htaccess remove .php extension and rewrite to www - apache

I'm trying to accomplish 2 things in htaccess that is located in my root directory and should affect all web pages throughout my website. I'm using Apache 2.4.
1) Rewrite non-www to www (this part is currently working)
2) Remove .php extension from URL
For #2 I found two threads about this but when trying to implement it with code from #1 it never seems to work.
Remove .php extension with .htaccess
How to hide the .html extension with Apache mod_rewrite
Here is my code, the first part works fine but the second part doesn't seem to do anything for me as ".php" still shows up on all URL's.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS}s ^on(s)|
RewriteRule ^ http%1://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f
RewriteRule !.*\.php$ %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php [QSA,L]
I also looked at this thread and tried the following, still not working.
5 .htaccess Rewrites: Force HTTPS, Remove index.php, Remove .php, Force www, Force Trailing Slash
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)\.(?!js|css)([^.]*)$ $1\.php
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS}s ^on(s)|
RewriteRule ^ http%1://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
UPDATED
Here is the folder structure and where the PHP code exists. Most php files are in the root folder but there are two additional folders that contain PHP code.
/
index.php
file1.php
file2.php
file3.php
file4.php
folder1/file5.php
folder1/file6.php
folder2/file7.php
folder2/file8.php

You can use:
RewriteEngine On
Options -MultiViews
# Redirect to http(s)://www
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS}s ^on(s)|
RewriteRule ^ http%1://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
# remove php
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,}\s([^.]+)\.php [NC]
RewriteRule ^ %1 [R=301,L]
# Rewrite to php
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/$1.php -f
RewriteRule ^(.+)/?$ /$1.php [L]

.htaccess: remove html extension, force www and https

I developed a simple and pure html site with this pages:
index.html
page1.html
page2.html
etc
And I would like to configure .htaccess to:
-Force https
-Force www
-Remove .html extension (/page1.html -> /page1)
-Redirect index.html -> /
-When someone types /page1.html to be redirected to /page1 (without html) or (if not possible) to 404 error page
How should I configure my .htaccess?
Thanks in advance
To remove .html and to force https://www , you can use the following rule :
RewriteEngine on
#force https+www
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(?:www\.)?(.+)$
RewriteRule (.*) https://www.%1/$1 [NE,L,R]
#Remove .html
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} /([^.]+)\.html [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1 [L,R]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.html -f
RewriteRule ^(.*?)/?$ /$1.html [L]
Clear your browser cache before testing these rules.
#OK we force https and www
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.exmple.com/$1 [L,R=301]
# remove .html from uri
RewriteRule ^([^\.]+)$ $1.html [NC,L]
# remove trailing slashes
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ /$1 [L,R=301]
# redirect index.html -> /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} \.html$
Redirect /index.html /
All seems to work except when I enter example.com/page1.html. It doesn't remove html

.htaccess remove .html and force redirect to extensionless url

I'm trying to remove .html extensions from URLs and to have 302 redirection to the extensionless URLs like this:
http://example.com/file.html -> http://example.com/file
I have looked at so many stackoverflow answers, tried them but unfortunately no success. I came out with this and I don't understand why it does not work:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html -f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} \.html$
RewriteRule (.*)\.html$ /$1 [R=302,L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html -f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !\.html$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.html
Where the first block should redirect to the extensionless version and the second block should find the file.
You need to use %{THE_REQUEST} here to prevent rewrite loop error. otherwise without THE_REQUEST variable Rule keeps rewriting file => file.html=>file=>file.html..
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} /([^.]+)\.html [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) /%1 [R=302,L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html -f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.html

htaccess rewrite from a php file to subdomain

I would like to redirect from example.com/profile.php?UserName=xxxx to xxxx.example.com
xxxx contains a-z or 0-9.
I have tried bunch of codes to do it (some from this site) but none of them worked as I wanted it to be. Here is my current code:
RewriteEngine on
#this should redirect example.com/profile.php?UserName=x to x.site.com
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !www.example.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([a-z0-9-_]+).example.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) %1/$1 [QSA,L]
#if link does not contain subdomain add www
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]
You need to put all of your redirect rules before your internal routing rules. The rules with the R flag redirect.
RewriteEngine on
# This redirects the browser to include the "www"
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]
# This redirects the browser when profile.php is directly accessed
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \ /+profile\.php\?UserName=([a-z0-9-_]+)
RewriteRule ^ http://%1.example.com/? [L,R]
# this internally routes the XXX.example.com to the profile.php script
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !www.example.com$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([a-z0-9-_]+).example.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^$ /profile.php?UserName=%1 [QSA,L]
Since there was not a good answer here.. In order to rename a php file and use the subdomain extention.. I had to edit my DNS settings.. This tutorial helped :http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/server/apache/mod-rewrite/subdomains.html

.htaccess - force www, trailing slash and remove extension

I've been playing about with my .htaccess file and so far, it's working, but there's a few bugs.
I'm trying to force the WWW prefix (just the root, not on subdomains) while removing the .php extension and adding a trailing slash.
Code
# Force WWW prefix
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS}s ^on(s)|
RewriteRule ^ http%1://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
# Remove .php extension
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^GET\ /[^?\s]+\.php
RewriteRule (.*)\.php$ /$1/ [L,R=301]
RewriteRule (.*)/$ $1.php [L]
# Force trailing slash
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f
RewriteRule .*[^/]$ $0/ [L,R=301]
It successfully force the WWW, even if I remove it, the .php extension is removed, even if I add it, and the the trailing slash is forced, even if I remove it. However, sometimes I get a 404 not found error saying that the requested URL (generally ending with the .php extension) was not found on the server, and often directories do not actually work.
Edit
often directories do not actually work
meaning the server throws a 404 error saying "/directory.php was not found on this server".
Can anyone lend me a hand?
You need to check that you're actually rewriting to a php file before you blindly attach the php extension. So this rule:
RewriteRule (.*)/$ $1.php [L]
Needs some conditions:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/(.+)/$
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/%1.php -f
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ $1.php [L]
You can also avoid redirecting to include www in the hostname for subdomains if you check that there is at least 1 host before the TLD, try adding another condition to your prefix rule:
# Force WWW prefix
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+)\.([a-z]{2,4})$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS}s ^on(s)|
RewriteRule ^ http%1://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
EDIT:
Here's what the full file should look like:
RewriteBase /
# Force WWW prefix
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+)\.([a-z]{2,4})$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTPS}s ^on(s)|
RewriteRule ^ http%1://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
# Remove .php extension
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^GET\ /[^?\s]+\.php
RewriteRule (.*)\.php$ /$1/ [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/(.+)/$
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/%1.php -f
RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ $1.php [L]
# Force trailing slash
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}.php -f
RewriteRule .*[^/]$ $0/ [L,R=301]

Redirect not working for complex rewrite rules (.htaccess)

I'm trying to make a redirect from a non-www version of the link to the www one. Its working fine for something like http://mywebsite.com but it fails for a request like http://mywebsite.com/artists/metallica/ or even a complex one. The whole .htaccess file is bellow. Any clues?
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.*).html
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.*)/$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://mywebsite.com/$1/ [L,R=301]
RewriteRule ^artists/([^/-]+)-p([^/]+)/$ /artists.php?l=$1&p=$2 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^artists/([^/]+)/$ /artists.php?l=$1 [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^submit/$ /submit.php [QSA,L]
RewriteRule ^users/$ /users.php [QSA,L]
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^.*/index.php
RewriteRule ^(.*)index.php$ http://www.mywebsite.com/$1 [R=301,L]
Try this rule:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.
RewriteCond %{HTTPS}s ^on(s)|
RewriteRule ^ http%1://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
But make sure that you put this rule in front of those rules that just do an internal rewrite. Otherwise an already internally rewritten rule might get redirected externally.
