I want to upgrade Intellij from 2016.3 to 2017.1. This is a major upgrade, so it is not doable simply by clicking "Upgrade", I have to download a whole new tar.gz. The problem is that I don't want to do a fresh installation, because I have some plugins and configuration I would rather not loose. How can I do it?
Install as you normally do for the new version (unpack into the new empty directory, then run via bin/idea.sh), it will suggest to import the settings from the previous version the first time you start it.
To automate updates you may consider using JetBrains Toolbox App.

I've opened a Python project from IntelliJ Utlimate 2019.2.5 after using Pycharm.
I've the IDEA to a newly created virtualenv project SDK under <root>/.virtualenv directory, however, I cannot run pip install on the requirements using the terminal because virtualenv is not working, and I'm using my global python installation.
Opening the same project back in Pycharm brings it back to life again.
Is there a specific configuration I've missed (though I doubt that because there are only these instructions).
It's not possible at the moment in IntelliJ IDEA.

Is it possible to setup go language pluing for Intellij IDEA 14.0.3 version?
I tried to download the binary plugin (jar) from https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/5047?pr=idea but the version 0.9.15.3 listed here is old and does not recognize GOROOT and GOPATH.
I tried to build the latest plugin using sources from https://github.com/go-lang-plugin-org/go-lang-idea-plugin using Intellij but failed to setup the SDK.
Is there a latest binary version of the go lang plugin available?
Update to IDEA 14.1+ or use the IntelliJ Community.
Original answer:
You can use the free version of IntelliJ Community with the latest version of the plugin and everything should work fine. Also, Android Studio for example is compatible with the plugin as well.
Unfortunately the plugin has some internal dependencies which makes it hard to port back and maintain for multiple IDEA versions. Hope this helps
It might be not the exact answer your are looking for but their is a separate IDE for go developer . it has some unique features you must try GOLAND First month is free.
I also faced up this problem couple days ago. You can download nightly version of go plugin from this link.
You must install this plugin via browse your download folder not repository
I use IntellJ IDEA Ultimate Edition on Windows 7 machine.
I would like to upgrade from version 13.0.3 to 13.1.1 in a way that will keep all my existing settings and plugin setup.
Currently it's installed in JetBrains\IntelliJ IDEA 13.0.2 directory. Installation wizard gives an option to uninstall the existing version (that is not checked by default) and then suggests installing it into 13.1.1 directory.
What is the right way to install it as upgrade, so I do not lose anything?
You will not lose any settings by uninstalling.
The settings is in C:\Users\xxx\.IntelliJIdea13
I added this plug in to my netbeans 7.2 IDE. Then, when I restarted the program and tried to open it again it did not open
as shown in this picture
I tried to restore my Windows system to previous restore point but the problem still exist.
any ideas how to solve this problem
I've tested the repository that they advised you to adding in the your Netbeans install.
But really has reference to many more plugins and features installed,
if you add this repository after upgrade the NetBeansIDE you will see that all base modules will have replaced by the development release and practically you will have another version of netbeans installed.
I advise you to uninstall your current netbeans without deleting your workspace and reinstall your netbeans downloaded directly from the official website.
And also I would advise you in the future should try the unofficial plugin in a test environment. before bringing in your work

Has anyone managed to get the new Infinitest open source version running in IntelliJ IDEA 10?
Latest version of Infinitest works well on IDEA 10. Version 5.1.87 can be found here: http://infinitest.github.com/
The version proposed by the plugins wizard is outdated, do you have to manually decompress infinitest into IDEA's plugins folder. On OSX, the plugins folder can be found by right-clicking on Intellij icon, Show Package Content
Once its decompressed, start Intellij and make sure to add the Infinitest facet to your project/module.
The IDEA plugin repository is now up-to-date.
You can install it from the IDEA Plugins manager
