I'm just getting started creating reports for a VB.NET application in Visual Studio. I get that you have to put a report viewer control on a form and bind the report to it when running the application but when developing the report, how do you just preview it without running the app and then the report? I have it open in design mode but for the life of me I can't figure out how to preview it while developing.
Thanks

Need abit help im working on a project and after update VS 2022, im unable to open some form's Designer. Project have no error and i can build & run the app with no issues but i cannot open the designer it showing this error.
im using Telerik Winforms and some other forms are fine to open and can do watever but some showing this error.
Using Visual Studio 2019, VB Windows Forms App(.Net Framework) template, my students are building projects using multiple forms, pictures (as background images and in picture boxes) and timers. When they have two or more pictures, the programs crash irretrievably.
The error message is:
Error while trying run project: (path to project location) Access is
denied.
Even if they remove the pictures, the error remains and the program no longer works. I never experienced this problem when we were using VB2015.
My student assistant tried to replicate the problem on (Vis Studio 2019) his home computer and couldn't.
If you're using an antivirus you may add an Exception to the project path.
You may also try to run VB2019 as Administrator to see if that was the problem, click on the VS2019 icon using the right button of the mouse and then click on Execute as Administrator.
I'm new to VB.Net and I'm trying to develop a desktop app using VB.Net 2019 and Crystal reports. I have few questions which i need some clarifications.
My project is is working fine in my development machine.(VB.Net , MS SQL , Crystal Reports). But when trying to deploy it to clients, I get some errors when trying to load reports. I have installed CR13SP27MSI32_0-10010309 in development pc and CR13SP27MSI32_0-10010309 for clients.
I Have inserted and designed the Crystal Reports inside Visual studio IDE. So, when loading reports crystal report viewer, I do not use a report path in the code. I just declare a new instance of the existing report. Is this correct or do i always have to show the physical path of the report source?
I tried to to create a setup project but It fails during the build. So, I copied the exe to a client machine and I get a error when trying to load a form with a Crystal Report Viewer. Is it because the required files are missing from the client PC?. Do i have to install both Visual studio and Crystal report in client computers?
Client machines don't need Crystal Designer. They need Crystal Runtime for .NET framework, which has separate installs (one for 32-bit and one for 64-bit).
Here is a good official resource: https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/Crystal+Reports%2C+Developer+for+Visual+Studio+Downloads
Anyone can help me with below error? It looks like it has something to do with different versions but I am not able to solve it. I followed different instructions like: Installing the NuGet package for the WinForms than adding the dll via .NET Framework components.
When I drag and drop the ReportViewer onto a Form it gives me the below error.
This is what I did and it worked well for me:
1- Installed Microsoft Rdlc Report Designer for Visual Studio
2- Opened Visual Studio and created a new project using Visual Basic > Report Application template. (You can also search for it using top right search box)
3- From the warning dialog clicked Trust
4- Cancelled Report Wizard (I just didn't want to create report initially, you can create.)
5- Rebuild the solution.
You are all set. You can add a new Report and design it in VS and show it in ReportViewer. If you open Form1 you can see a ReportViewer there.
To add it to toolbox, you can click on Choose Items and then Browse your solution directory and from the NuGet package folders go to report viewer package folder and select Microsoft.ReportViewer.WinForms.dll.
For more information on how to add report viewer control to a form see Integrating Reporting Services Using ReportViewer Controls - Get Started.
i have created web site in Web Developer Express. Now i am going to add some reports to project. so i am using Report Viewer web control. You know that it is not in toolbox by default. i added it to tollbox and add it to form when i run it show report. but on design mode ut gives error Failed To Create designer 'Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportViewer, Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms, Version =9.0.0.0, culture=neutral, PublicKeyToke=....'
According to this, the ReportViewer has been discontinued in Express, starting with 2010.
As a work-around, Microsoft recommends using BIDS 2008 (Business Intelligence Development Studio) for the report designer and the ReportViewer.exe redist for the run time.
Good luck!
