How to access (read/write) advanced file EXIF/metadata in the Dropbox JavaScript API? - dropbox

How to access (read/write) advanced file metadata in the Dropbox JavaScript API?
I'm talking about things like e.g.: MacOS file tags. Or the camera model inside the EXIF data.
Please note that dbx.filesGetMetadata(arg) does not provide very detailed metadata... Almost only dropbox specific metadata actually.
Any ideas?

Kudos to Greg.
The Dropbox API unfortunately doesn't natively return Mac OS file metadata/xattrs, or the full EXIF information for a file. The Dropbox API currently only natively returns a few pieces of basic media information in FilesFileMetadata.media_info, e.g., if you set FilesGetMetadataArg.include_media_info to true when calling filesGetMetadata or filesListFolder/filesListFolderContinue.
To get any other metadata embedded in the file content, you'll need to download the file content and parse it out client-side.

The kind of Dropbox link you're referring to isn't a "direct" link, but rather a "shared" link, where the link itself points to an HTML preview page, where the user can download the file if they want. You can find information on this feature here:
https://help.dropbox.com/files-folders/view-only-access
Dropbox does offer an API you can use for listing, uploading, downloading, and sharing files, among other operations. You can find everything you need to get started with the Dropbox API, including documentation, tutorials, and SDKs here:
https://www.dropbox.com/developers
Dropbox does offer a .NET SDK in particular:
https://github.com/dropbox/dropbox-sdk-dotnet
To create a shared link for a file or folder using the .NET SDK, you would use the CreateSharedLinkWithSettingsAsync method:

Download file directly from dropbox (no sign in)

Is there a way to download file directly from dropbox without logging in. I find this to be a serious limitation. I want to link a few files from website. Can this be done in dropbox?
I realise this can be done with an api (at least in theory) but I have no idea what the link should look like. Cheers.
If you have a Dropbox shared link for a file that can be accessed publicly, you can download from it programmatically.
You can download directly using the link as documented here:
https://www.dropbox.com/help/desktop-web/force-download
Or, you can use the API via the /2/sharing/get_shared_link_file endpoint:

DropBox core API how to get GPS metadata for each image?

I am using Core Api from drop box to upload and download file. The upload and download take place from my device. So the image is stored locally and then uploaded. And when downloaded they store on device and I pull them from their locations.
I am able to access the metaData dropBox provides via the restClient LoadedMetaData method. However that method doesn't provide support for the GPS. In this blog Post from dropBox https://www.dropbox.com/developers/blog/86/new-additional-information-about-photo-and-video-files
it has an update to access this. But it is done using a GET HTTP request. Can I do this from inside xcode? I tried accessing the request directly and it gives an error of "NO AUTH" so I cant grab the JSON file. But we should already be authorized from signing in directly with the api.
Any help would be so appreciated.
I believe that in the Core SDK, you can just call [client loadMetadata:path withParams:#{#"include_media_info": #"true"}];
(Caveat: I haven't tested it myself. Please let me know if it works.)

access user arbitrary folders with chrome localstorage API

I'm developing an app on Google chrome which could be able to read and write files to arbitrary folders on the user’s hard drive, such as their My Pictures or My Documents folder.
I want my app to has its one folder, like "Users/Username/App", so users could be able to access some of the data, created and edited by the app. How can I do this?
I read the book "Using the HTML5 Filesystem API", so I know it's actually not possible with HTML5 Filesystem API alone. Same thing was possible by opera 11, 12. (see: http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/file-i-o-api-for-widgets/). Chorome mediaGalleries API do same things but just for media file but I want to use html, xml and office files
It doesn't sound like you've looked at the list of Chrome App APIs. Have you? Among them is the fileSystem API, which is evolving quickly to include directory access.

Retrieve all image files using Dropbox Core API

I am working on Dropbox Core API with Google App Engine (python). There seems to be some problems with Dropbox-python-sdk on GAE. Therefore, I have choose to use the Core APIs directly.
My app is trying to retrieve all image files from a user's dropbox (with file type permission). But I couldn't find a way to get all files without specifying the root/path (all the APIs stated here requires a specific file path)
Any idea?
EDIT Dropbox actually recommends not automatically recursing via /metadata calls. (See https://www.dropbox.com/developers/core/bestpractices.)
There's no method to get a recursive list of files, so you would need to use /search to find files or /delta with no cursor to get the full list of files.
Could the Chooser be an option here (if you're just trying to let the user pick individual files)?
