I have clients uploading files directly to my Dropbox folder. I was curious if I can build a website form that uploads the file to my Dropbox folder and also saves the forms data to my server with a reference to the file that was uploaded to Dropbox? They are legal documents and I don't want to worry about security if Dropbox handles that.
It looks like it should definitely be possible.
You would have to use the dropbox api:
https://www.dropbox.com/developers
https://github.com/dropbox/dropbox-js
There are some javascript examples that would likely be what you would need to go directly to dropbox without going to your server first.

I want to upload files from my server to my users's google drive storage, after they authenticate, the questions are:
Is it possible to do that?
Do I have to re-authenticate the user every time they like to upload a new file?
Could I embed the uploaded MP4 files in my website? (using the html video source as the file's download link of the user's google drive account)
do I need to re-authenticate the user if they just want to see the embedded videos some time later, in other words, is there anyway I could save some sort of a Token so they don't keep doing that.

Yes

No, store a refresh token for the user and they wont need to authenticate each time.

I wouldn't recommend it google drive isn't really designed for hosting of files in this manner that and people would need access to the file to download it anyway, its a big can of worms.

Yes as mentioned if the files are uploaded to your drive account you own them. You would need to share the files with anyone that you want to have access to them. You could set the files to public but thats not the best way to go about this.

Is there a way to download file directly from dropbox without logging in. I find this to be a serious limitation. I want to link a few files from website. Can this be done in dropbox?
I realise this can be done with an api (at least in theory) but I have no idea what the link should look like. Cheers.
If you have a Dropbox shared link for a file that can be accessed publicly, you can download from it programmatically.
You can download directly using the link as documented here:
https://www.dropbox.com/help/desktop-web/force-download
Or, you can use the API via the /2/sharing/get_shared_link_file endpoint:
https://www.dropbox.com/developers/documentation/http/documentation#sharing-get_shared_link_file
I have a form with some upload file fields, and I want to store the files in a Dropbox folder. However, the API always asks you to register before uploading files.
Does anyone knows how to do it without having to go through the authorization page ??
I would like to click upload, and directly upload the file to my repository.
I would like to use the Chooser drop-in to select a file from dropbox and then synchronize my app with that file occasionally in the background.
https://www.dropbox.com/developers/dropins/chooser/js
A scenario would be:
List item
User selects file.
File uploads to my app.
User returns to my app a few days later after modifying the file in dropbox.
My app should synchronize and pull down that particular file (without again displaying the Chooser drop-in).
The problem is that the Chooser provides an expiring link to the file:
"direct" is an expiring link to download the contents of the file
I can use the Core API exclusively which would work, however I would have to build my own UI to browse the user's dropbox directory. Ideally, I'd prefer to not introduce the world to another file browser; Dropbox has a file browser - and people are familiar with it. Is this possible?
Thanks,
You can just get a preview link and convert it. See https://www.dropbox.com/developers/blog/53/programmatically-download-content-from-share-links.
In my application users will give a url to their shared dropbox folder. When it is given I want to grab the images in that url and download to a folder in my application.
Is this achievable?
I've tried to do this in SharpBox. I've managed to open a connection to dropbox storage through SharpBox and successfully connect to my public folders.
But I couldn't find a method which accepts a shared dropbox url and download files from that url.
Thanks
This article might be helpful, don't know enough about the edge cases in your particular use though.
