When I press Ctrl+Shift+N (Go to File) and start to find any file, I don't get any results. I tried to delete the .idea folder, and unfortunately no luck. Do you have any suggestions how to fix this? my PhpStorm version is 10.0.0.1.
Update - I tried to open another project, and It still didn't work.
Well I don't know exactly what caused this problem, but when I tried to invalidate the cache and restart, it did the work. (File -> Invalidate Caches -> Invalidate and Restart)

Without "excluding" folders, how can I stop Indexing intellij idea on start? It's very very annoying that it starts indexing on startup without allowing you to, for example, debug a test case making you wait until indexing has finished.
You can stop synchronizing/indexing each time you switch to the IDEA and it's quite useful when dealing with big projects and outside build process which triggers indexing.
Just disable checkbox System Settings -> Synchronize files on frame or editor tab activation.
Make sure you run indexing manually to update hints when needed through Synchronize menu (Cmd-Alt-Y on Mac) or File -> Reload All from Disk to run it manually for IDEA 2020 running under Linux
Try:
File-> Invalidate Caches / Restart.
I think that this issue happens (at least for me it seems to be the reason) if you start commit and then close the IDE in the middle of the process.
Now, "excluding" folders is the only way to disable indexing when a change occurs in one of excluded folders (except for generated sources that mustn't be excluded).
Checked with Intellij 2016.2.5
I suggest you to tune your Intellij configuration, see this post : https://stackoverflow.com/a/22508853/779338
You Can easily resolve it.
Just Go to: File -> Setting -> Directories.
Stop all the files that are going to included and need to empty ADD Content Root.
Like This:
It may be because of libraries folder is added more than one sub folder in the project. example in my case i have node_modules folder in two locations in the project. one is under root directory(app-->node_modeules) another one is under(app-->test-->node_modules)
Simply Right click on each folder and then selected Mark Directory As --> Excluded
It resolved my problem. Hope it would be helpful.
After struggling with this issue for around a week and searching all the solution I came to below conclusion:
either upgrade your intellij which gives you feature to pause the indexing ( I can't upgrade my intellij due to license issues ) so the other option was to disable all the plugins and then try enabling as per the need one by one.
After enabling any of the plugin if you see it behaving the same uninstall the plugin and download some alternative of it.
If longer indexing is an issue you can enable the shared indexes.
Add this plugin in your intellij and follow the instructions from here.
In my case i had constantly indexing files in Angular application when i remove node_modules folder.
I've tried to invalidate caches multiple times what didn't help at all.
Only solution was to remove project with clear Git state and reclone project - than everything started to work just flawlessly.
I recently put several old, yucky git directory structures into one new, clean structure in SVN, then pulled the entire SVN repository back out into a new, clean, local git repository. One IntelliJ project was so messed up I had to import the old IntelliJ project, which created a new .iml file having a better name, and deleted the old .iml file. I reconfigured everything, committed back into SVN, and verified other people could open the project and build.
Today I tried to edit a file for the first time in this project and got the message, "These files do not belong to the project". IntelliJ offers to unlock the file or all non-project files in the current session, but both options sound wrong. What have I done to myself, and how do I fix it?
This happened for me when I ignored the .idea/ files. Just do
rm -rf .idea/
And then File -> Invalidate Caches/Restart -> Invalidate And Restart.
I figured out the problem. The file was still open from before all the shuffling, and was apparently pointing at the original file in its original location! I closed the editor and reopened the file from the project tree without a problem. I hope this helps someone else someday.
From File-> Repair IDE -> Rescan Project Indexes -> Reopen Project worked for me.
Had same problem on Ubuntu (Webstorm), got answer from Intellij.
There are no content roots in your project, so all your files are
treated as non-project files. As I wrote your .idea files are likely
broken, the .iml file and/or modules.xml are either missing or
corrupted. Deleting and re-creating .idea folder should help:
-close the project
-remove it from Recent projects list
-shut down the IDE
-delete the .idea folder
-restart, open the project root folder with File > Open
https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/requests/3779670?page=1
This also happened for me when I opened the project through a symlink (parent directory) or when the python interpreter was inside a symlink directory (because of virtualenv).
Reopening through the original directory tree (after fighting hard with the IDE to forget its beloved project settings), solved the issue.
It's probably listed in one of the XML config files in .idea/*.xml.
Just do a find of that folder for the name of the file in question, and remove the entry for it from the XML.
Mine was listed in .idea/workspace.xml within the following node: <component name="TypeScriptGeneratedFilesManager">.
I removed the option, then invalidated caches and restarted, and now the file is marked as a standard, non-generated file again. This way you can keep all your settings without exporting them and importing them.
Similar issue with WebStorm. The difference was I had to shutdown the IDE completely and then remove .idea folder
rm -rf .idea
I tried doing it with the IDE open and going to file File -> Invalidate Caches but that did not fix the problem for me.
Same problem. File was considered not part of the project even if I deleted it and created a new one with the same name.
To fix,I highlighted the project node in the left panel, selected "File/Invalidate caches and restart" from the top menu.
After the restart I had to set my file as a JS file (right click, set as JavaScript), close and reopen the project. All fixed.
For me the above did not help. I ended up going Project Structure -> Modules -> + at the top narrow middle column -> browsed through files to select the Project Folder -> apply -> ok -> all is done and working correctly.
My problem was much simpler than expected: I was trying to run a Jupyter notebook and got the error - because it was inside a folder that was marked "excluded" in the project structure.
Simply moving the notebook out of the excluded folder solved my problem.
In my case it was auto-generated .gitignore, I had entries like:
### npm ###
node
node_modules
frontend-dest
data/
And in project files I had java package called like com.company.test.data which matched last pattern. I strongly recommend to check it before removing .idea/ files and invalidating cache.
This warning is an IDE issue that Android Studio cannot recognise the current directory if it does not include any source files.
So, adding am empty source file, e.g empty_xxx.c under the directory in question and adding below line in CMakeList.txt
add_library(${TARGET_NAME_XXX} SHARED ${SOME_DIR_HAVING_THIS_WARNING}/empty_xxx.c)
will help get rid of this warning.
In my case the above methods didn't help, I just deleted .idea file in project and reset the Jetbrain IDE to default settings and it worked normally.
NB: You will loose all your settings and plugins, but if you don't mind this might help as the last resort like in my case.
I am using Jetbrain,
make sure to include all project files in the project. Use Settings -> project structure.
PyCharm > Preferences > Project > Project Structure > Add Content Root
Somehow PyCharm lost the project root directory in my case
For me it was because I had moved a project to wsl by copying the files from wsl to windows. When I switched branches the file must've been open from before and was the windows version of it and not the wsl one.
I noticed this finally by looking on top of the file tab and seeing the path as C:\User...\filename instead of \\wsl$....\filename.
Close your JetBrains IDE, then open a Terminal window and navigate to your project's root folder, and run these 2 commands:
rm -rf .idea
and then
rm -rf .git
NOTE: you'll probably have to connect your project back to your git repository, so if you have any uncommitted changes make sure to commit and push them beforehand to avoid losing them.
I am having an issue with IntelliJ, where it presents a modal popup saying
Error
Canot copy sourcedir/somejar to destination/somejar. Reason sourcedir/somejar (No such file or directory)
However when I do a ls sourcedir/somejar, I can find it.
Cleaning your IntelliJ system cache may solve your problem.
Go to File -> Invalidate Caches...
Then click Invalidate and Restart.
From their website:
"...the only way to solve some conflicts is to clean out the cache..."
Cleaning out the system caches causes a complete rebuild of all the projects ever run in the current version of IntelliJ IDEA.
So we have a large project and I use the intellij navigate to file cntrl+shift+n all the time. I don't know what happened but now when I try and use it - it can't find anything. I haven't recently installed any plugins or anything.
I've restarted intellij a couple times, checked the little filter icon to make sure I'm not filtering on anything...nothing seems to be working. Any ideas what I need to do to get it working again?
Try 11.1.2 build and File | Invalidate Caches. If it doesn't help, contact JetBrains support with a sample project to reproduce it.
Also try to verify if some plugins are updated, and disable them to try if some of them is the problem.
In my case it was:
Apache config (.htaccess) support Version 131.61
Make sure your keymap is set to Default. You may be using different keymap, so go to File > Setting and search for Keymap. You can change it there.
When you press Ctrl+Shift+N the Find Window will pop up, check the filter icon (on top right of the Find Window) on the search box and ensure that the file type you are looking for is checked.
For me restarting the Webstorm with the project folder again sorted it out.
File -> New -> Project
Just restarting it kept the go to file source pointed to the Webstorm app directory.
I program in rust.
So for me installing the missing rust plug-in solved it.
I deleted the project and then reimported it using maven(right corner of IDE) -> plus icon to add project again
What helped me was to run an update (Help > Check for updates) and update what was needed (2 plugins)
I where working with a project and I closed because my computer was geting slow. When I tried to open my solution again xcode quitted. So everytime I try to open my project I get this error:
I am not able to open my solution. IS THERE A WAY I CAN RECOVER MY PROJECT!?
Nothing mentioned above/below worked for me. Here's what I did instead:
Right click on the .xcodeproj file and select Show Package Contents. Then delete the project.xcworkspace file. Open the project in Xcode and voilà.
There are a couple of things you can try, first make sure Xcode is not running ,trash the ~/Library/Cache/ folder contents, and trash the contents of the ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/ folder, if you what to can just find the stuff for your project in ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/ and trash just that. Then restart your computer.
If that doesn't work, rename your faulty projects folder to so method like ' old', create a new project of the same name, and then move all of the source files from ' old' to you new project and add them. Its a bit painful I known but I have had to do this once to get a project working again.
Double click the actual file! NOT the recent item!
Turns out that double-clicking on the actual file instead of selecting it from the Welcome to Xcode window will help open the project as expected!
Also, after the first time open it with double-clicking the file, the window will be fixed by itself 🤷🏻♂️
In my case, the project was moved to my iCloud Drive without me noticing it.
If it happens to you too, just go to your Finder, locate the project and check if there is a cloud next to it. Just right click it and "Download now". Try again once the download is finished.
I was having this issue with Xcode 12. Opening Xcode, and selecting my project from 'Recent projects' list was causing Xcode to crash
My solution: I navigated to the folder and opened ProjectName.xcworkspace file, then it worked
If you're working with git, right click the project-name.xcodeproj > Show Package Contents, open the file project.pbxproj and check for conflict and resolve it.
Quit Xcode, then make a copy of the xcworkspace file (just in case). In finder, right-click the xcworkspace file and choose Show File Contents.
In that directory, open the xcuserdata directory and delete any contents. Start Xcode again and open the project.
In my case there was something wrong with the saved project state, so doing this resets the state and it opened normally.
I had the same error and none of the above helped me.
Solution that helped me: Create a new project, then without closing it, go to
File -> Open
and select your .xcworkspace file.
