Nothing happens when I try to send files / folders to Compressed (zipped) folder [closed] - dll

For a while now, I've been unable to send files or folders to Zipped folder from windows explorer. The option is there, but when I click on it, nothing happens.
It seems others have had similar problems, but in their cases, the option has been greyed out, or another program has taken over as the default .zip program.
If I type "regsvr32 %windir%/system32/zipfldr.dll" into a run command, I get the following error:

The module "C:\WINDOWS/system32/zipfldr.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
Make sure that "C:\WINDOWS/system32/zipfldr.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again.

Very annoying, I'm not sure what is causing this.
I ran into this issue as well. However my fix was much easier. My file names and paths were too long to be zipped. There was no warning.
I resolved it by copy-pasting the directory to another with a shorter path.
e.g. from /this/path/is/way/too/ooo/ooo/oo/long to /home/Desktop

I've recently had a problem when using the "Send to
compressed (zipped) folder" context menu item nothing happens on
Windows 8.1.
Looking further into this I found that it worked most folders just not
the one I wanted to ZIP.
After a while I realised that I had a Visual Studio project source
code in this folder that had that annoying deep object folder problem and it
seems that when you click "Send to compressed (zipped) folder" if
there is an exceptionally deep directory structure in the folder you
are zipping, the compression may fail but show no error.
I use the following tried and tested RoboCopy method for removing
these broken directories with exceptionally deep paths that you can't
delete with Windows Explorer.

I can see that this could be a potential problem, however at the moment this is working fine again as far as I can see - if I have the issue again I guess I'll have to check out the file structure, maybe that could be the issue.
I had the same problem, when clicked on send to compressed file nothing happened, then i found out that when you have a deep folder structure, windows fails to zip and doesn't show any errors. Check whether your file does not have the extension. Remember that Windows explorer does not allow creating folders beginning with dot, even though the underlying system can handle them.
I realise that I'm quite late to answering this question but I was having the same problem when trying to zip a folder and it seemed that nothing happened and no error was shown.
I right clicked and copied the folder, then pasted it to the same directory, during the copy a dialog told me there were several files in the folder that where too long to be copied, so I clicked skip. Then right clicked the copied folder and sent to zip and it worked.
I know it is way too late but it might help someone. Does your folder have other sub-folders inside it? In my case, I tried zipping the folders which have sub-folders and it did not work (no response just like in your case). Try to zip the folders which have files only and no any sub folders inside.
I too ran into this problem while I was attempting to zip Android Studio Source code from 10 different projects. Initially having a overly deep structure seemed to be the case, and for me too Windows did not show an error initially.
So I did some more file digging and I found that this error usually occurs if you have an empty folder somewhere in your file structure of the file you are trying to zip. Each level down I was able to find the folder containing the mystery folder and each time the windows error would appear showing me the error saying that it could not zip an empty folder!
I went down the Rabbit hole and added a simple READ_ME.*txt file to each empty folder and viola!
I am using Windows 10 updated version on 10.2018.

I had this problem, but could not find this mysterious folder, or deep directory, in fact, one of the folders that wouldn't zip had just one Word document in it.
What I did was to find a folder that would zip (or create one) and then copy the folder that wouldn't zip into it.
Worked like a charm!
I worked around the problem by using 7-Zip instead.

System.IO.Directory.Delete v Git Repository - Unauthorized access
I'm writing a piece of software that maintains files in a Git repository. One of the executables I've written has one simple purpose: delete everything to do with the software. It is given to the user in a separate, completely unrelated Windows folder. One of the folders it needs to delete contains a Git repository, i.e. it contains a hidden .git folder Now here's the problem I'm having. When I'm on the PC itself looking at the file system I can find that folder, click on it, delete it .... and it's gone. Not a problem. So I try to do the same thing in my assembly by calling System.IO.Directory.Delete on that folder. Here is what I am finding: Everything is removed from the folder, but the folder itself is still there When I try to THEN manually delete the folder from Windows Explorer it gives me some Unauthorised Access message. I cannot delete it. The only way to actually get rid of it is to then try RENAME the folder in Windows Explorer, at which point I once again get an Unauthorized Access message but wouldn't you know it.... the folder disappears. What gives!?!? Why does a System.IO.Directory.Delete NOT do exactly the same thing as me going in through Windows Explorer and deleting the folder manually? I have tried a number of things. For example I tried getting all the files in the directory and setting all their Attributes to Normal, and through all the folders and setting their Attributes to Directory And Not Hidden. Still no joy. I even tried using Process.Start to run a RMDIR folder /S /Q - which runs perfectly from a .bat file - but the same thing happens. I do have TortoiseGit and all its dependencies installed in case that has anything to do with anything.... and the folder does have the green Tick on it to indicate that its content is all up to date. So my question is: Is there any way I can successfully delete a folder containing a Git repository though VB.NET?
I finally got to the bottom of this mysterious mystery. The culprit is TortoiseGit When I killed the TGitCache.exe process just before deleting the folder, everything worked perfectly. Go figure.
How do I download a file in a custom directory?
I googled it and no help. I am making a program here people register and then they can download some indie games i am creating. But i am having problems with the download function. When i go to download the game / program i am getting a error saying i need a file extension here is the code i am trying

Let me explain what to do. DownloadFile downloads a file to your PC, and not a folder. Here is the fixed code:
My.Computer.Network.DownloadFile("C:\ProgramData\GamingcenterApp\games", "READ_ME.txt")
Folders are purposely not supposed to be downloaded by the DownloadFile call. I haven't tested your code but it could generate an exception.
Argument 1 is the file you want to download from the internet, and Arguement 2 is the file name. Not the directory you want it to download to. Also, You can't set the text in the .txt file by code. And of course this will generate an exception because I tested your code.
If this does not help, Simply comment on this answer and I will try to improve it.
How to configure IntelliJ products WITHOUT editing files in bin?
I'd like to set some specific options in idea.vmoptions and idea.properties for IntelliJ IDEA 14, but I don't have access to those files in C:\Program Files\... (yes, that's Windows, don't troll ;) Is there a folder in %UserProfile% or an environment variable I could set to read those files (both vmoptions and properties!) from elsewhere? Please don't suggest to copy the whole IDEA folder elsewhere, there's a reason why I can't access it. I would be interested in a Linux solution too, the same would most likely work on Windows. My Research For Mac there're specific instructions at Increasing Memory Heap, but for Linux and Windows it's just filename which are trivial to find out anyway. I also found IntelliJ IDEA files locations, but it says can be modified in IDEA_HOME\bin\idea.properties which doesn't help since I can't access that file, but want to change properties in it. Update: Simple Answer Create IDEA_PROPERTIES and IDEA_VM_OPTIONS environment variables and point them to the files you want, restart IDE, done. Also see documentation for more (and maybe report that it lacks any mention of IDEA_PROPERTIES).
You can use %USERPROFILE%\.IntelliJIdea14\idea%BITS%.exe.vmoptions on Windows as custom options file. I tried it and it works. Another way that I haven't tried, but I think should work, is to copy idea.bat and edit it to use the file you need.
Xcode: "The document could not be saved. You don’t have permission."
I'm getting this error when trying to save a file in Xcode 4: "The document could not be saved. You don’t have permission. To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info." Naturally, saving the file in TextMate works fine. Permissions: -rw-r--r-- Nothing changed from when it worked the last time. Files are not locked, I tried rebooting, disk space is ok, files are on a local drive, error was googled. Any ideas? Thanks. Update: Also tried copying the files or renaming them. Directories are not locked. By the way, when I edited project configuration in Xcode it saves fine, I only met with the issue saving .m/.h files. I guess that copying the actual text in the files would work but I'm trying to find a bit less hardcore solution (bash script wouldn't be the issue but there could be other problems). It's not the simplest project either (~70 files, edited config). Update 2: Found possible duplicate, doesn't really resolve the problem Unable to unlock file for editing in Xcode 4? Update 3: Checked out earlier commit and when opening Xcode it said the project is locked. Checked out the same commit again and the error does not appear again (all files exc. DS_Store are tracked). What. Update 4: I created a new user and set chmod -R 777 to the project directory. Editing now works fine. However I can't get it to work under my main account (I have all my preferences here.)
Rebooting fixed the error in my case.
Fixed by changing account name by following this guide. This essentialy creates a new account but with your old Home directory and within the process of transferring it fixes some file permissions. (From above link:) For Mac OS X v10.5 or later (do this twice if you want to keep your original username) : Enable the root user. Log in as root. Navigate to the /Users folder. Select the Home folder with the short name you want to change, and rename it just like you would rename any folder. Keep in mind that the shortname must be all lowercase, with no spaces, and only contain letters. Use the Users & Groups pane (Accounts pane in Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier) in System Preferences to create a new user with the Account name or Short Name that you used in the previous step. Click OK when "A folder in the Users folder already has the name 'account name'. Would you like to use that folder as the Home folder for this user account?" Note: This will correct the ownership of all files in the Home folder, and avoid permissions issues with the contents. Choose Log Out from the Apple menu. Log in as the newly created user. You should be able to access all of your original files (on the desktop, in Documents, and in the other folders of this Home). After verifying that your data is as expected, you can delete the original user account via the Users & Groups pane (Accounts pane in Mac OS X v10.6.8 or earlier). Disable the root user.
Xcode 6 update: still seeing this problem. Seems like an Xcode bug, because opening the file by clicking the error in the Issue navigator causes this problem, but if I open the file using the cmd+shift+O shortcut I am able to edit and save it. So for me the workaround is to not open the file by selecting the error and to open it using the Project navigator or Open quickly shortcut.
I upgraded to Lion and downloaded the new Xcode and found the same problem and found nothing to help, losing about three days trying to fix it. Then I realized that the Xcode 4, which is saved in the Applications folder, doesn't overwrite Xcode 3, which is in the Developer folder. When I was opening Xcode, I was opening version 3, not 4. Make sure you're opening the right version.
open up the terminal and set chmod 777 to the desired file or set chmod -R 777 to the desired directory. it should solve your problem
I just ran into this issue also. I was not able to fix it not by changing the permissions of the individual project file or folder. However, I was able to fix it by going into 'get info' on my user's home folder, reselecting the 'Read & Write' permissions for my user, and then clicking the gear->'apply to enclosed items'. Took it a while but then everything worked as expected. Hope it helps someone else.

I just pod update again, when pod finished, Xcode will show an alert "The document has previously unsaved changes.", then click "Re-Save". that fix my issue.
I Had the same problem with actual swiftUI. Solved the Problem easy: Copy and paste the content from .swift-file to a word-document Delete the swift-file Close Xcode and reboot Hardware New .swift-file in XCode and paste code from word-document cmd+B ... cmd+r
I used to encounter the same problem several times, last time it was on Xcode 12.4 It seems like a bug for me, because it tells that some private file is modified despite I don't have any permissions to do so even if I want. Force quitting and relaunching the Xcode always helped before.
Using Other Programmers Custom Controls
I am using Scott Mitchell's textBox Characters and Words counter control, i downloaded it from the website https://web.archive.org/web/20211020202742/https://www.4guysfromrolla.com/ and unzipped it to my desktop. then in VWD Express 2008, i created a new tab in the Toolbox, i chose the *.dll from the unzipped folder, i used the control, all is fine (try it, i recommend it) but when i backed up my code, copied the site, and tried to run it on another computer, i got a bunch of error all indicating that its looking for the dll file on my desktop, but when i checked under my bin folder in my website directory, the dll is there... Help Plz...
If you view the properties of the reference you'll probably find that the path to the reference is incorrect. I have often found that the quickest way of fixing the problem is to open the project file with notepad and correct the path to the reference.
