I am having this problem for the first time. I recently bought a Macbook and is now using bootcamp to run Windows 10. Whenever I debug my program, the layout will move away causing something like this. (On the right is the running program)
The project folder is copied from my old asus laptop to this new macbook running bootcamp windows 10. The project was created using the same version of VS as well on the old laptop.
The above image is when I use the font setting for the form : Microsoft Sans Serif, 8pt
And below image is when I use a different size font : Microsoft Sans Serif, 10pt
Why is the debugged application re-sized by itself so much by just adjusting the font size?
Here is my computer(Windows 10) specs if necessary :
Windows 10 Pro
Visual Studio 2015 Pro
Display resolution using 2650 x 1600

UWP applications fail to launch from Visual Studio if project location and Windows Store apps installation path are on a non-default drive. Also, the XAML Designer will crash if you install Visual Studio and Windows Store apps to a non-default drive
Windows 10 allows users to change the default storage location of Windows Store applications. If you select a non-default drive for your apps, and if you install Visual Studio 2015 onto this drive, the XAML designer will not start and Windows Store app projects built on this drive cannot be run from Visual Studio.
Note: the workaround below will make any Store apps installed to the secondary drive inaccessible until next restart.
The file system driver can be temporarily disabled by running the following command from an admin command prompt:
fltmc detach filecrypt :
This will enable both running apps from this drive as well as usage of the XAML designer until the machine is restarted.
For a longer term fix, move your app or Visual Studio install to your system drive, or a secondary drive that has never been the storage location for Windows Store apps.
I had the same problem. I started visual studio as an administrator and the designer came back.
You might want to try to clear the XAML Designer Shadow Cache. I've fixed al sorts of ailments with this process.
Its been a few months but I have finally been able to get the XAML Designer to work.
As #peterfaraday mentioned, the XAML Designer only works if you install Visual Studio on the System Drive (C: in my case) instead of using any other drive.
After uninstalling Visual Studio keep the following things in mind...
If your system partition is small, look to increase the space as the installation can take a lot of space based on the components selected.
If you had already installed VS on any other drive, while reinstalling you will not be able to change the default installation directory.
This is because your initial path of installation was saved as in the registry. I tried solving this issue by following these steps. In my case I had found multiple keys in the registry and hence "Reset this PC" (Windows 10) by allowing only for my personal files to remain. This cleared out all the registry keys and I was able to install VS back on the C: drive, resulting in the XAML Designer finally working (Please note that resetting your pc will remove any applications installed on your machine)
I got the same problem months ago. I Cleared the cache and Rebuild the solution. I got success.
I have a big problem in my vb.net.
I created application using vb.net and Dev component, it was working 100%, but after I upgraded my operating system from Windows 8 pro to Windows 8.1 pro, VS2012 and dev component installed I faced a big problem.
I can't use the GUI to edit most of control during design, its looks like it is a part of the form, and can't be selected, as per the below photo.
And for new controls on new forms (Dev Forms) it can't appear in form to be edited, it shown in the bottom area as per the below photo
Solution I have only Dev Ver.11 full:
1. Un-install Dev Ver.11
2. Install last dev trial ver12.
3. Open VS2012.
4. Uninstall dev ver.12
5. Re-install dev Ver.11 again, activate, enjoy.
I'm using DirectShowNet in C#. I've been developing an application to work with webcams to display video, change resolution, and take pictures (either Still pin or from the Capture stream). I've been testing it on 2 different machines (Win 7 64-bit & Win 8 64-bit) and with the internal webcams on those machines (they are laptops) and 2 other webcams, Logitech C920 and Microsoft LifeCam Studio.
One day, the LifeCam Studio stopped working on my Win 8 machine. Using GraphEditPlus, checking the VideoFormats for the Capture pin, I notice that, mysteriously, the RGB24 formats are no longer listed. I have written my application to use only 24-bit color format. Only YUY2 16-bit formats are listed. If I check the same webcam on my Win 7 machine, I see both the YUY2 and the RGB24 formats being listed. Previously, my Win 8 machine did list both of these formats.
The question is, what could cause DirectShow to change the list of VideoFormats for the Capture pin? So far, I've noticed that changing driver versions makes a huge difference for webcams in what pins they support, but I haven't seen them change video formats like this. As far as I know, I have not updated the drivers for the webcam on either machine.
Here are the driver versions for both machines.
LifeCam Studio - Windows 7 - 64-bit
LifeCam Studio - Windows 8 - 64-bit
I figured out how to get the formats back. I went into device manager and found the "Microsoft LifeCam Studio" device. I uninstalled it and hit the checkbox to "Also delete the driver for this device". After that, I refreshed device manager, and when the device was found, it had the name "Microsoft® LifeCam Studio(TM)", but then changed to "Microsoft LifeCam Studio". That made me realize that it automatically updated the driver.
As you notice in my Win 8 screenshot above, the button "Roll Back Driver" is enabled. This means that the driver was updated at some point. I proceeded to roll back the driver, which changed the name back to "Microsoft® LifeCam Studio(TM)".
Now, in GraphEditPlus, the device lists YUY2, MJPG (24-bit), and M420 (12-bit) video formats for the Capture pin. This seems to be what I have had in the past. It works properly with my application now since a 24-bit format is available.
Overall, Microsoft removed some of the DirectShow functionality of the device when they made the Windows 8 driver. This old driver is from 2006 and works fantastically with Windows 8. I'm assuming it is one built into the OS that was carryover from old Windows OS's.
Here is a screenshot of the working driver for others that would like more video formats available for the LifeCam Studio in Windows 8.

I seem to have a sudden issue with my XAML Designer view in VS2012, and a similar behavior in Blend as well. the view has stopped updating and I'm unable to see any changes immediately if I change any properties.
if I scroll or Pan, the Phone chrome seems to move but the content stays put. It gets restored upon slightly adjusting the borders or restarting the page. has anyone else faced this issue? do you know what I need to do? I'm using Visual Studio 2012 Professional (Update 2)
this image will show you what I mean. I re-installed the app and it didn't help
I had the same problem and I solved it.
I don't know which Graphics you have, but I have an Intel 4000 and a Nvidia 640m and I have to start Visual Studio with the Nvidia Graphics.
Maybe it's the same problem.
Had the same problem when doing XAML design for Silverlight 5 app in VS2012.
Have a HP 8570p with Intel HD Graphics 4000. Win7 64bit
I had the driver version 9.17.10.2867 released 17 Jan 2014.
Had to revert back to 8.15.10.2712 released 22 Jun 2012 and it worked there.
Edit 2014-03-25: Reinstalled the newer driver(was going to test something and remembered this) and now it seems to work with the newer driver version.
I wanted to put this as a comment on the question but that option isn't there for me... Not sure why.
I really don't think it's a memory issue. That doesn't explain resizing fixing the problem? Since this happens for you with all wp applications and not windows 8 I don't think its related to the emulator. I would try reinstalling the windows phone sdk and or the Silverlight runtime. Silverlight might be the faster options to start with.
Also a question, when you say all wp projects. Have you tried this with a CLEAN nothing added or changed project?
I'm trying to write a Microsoft surface application for Samsung sur40 pixelsense machine. I have found some sample projects online and run them on the MS Visual C# 2010, but I want to convert these projects into applications so that I can put them into Samsung sur40 and run them in its surface mode. Do you know how I can actually achieve this?
In order to write these type of applications, I am using the following OS, programs and tools.
Embedded Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Express Edition
.NET Framework 4.0
Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) 4.0
Microsoft XNA® Framework 4.0
Windows PowerShell and DMTF DASH support, and enhanced administrator tools
MS Surface 2.0 SDK(an Input Simulator allows me to develop and test projects on Windows 7 PCs)
Everything is working properly and I can test the sample projects on my PC. I just want to make a Visual Studio project to run in the Samsung sur40 machine. Please help me if it is possible? If you need further explanations to answer my question, please let me know and I try to expand the problem. Thank you in advance.
Menual install !
you can't see the folder "c:\ProgramData"
because the folder's option hide~
so..
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Surface\v2.0\Programs --> copy and paste!! and find!!
you create a shortcut of the ApplicationName.XML in your project for MS Surface applicaion
copy shortcut file and paste --> "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Surface\v2.0\Programs"
and following this steps :
In Windows mode, click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Surface 2.0, and then click Surface Configuration Editor
In the left pane, click Application Launcher.
In the Application Launcher pane, in the Launcher title box, type the title text you want to appear above Launcher.
The title text will be placed just above the Launcher menu and is left-justified. You cannot change the font, font size, font color, justification, or location of the text.
Click OK to save your setting and close Surface Configuration Editor, or click Apply to save your setting and continue configuring Surface. Restart Surface Shell for your settings to take effect.
