Change the foreground of a button when clicked - xaml

So all I am trying to do is change the color of a button when clicked but I've spent a good amount with errors and couldn't find anything helpful. Understand I am brand new to Visual Studio 2015 community.
There seems to be a lot of ways to do this either using brushes or solidcolorbrushes or a conversion.
Please mention using and references needed
here is my button:
<Button x:Name="CastButton"
Click="CastButton_Click"
HorizontalAlignment="Right"
VerticalAlignment="Bottom"
Margin="0,0,35,10"
FontFamily="Segoe MDL2 Assets"
FontSize="24"
Foreground="AliceBlue"
Content="">
</Button>

If you want to change the foreground color when the button is pressed, you will have to modify the Style of your control. Right click on your button in designer window, then Edit Template->Edit a Copy - this should create a copy of default template in resources, it should look like this:
<Page.Resources>
<Style x:Key="MyButtonStyle" TargetType="Button">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="{ThemeResource SystemControlBackgroundBaseLowBrush}"/>
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{ThemeResource SystemControlForegroundBaseHighBrush}"/>
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{ThemeResource SystemControlForegroundTransparentBrush}"/>
<Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="{ThemeResource ButtonBorderThemeThickness}"/>
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="8,4,8,4"/>
<Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Left"/>
<Setter Property="VerticalAlignment" Value="Center"/>
<Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="{ThemeResource ContentControlThemeFontFamily}"/>
<Setter Property="FontWeight" Value="Normal"/>
<Setter Property="FontSize" Value="{ThemeResource ControlContentThemeFontSize}"/>
<Setter Property="UseSystemFocusVisuals" Value="True"/>
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="Button">
<Grid x:Name="RootGrid" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}">
<VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<VisualStateGroup x:Name="CommonStates">
<VisualState x:Name="Normal">

<VisualState x:Name="PointerOver">

<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Foreground" Storyboard.TargetName="ContentPresenter">

</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>

</VisualState>
<VisualState x:Name="Pressed">

<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="BorderBrush" Storyboard.TargetName="ContentPresenter">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{ThemeResource SystemControlHighlightTransparentBrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<!--Here is the change of foreground when pressed-->
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Foreground" Storyboard.TargetName="ContentPresenter">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{ThemeResource SystemControlHighlightBaseHighBrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<PointerDownThemeAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="RootGrid"/>
</Storyboard>
</VisualState>
<VisualState x:Name="Disabled">
<Storyboard>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Background" Storyboard.TargetName="RootGrid">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{ThemeResource SystemControlBackgroundBaseLowBrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Foreground" Storyboard.TargetName="ContentPresenter">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{ThemeResource SystemControlDisabledBaseMediumLowBrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="BorderBrush" Storyboard.TargetName="ContentPresenter">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{ThemeResource SystemControlDisabledTransparentBrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
</Storyboard>
</VisualState>
</VisualStateGroup>
</VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<ContentPresenter x:Name="ContentPresenter" AutomationProperties.AccessibilityView="Raw" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}" ContentTemplate="{TemplateBinding ContentTemplate}" ContentTransitions="{TemplateBinding ContentTransitions}" Content="{TemplateBinding Content}" HorizontalContentAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalContentAlignment}" Padding="{TemplateBinding Padding}" VerticalContentAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalContentAlignment}"/>
</Grid>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
</Page.Resources>
You will find out that button's colors are changed by visual state manager, depending on current state. In Pressed state you will find this:
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Foreground" Storyboard.TargetName="ContentPresenter">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{ThemeResource SystemControlHighlightBaseHighBrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
This means, that no matter you set to the Foreground, when pressed, visual state manager will always change button's color to SystemControlHighlightBaseHighBrush. Of course you are free to change this value in the style. Then only apply it to your button:
<Button Content="Button with style" Style="{StaticResource MyButtonStyle}"/>

Now in you mainpage.xaml file add button code and apply style using a key for button.
<Button Style="{StaticResource StyleForbtn3}" Content="red" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="680,115,0,0" VerticalAlignment="Top"/>
<Button Style="{StaticResource StyleForAllButton}" Content="Button" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top"/>
If you plan to customize the appearance of the Button, you need to use the ContentPresenter to display the content when you set the ControlTemplate.
It should be stated that the Storyboard inside Style cannot affect other controls. For example, the internal Storyboard of btn1 can only change its own color, and cannot change the color of external btn2 and btn3. If you want to change the color of all buttons when hovering over, you need to use Code-behind and listen for the Button.PointerEntered event, or you can use the VisualStateManager on Page level.
This is a complete Button custom control template that can be used as a reference

When you have a ContentPresenter, your control content will show up.
If you want to change the color of other buttons while the mouse is hovering, this can be complicated, I suggest you understand this knowledge:
INotifyPropertyChanged
VisualStateManager
Here is the code to do this:
ButtonsPage.xaml
<StackPanel>
<VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<VisualStateGroup>
<VisualStateGroup.States>
<VisualState>
<VisualState.StateTriggers>
<StateTrigger IsActive="{x:Bind IsHover, Mode=OneWay}"/>
</VisualState.StateTriggers>
<VisualState.Setters>
<Setter Target="btn1.Background" Value="#25326E"/>
<Setter Target="btn2.Background" Value="#25326E"/>
</VisualState.Setters>
</VisualState>
</VisualStateGroup.States>
</VisualStateGroup>
</VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<Button Content="First" x:Name="btn1"/>
<Button Content="Second" x:Name="btn2"/>
<Button Content="Third" x:Name="btn3" PointerEntered="btn3_PointerEntered" PointerExited="btn3_PointerExited"
Style="{StaticResource PrimaryButtonStyle}"/>
</StackPanel>
ButtonsPage.xaml.cs
public sealed partial class ButtonsPage : Page, INotifyPropertyChanged
{
public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged;
public void OnProeprtyChnaged([CallerMemberName]string propertyName = "")
{
PropertyChanged?.Invoke(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName));

private bool _isHover;
public bool IsHover

OnProeprtyChnaged();

Make border show for selected button of multiple row of buttons

i want to make button with bottom border after clicked and until selecting next button please provide the solution
According to your description, using the RadioButton should meet your requirement.
You could custom its style and make it looks like a button, then you could add other effect in its visual state.
I've made a simple style for you reference:
<Page ...>
<Page.Resources>
<Style x:Key="RadioButtonStyle1" TargetType="RadioButton">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="{ThemeResource RadioButtonBackground}" />
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{ThemeResource RadioButtonForeground}" />
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{ThemeResource RadioButtonBorderBrush}" />
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="8,6,0,0" />
<Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Left" />
<Setter Property="VerticalAlignment" Value="Center" />
<Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Left" />
<Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="Top" />
<Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="{ThemeResource ContentControlThemeFontFamily}" />
<Setter Property="FontSize" Value="{ThemeResource ControlContentThemeFontSize}" />
<Setter Property="MinWidth" Value="120" />
<Setter Property="UseSystemFocusVisuals" Value="True" />
<Setter Property="FocusVisualMargin" Value="-7,-3,-7,-3" />
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="RadioButton">
<Grid x:Name="RootGrid" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderThickness="3">
<ContentPresenter x:Name="ContentPresenter" Margin="{TemplateBinding Padding}" HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalContentAlignment}" VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalContentAlignment}" AutomationProperties.AccessibilityView="Raw" Content="{TemplateBinding Content}" ContentTemplate="{TemplateBinding ContentTemplate}" ContentTransitions="{TemplateBinding ContentTransitions}" Foreground="{TemplateBinding Foreground}" />

How to brighten disabled controls in Windows Phone 8 XAML

I'm designing a corporate Windows Phone that will be used outdoors in bright sunlight. Certain fields in the app will be used purely for displaying data, but will be disabled for editing. Unfortunately disabled textboxes show up in a pale grey, which doesn't have enough contrast for outdoor viewing.
Is there a simple way to alter the PhoneTextDisabledBrush or PhoneDisabledBrush at the resource level to make the controls appear white? Are these the correct brushes?
I've tried add the following to the grid which contains the controls, but it makes no difference:
<Grid.Resources>
<SolidColorBrush x:Key="PhoneTextDisabledBrush" Color="#FFFFFF" />
<SolidColorBrush x:Key="PhoneDisabledBrush" Color="#FFFFFF" />
</Grid.Resources>
I've also tried adding it to the App.xaml file's resources, same result, and I've had no success with styles either.
What I am I doing wrong?
You can for example modify VisualState x:Name="Disabled" - this is the one that causes the problem. When you set the Control as disabled, the Storyboard changes colors of your TextBox. Depending on your needs you can comment it out or adjust colors for your purposes.
Default Style with commented out Disabled:
<phone:PhoneApplicationPage.Resources>
<Style x:Key="myTextBoxStyle" TargetType="TextBox">
<Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="{StaticResource PhoneFontFamilyNormal}"/>
<Setter Property="FontSize" Value="{StaticResource PhoneFontSizeMediumLarge}"/>
<Setter Property="Background" Value="{StaticResource PhoneTextBoxBrush}"/>
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{StaticResource PhoneTextBoxForegroundBrush}"/>
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{StaticResource PhoneTextBoxBrush}"/>
<Setter Property="SelectionBackground" Value="{StaticResource PhoneAccentBrush}"/>
<Setter Property="SelectionForeground" Value="{StaticResource PhoneTextBoxSelectionForegroundBrush}"/>
<Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="{StaticResource PhoneBorderThickness}"/>
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="2"/>
<Setter Property="Template">

And to apply the style:

How to Style a Button like Application Bar Buttons

I have created a style which works to some extent to what I am looking for, in fact it does actually work. However I need to update the style so that I may use it on several buttons and not just one. Currently I place the button source within the style itself, and I'd like to just be able to apply the style where the button actually exists on the page. This is what I am currently doing, but only works for a single button. Also, this style does not exactly match the default application bar style, which from what I can tell regardless of light or dark theme fills the circle with the device accent color and the icon inside of the button remains white, How might I update my solution for this as well?
<Style x:Key="ButtonStyle1" TargetType="Button">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent"/>

Hi you can use coding4Fun toolkit for this.It has control Rounded button which is similar to appbar button.

Windows Phone 7 Button states

How can we set the different states of a button especially the pressed state. I know that we can set it using expression blend, but still i can't do it.
Also, can we edit the pressed state for custom buttons?
Thanks
As you mentioned, just have Expression Blend generate a copy of the inherited style for you, and then you can modify the states.
Now you can change the layout by modifying the different VisualState Storyboards. If you have a more detailed question on how to do this, then ask that instead of meta-questions!

<Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="{StaticResource PhoneFontFamilySemiBold}"/>
<Setter Property="FontSize" Value="{StaticResource PhoneFontSizeMediumLarge}"/>
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="10,3,10,5"/>
<Setter Property="Template">

Update
To be precise, you need to change the Pressed VisualState, that is this part:
<VisualState x:Name="Pressed">
<Storyboard>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Foreground" Storyboard.TargetName="ContentContainer">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{StaticResource PhoneBackgroundBrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Background" Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBackground">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{StaticResource PhoneForegroundBrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="BorderBrush" Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBackground">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{StaticResource PhoneForegroundBrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
</Storyboard>
</VisualState>
The Storyboard.TargetProperty sets the Property you wish to change, ie. Foreground, Background or the BorderBrush
The DiscreteObjectKeyFrame sets the value (ignore the keytime if you don't want a animation).
Here I've changed the font colour to white, the background to orange, and the borderbrush to purple.
<VisualState x:Name="Pressed">
<Storyboard>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Foreground" Storyboard.TargetName="ContentContainer">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="Orange"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Background" Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBackground">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="White"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="BorderBrush" Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBackground">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="Purple"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
</Storyboard>
</VisualState>
