Windows Phone 8.1 AppBarButton Template not editable - xaml

I am not able to redefine the Template of an AppBarButton inside BottomAppBar in a Windows Phone 8.1 project.
In Visual Studio XAML designer it changes (it shows "button 2" text), but when I deploy it to the phone or to the emulator, the default template is applied.
I tried to right click the control, "Edit template", "Edit a copy...", but it's not available. Is it possible, to redefine this template?

I have Windows 8.1 Pro with Visual Studio Community 2013 Update 4 installed.

No, it is not possible to customize the app bar on Windows Phone 8.1 beyond the foreground and background colors. On Windows Phone the app bar is system UI rather than app as UI.
If you want to customize your app bar buttons you can put them in a custom panel docked at the bottom of the page instead of in a Page.BottomAppBar

You can definitely right click and edit a copy. I just did this recently. Try putting a temporary AppBarButton at the top of your page and right click that one. Here is the default style in case you need it:

The thing is that I can't find a way to pass the icon "Kind" in the xaml so the style can be reusable.

ToggleButton doesn't provide Icon property, so you can't pass Icon property directly.
One workaround is you can use AppBarToggleButton instead.

Another is that you need to write a custom ToggleButton's Content property.

Windows Store App 8.1 - Creating AppBarButton Styles that accept a Path

I'm trying to create a style for an AppBarButton. What I would like to do is change some colours in the pressed state and use a Path as the content.
Since I've had no problem with the colouring. I would like to focus on the using a Path as the content part. Instead of doing something like:

Then I changed all the colours in the above template (which isn't done in this example) and did this:

However this did not work. Nothing shows in the content of the AppBarButton. Furthermore, you might have noticed that the MyAppBarButtonStyle1 is setting the Content property instead of the Icon property. This was because if I try to set the Icon property I get an weird exception when I open the page containing the AppBarButton:
Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. (???...)
Also note that the first piece of code that sets the Icon property to a PathIcon works just fine, trying to move it to a style is where I'm failing.
So can anyone point me in the right direction? How to create AppBarButton styles using a Path as its content?

This is exactly what I was trying to do. The PathBasedAppBarButtonStyle enables me to create styles based on it whilst changing the Path's Data.
I did change the above code slightly:
1) I changed the TargetType to AppBarButton
2) To get the AppBarButtonStyle I copied it from C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Include\winrt\xaml\design\generic.xaml (under )
So now I can do

as long as the MyAppBarButtonStyle1 is a style based on PathBasedAppBarButtonStyle (like the Add-NewAppBarButtonStyle)

Styling TextBox/PasswordBox in XAML

I've been wondering if there is a simpler way to change just one attribute then restyling the whole ControlTemplate in Windows Phone 8.
I recently found myself in need to change PasswordBox's background (the background shown when selected/typing into it) without changing anything else. I know there is the way of recreating the whole ControlTemplate (since it's HUGE for my taste and I'm getting a bit lost in it - I'm a rookie).
Are the other (preferably easier) options how to do it? If so, which?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm creating App that needs to look pretty much the same on Android, iOS and Windows Phone (android & iOS apps are done by someone else, I'm working on WP App and the design is given).
The App needs to look the same regardles of theme chosen by user on his phone.
And since the text is white and in dark theme when writing into TextBox/PasswordBox, the background is also changed to white - the result being you can't see what you're typing.
Is it easier to change "Foreground-when-typing" or "background-when-typing"? How to do it without recreating the whole ControlTemplate?

Unfortunately you can't do anything about the handles on the selection using the accent color though.
I haven't handed disabled or read-only states but they should be simple to change.

How to set textbox background transferent when readonly = true in windows phone 8

I want to set the textbox background is tranfernt when readonly = true i don't want the default color .. can anyone give me solution

Setting IsReadOnly on a TextBox applies certain styles to the TextBox including its Background. You can change these styles by doing the following:
Open your xaml file in Blend from within Visual Studio
In Blend, right click on your TextBox and click on Edit Template-->Edit Copy
In the next dialog, tick Application to define the new style in App.xaml and give your style a name.
Click save and close Blend.
You will see the new style that you just created is in App.xaml. You would want to change the value of Background story board target property under the ReadOnly visual state to whichever color you want.
To apply this new style to any TextBox just add Style="{StaticResource TextBoxStyle1}" to your TextBox where TextBoxStyle1 is the name you assigned to your style.

Then in your text box you simply point to this style:

Another approach is to set the TextBox IsHitTestVisible=false. The field is then also not editable by the user and you can set the background as usual.
By the way, setting a different border color of a disabled textbox can be done application wide programmatically:
(App.Current.Resources["PhoneDisabledBrush"] as SolidColorBrush).Color = Colors.Magenta;
RichTextBox allows a lot of customization and works well for when you want to register events. Note that IsReadOnly is set to true by default for RichTextBox so you do not need to set this property.

XAML Windows 8 app blue border on button hover

I can't seem to find an answer to this. Basically, I have created buttons containing an image. When you hover over the button - a blue border appears currently. I want to create my own hover state on the image, so I don't need the blue border - which is pushing out the spacing. Does anyone know how to remove it?

Open your project under Blend for visual studio (i recommend you to apply the visual studio 2012 update 2 before), select your button and right click -> edit the template -> edit a copy -> create a new local resource.
In the State panel you will see the different possible states of your button (normal, pressed, pointerover, focused...), select for example "PointerOver" and change the Background Brush to transparent (or just remove it).

Each control in Windows Store XAML framework has default set of brushes and style. For example this is styles for Button: Button styles and templates. You always first can try to just change default brushes to something you want. If this will not give you effect which you want to see - you can change default control template on something you want.
