VUE.JS: Passing Data From Parent To Child Component - vue.js

I have a layout file in which I have some data. Besides that I have three components:
tags
students
actions
I want to declare the data in the layout file, but access it through the three child-components.
How is this done in Vue.js?

One option can be to pass the props to all the child components which is the norm in vue when it comes to passing data to child component, as also explained here.
Given that you want to pass same data to all these components and there can be cases going forward when you want to change this data and get it reflected in parent as well, you can go for a centralised state management, which is explained here in more detail.

Passing data to sub-components in Vue JS. Best practices?

I'm confused about best practices for passing data from parent to child components and modularity strategies.
As I know there are 2 ways:
Fetching data in parent component and send Array/object to the child via props
Send parent_id to the child via props and fetching data within the child component
Let's assume a use case working with a product edit view, having:
A parent component product
A child form component to edit basic product information
A child related_products component where other products can be linked/unlinked.
As per my experience, the first way works smoothly since it's all done in 1 request to the API: fetching a product object in parent component and passing through props the product itself to the form component and the nested objects to the related_products component. In addition, it can be done in beforeRouteEnter guard so the parent and all its children are shown with all the information at once. The cons I see here is that we have to send the correct object structure to the child component to avoid any error, having a strong dependency between components.
On the other hand, by sending the parent_id to every child component through props we release the parent from any logic. In this case, every child component acts as a "black box" and fetch/handles the information. The cons I see here is that we would have to perform 2 API requests for getting the product and the related products. In addition, the beforeRouteEnter is not viable at all, so we get an empty form/table until the data is retrieved.
This is not about how to code it, it's just about what's the best implementation as per your experience.
As far as my experience is concerned, 1-st way is better. Parent component acts as "smart" and you have access to it's life cycle hooks in order to trigger your api-requests, reset timers, e.t.c... I would also suggest to use vuex, as it allows you to make clean interface of communication between your parent component and "outer world", utilizing actions and getters.
With that being said, your "dumb" child component communicates with it's parent through props and emits interface. And because it is "dumb" - it's easier to test it or utilize something like "storybook".

I guess, at the end of the day, you'll need correct object structure anyway, right? It could not be just random...

Best way to use props passing to multiple children componets

I have parent component that contains form component and detail component for created_at and updated_at in editing Product page.
Form is to edit the existing data and detail component will be next to the form.
I didn't have the detail component before so I fetch data from form component and use it in the component however I need some of the data in detail component which is the child of the parent of the form component.
So I moved the fetch axios to parent component and pass the data to both children now.
Is it better to do this way or is it better to send axios request both in form component and detail component?
The form is also used in adding new product.
My opinion is that you should fire requests from most top level possible. This way your children components (building blocks) can work independently from your current context. It's called presentational component and it's role is to output some markup. The container component feeds the data to the presentational component making the data flow go from top to the bottom nicely.
So in short, you did it right! However you should be careful, when your data changes in the edit form, then you probably want to fire the request on parent again, so that the data is updated for the whole app. This kind of flow is highly facilitated by Vuex. It serves as single source of truth (data) that your whole application can rely on.

Pass entire data item vs just id as Prop in Vue list when using VueX

I have a VueX state that contains a list of items. E.g.:

}
We need to display each Operation as an item in a list. So we have an OperationList component and an OperationItem component.
When it comes to rendering the list (v-for), would it be recommended to pass the entire item as a prop or just the id and have the OperationItem read the data from VueX?
Basically:

<operation-item v-for="operation in operations" :operation="operation" :key="operation.id"/>
I think it might be a preference choice but in my projects I usually pass all the prop of the components that way :

I'm not sure if that's a good practice or not but in this case, it's more flexible, you don't need to give a structured object for it to render, you just have to give it all it's properties.
A bit like for a class constructor, I would pass all the necessary parameters separately instead of passing them in an $option array or Settings class.
For some components, it also doesn't make sense for them to be aware of the store, they should juste be "stupid" rendered components.

I'd say pass the entire item. That way your component doesn't need to know where the data came from and you would be able to reuse the component in situations where the data didn't come from Vuex.

is there A Communication Manager for vue components?

I was Vue.js now for a project and created and used a lot of components.
Now I started to have the problem of having too many eventemitters and props that I need to keep track of.
I guess to illustrate the problem the best I will use an example:
Lets say you have a main.vue and 2 or 3 Components.
One contains a button that should manipulate the other 2 components or switch them out.
Now I need to emit an event to the main.vue and then main.vue has to change a binded variable and pass props down to the other 2 components.
Alright: Now lets put the button in a component of of a component. You need to make sure that every link between a parent and a child is correct.
Now create a bit project and put a button in another components and you have to change everything.
So is there a good way to avoid this?
Something like a broadcast function so that every component is receiving the event?
Or a Manager that is handling the communication of all components?

At first you may think that this does not really answer the question, since it deals with storage of data, and not handling of events. The flux pattern changes the architecture of your application by creating a single store (think database) that all components can read and write from. Coupled with the reactive nature of the reactive frameworks such as vue (or react), the components will react to a change in data. So instead of tightly coupling component A to D through B and C, you'd have component A listen to mutations in object X, and component D makes changes to object X. When the change happens, component A gets updated without having to listen to any of the children's $emit functions firing. At first it may seem daunting, but the investment is worthwhile.

Vue.js 2.0 - creating reusable components

I am trying to create fully reusable component using Vue.js 2 and single file components, and right now my approach seems to be impossible to realize.
The goal is to create component for creating forms for a complex, nested JSON structure. This structure is supposed to be edited and then sent to the server. The component itself displays a header and submit button but the fields along with their placing is entirely the responsibility of the user of my component. (front-end engineer)
The MyForm component (implementation is not relevant here) is passed the JSON data and url to post them to.
The form is supposed to be reusable by many other users and the contents of the form itself is supposed to be not relevant. It may have a mix of html/inputs/custom components as children.
Let's imagine a simple scenario without data nesting with the following data:

And a form i would like to create using my component:

Therefore:
MyForm gets passed a model to submit, stores it in data
MyTextInput is a custom component for displaying input with label
Second MyTextInput is the same component but created in another component contained called 'MyPanel' since this field needs to be placed differently.
As we can see there are many problems with passing variables and composition itself:
Composition:
If i put a <slot></slot> in the tempplate of MyForm for displaying the fields it would be compiled in parent scope, therefore all children (including MyTextField) would not have access to the "model"
If i try to use <MyForm inline-template> i cannot automatically display the form header and footer since all content is being replaced. Additionally when using single file components the compiler will look for all components inside the inline-template which means that i would have to import MyTextInput and MyPanel into MyForm which is not practical. I do not know in advance all components that will never end up in my form!
Passing variables:
If i use the variables directly from "model" (in first TextInput) i receive warning that i am modifying a variable from parent and it will be overwritten on next render (but in this case it will not be overwritten since i am INTENTIONALLY modifying the parent)
I cannot pass the model into second MyTextInput without passing it to MyPanel first. Actually i would have to pass it into EVERY custom component in between. And i do not know in advance how many custom components will there be. Which means that i would have to modify the code of every component that would ever be put into MyForm and require users to pass the data for each custom component they include.
If i would try to properly inform the parent about changes i would need to add v-on: event to every textinput and every custom component in between in order for the event to reach MyForm.
As i have said the component was supposed to be simple and easilly reusable. Requiring users of this component to modify code of every child they put into it and requiring them to add v-on: to every component inside does not seem practical.
Is my idea solvable using Vue.js 2.0 ? I have designed the same component before for AngularJS (1.5) and it was working fine and did not require to add modifications to each child of the form.
I've been using a ui framework based on vue 2.0 and you may get some ideas from its implementation. Based on its implementaion and my little experience with it, I think it's the person who uses your framework's responsibility to assemble the form-model. Also, for a form, we can always easily get all the data to be sent by using fields' value props without v-model's help.
The framework's doc on form element may also be helpful but it's currently only available in Chinese except for the code samples.
I suggest you to use Form Input Components using Custom Events to pass variables in your form.
Mutating a prop locally is now considered an anti-pattern, e.g.
declaring a prop a and then set this.a = someOtherValue in the
component. Due to the new rendering mechanism, whenever the parent
component re-renders, the child component's local changes will be
overwritten. In general, in 2.0 you should treat props as immutable.
Most use cases of mutating a prop can be replaced by either a data
property or a computed property.
