<Content>
<Card style={styles.FormContainer}>
<CardItem>
<Body>
<InputGroup borderType="regular">
<Icon name="ios-mail-outline" style={{color:'#384850'}}/>
<Input

value = {this.state.email}
onChangeText={email=>this.setState( { email })}
/>
</InputGroup>
<InputGroup borderType="regular">
<Icon name="lock" style={{color:'#384850'}}/>
<Input
secureTextEntry= {true}
placeHolder="password"
value = {this.state.password}
onChangeText={password=>this.setState( { password })}
/>
</InputGroup>
</Body>
</CardItem>
</Card>
<View style={styles.SignIn}>
<Button block warning onPress={ () => {this.SubmitThisForm()}}><Text>Sign In</Text></Button>
</View>
<View style={styles.SignUp}>
<Button block info><Text>Sign Up</Text></Button>
</View>
<View style={styles.SignIn}>
<Button block primary><Text>Forgot Password</Text></Button>
</View>
</Content>
</Container>
);
};
}
const styles = {
ErrorTextStyle: {
fontSize: 20,

},

}
export default LoginForm
The include input component is like this:
import React from 'react';
import {Text, View, TextInput} from 'react-native';
const Input = ({ label,value,onChangeText,placeHolder,secureTextEntry }) => {
const {InputStyle,LabelStyle,ContainerStyle } = styles;
return (
<View style = {ContainerStyle}>
<TextInput
secureTextEntry = {secureTextEntry}
placeholder={placeHolder}
autoCorrect={false}
style = {InputStyle}
value={value}
onChangeText={onChangeText}
/>
</View>
);
};
const styles = {
InputStyle:{
color:'#000',
paddingRight:5,
paddingLeft:5,
fontSize:18,
lineHeight:30,
flex:2,
height:40
},
LabelStyle:{
fontSize:18,
paddingLeft:20,
flex:1,
},
ContainerStyle:{
height:40,
flex:1,
flexDirection:'row',
alignItems:'center'
}
}
export { Input };
You need to either use an Arrow function, or bind() SubmitThisForm to your Component.
You can either declare your method like:
SubmitThisForm = () => {
console.log('Can you see this?')
}
Or, you can bind() your function in the constructor by adding:
constructor() {
super()
this.SubmitThisForm = this.SubmitThisForm.bind(this)
}
If you do not bind this in your custom functions, this will equal undefined. When you use Arrow functions however, this is lexically scoped which means the context of this will be the enclosing context (LoginForm)
