Using VBA to Create Microsoft Word Document Templates - vba

One of my clients requires my help to create corporate document templates in Microsoft Word - from letter, fax to memo.
Here are some of the requirements:
Fixed sections with no changes to font type, size and color
Fixed sections but the admin is able to edit the content
Placements of Sections (e.g. 3cm margin)
User is able to choose if they want a section displayed
A body text content that will be left blank but users can key in.
A different set of rules/formatting for the continuation pages (page 2>)
Just wanted to tap on the brains of all the VBA experts here and learn what is the best way to approach this. I understand that Word Document allows you to create templates and content locking - is that sufficient? I believe with Macro, the client can have stricter control (creating menus to select the required template, and forms to input the information).

Is it possible to use variables in a PDF document?

I want to make a editable PDF document – but I want to take it a step further.
Is it possible to create some editable fields on the first page where the user can put in personal information (name, age etc.) and have the document fill itself in where "name" is required?
I need this for some employment contracts and it would be alot faster if the user only needs to fill the information in once, print the PDF and sign it. :)
In PDF a single form field may have multiple widgets. By definition all these widgets have the same content.
E.g. have a look at thie sample document aFieldTwice.pdf. You see two fields. As soon as you edit one of them and press enter, the same content occurs in the other one.
This might be what you look for.

Word 2010 - Force Formatting In Specific Parts of Document

I am working with Microsoft Word 2010. I have a document that serves as a template for multiple users for a project I am working on. There are two parts of the document I want to force formatting when a user types:
Enter in an email address - I want the address to not automatically turn to a hyperlink. I want it to not turn to a hyperlink on just this part of the document. The rest of it I want hyperlinks to be enabled.
Enter in a URL without www in front (i.e. google.com), and not have the first letter automatically capitalize. I don't want to turn off capitalizing the first letter of a sentence in the whole document. Just in this part of the document.
Is this something that can be done? I tried messing with Fields but did not have any luck. I am familiar with VBA so if there is a way to do this with code, I am open to that too.
Both features you requires are implemented in Word using AutoCorrect/AutoFormat. They are not controlled by the style mechanism and consequently can't be selectively activated.
The mail address formatting can be controlled by styles, and you could prevent the switch to the Hyperlink style from being visible. You could also consider a macro that selectively changes the styles of the text as required in a post-processing pass through the documents - perhaps the next time the document is opened by a user for review.

How to create switchable multi-language pdf form?

I want to create a pdf form for two language (Chinese/English) UI, and there's a button(s) or somethings on the form for language switch, is there anyway can make it? and how to do?

Actually I got a sample like this,

mkl's comment (which he should turn into a full answer, really) already hinted at the option to use different page templates residing in the same file.
Another option you could explore is this:
put the two language versions into 2 different layers (or 'optional content groups' in PDF parlance)
make the visibility of the two layers toggeable
let the user activate that layer which he/she needs.
Layer activation can be handled through normal Acrobat Reader user interface elements.
The layer switching can be made accessible via a "button" on the PDF page too -- but that requires additional JavaScript to be embedded in the PDF (something many people are not particularly keen about).
As Kurt proposed, I make my comment on Frank's answer an answer in its own right:

templates. Thus, those two forms can reside in the same file in
different page templates, and based on some initially present buttons
("English version", ...) the desired form is spawned.
Unfortunately I don't know how to create page templates using some easy-to-use tool, I only came a cross them in the context of integrated PDF signatures (depending on the signature type, page template instantiation is a document change not breaking the signature) and tested them with low-level tools.
Essentially page templates are PDF objects just like page dictionaries of the normal pages, they are not XFA stuff. They merely are not referenced in the pages tree but instead in the name tree.
There is a JavaScript command which creates a visible page based on such a template --- I don't know which anymore; I may be able to find out when I'm back in office next week. This command would have to be bound to the inital language selection button in the file.
The problem will be in switching the static text - PDF does not allow this.
If I were you, I would split the document into two identical forms in the respective languages. You can use bookmarks and links on the first page to navigate to the right part of the document.
Note that it is possible to assign the same field names to the Enlgish/Chinese versions of your fields. This will make it easier to process the submitted form data because the process path would be independent of the chosen language. It will also simplify any JavaScript (validation, summing, etc.) you plan to add.

Detecting tables and images in word document using office interop

I am iterating through paragraphs in a word document using word interop API. So far i did not have a problem detecting different headings by using the style object. However now i have a situation that contents inside a table have the same style as those outside it. I need to figure out a way to understand when the paragraph in question is actually a table.
I have similar need to figure out when paragraph is actually an embedded image.
When i physically select a table or image in the word document i can see that tools section above format changes. When an image is selected it is "Picture tools" when a table is selected it is 'Table tools" and when a normal paragraph is selected the tools section does not show.
How can i detect this behavior using word interop API?

Though this post seems to be old, I came across this while searching for a similar problem while working on Office automation, hope this post will help to investigate and expand further.
While looping through paragraphs of a word document,
Paragraph.Range.Tables.Count provides a value indicating if the paragraph is inside a table or not.
Paragraph Outside table : Paragraph.Range.Tables.Count = 0
Paragraph Inside table : Paragraph.Range.Tables.Count = 1 ( or above not checked )
To get end of table (last paragraph inside table)
: Paragraph.Next().Range.Tables.Count == 0
(The above logic applies while using NetOffice assembly, which in-turn uses interop assemblies,hope this is applicable directly to word interop assembly also)

SharePoint2010 content editor?

I am building a website that will make heavy use of the content editor webparts to allow for content to be added. The drawback to this is that by default the content editor provides a "Rich Text Editor" which is good for adding data but bad because it has the potential to break styling. I have two solutions :
First is to do some coding to somehow have predefined css styles added to the styles menu of the Rich text editor.
Second which should be quicker is to simply disable the Rich text editor i.e disabling the fonts, styles, etc from the Rich Text editor so that users can only enter data and not mess around with the styling.
For soultion two, is this possble and what would be the quickest way to achieve this?

The whole point of the rich text editor is to allow the user to enter styled content as they see fit. If you don't want any styling to be applied through the RTE either create style rules in your CSS to overrride anything the user enters or else use content fields based on multiple lines of text rather than rich text.
