Hope all of you will be fine. Guys i have a situation, I have a uiview and uibutton as under:
UIView* containerView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 200, self.view.frame.size.width, 70)];
containerView.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
[self.view addSubview:containerView];
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
button.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(SettingPressed:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"settings_button.png"];
[button setImage:image forState:UIControlStateHighlighted & UIControlStateNormal & UIControlStateSelected];
button.frame = CGRectMake(0,0, 40, 40);
button.center = containerView.center;
[containerView addSubview:button];
The problem is uibutton appear far from uiview instead of in the middle of uiview. What i am mistaking, please guide me.
Thanks.
First, when you change a view's center property the frame property will be changed automatically so you only should set the button center:
button.center = CGPointMake(containerView.frame.size.width / 2,
containerView.frame.size.height / 2);
Now, whenever you change the center property you need to manually tell the view to redraw itself using setNeedsDisplay :
[button setNeedsDisplay]
and lastly, the difference between frame and bounds that frame defines the position and size relative to the parent view while bounds describes the drawing area inside (or outside) the frame.

I have a UIBarButtonItem that I want hugging the very left of the screen. I've tried putting a fixed barbutton with width=0 before the button and other configurations but there's always several pixels between the button and x=0.
I've also tried changing the imageInset of the UIButton
UIButton *moreButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
moreButton.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 60, 35);
[moreButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"Morebutton"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
moreButton.imageEdgeInsets = UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, -8, 0, 8);
[moreButton addTarget:self action:#selector(pressedMoreButton:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIBarButtonItem *moreBar = [[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:moreButton] autorelease];
But tapping near the edge of the screen doesn't trigger the selector (probably because only the image is moved but not the button itself) and increasing the size of the button doesn't affect the gap between the button and the left side.
Thanks
try to put your button to the container view and change position of button on the view.
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[button setBackgroundImage:buttonImage forState:UIControlStateNormal];
button.contentMode = UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit;
button.frame= CGRectMake(-4.0, 0.0, 30, 30);
[button addTarget:target action:action forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
UIView *v=[[[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, cellTextSize.width+10, buttonImage.size.height)] autorelease];
v.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
[v addSubview:button];
return [[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:v] autorelease];
I am using a UINavigationController and its bar within my app.
Now I want to change the leftBarButtonItem and rightBarButtonItem positions.
I want them to be on a different x and y position having a custom witdth and height.
But the problem is, that changing the frame does not change anything with the barButtonItem. I do not now why, but the frame always gets resetted to its original coordinates.
Here is my code which I call in viewWillAppear:
UINavigationItem *navItem = [[self.navigationBar items] lastObject];
UIView *rightview = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,66,30)];
rightview.backgroundColor = [UIColor blueColor];
//add custom view
UIBarButtonItem *search = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:rightview];
navItem.leftBarButtonItem = search;
The view is not starting at 0/0, the x position for example is at 5px insetead of 0.
Any suggestions on how to solve this issue?
This worked for me for the leftBarButtonItem:
If you want the UIBarButtonItem to show exactly at position (0, 0), you can create a UIButton, sets its frame to (-5, 0, width, height), assuming that the offet of a left barbutton item is (5, 0), and place that in a UIView that you set as leftBarButtonItem.
#import "UINavigationItem+CSAButtons.h"
#implementation UINavigationItem (CSAButtons)
- (void) makeLeftBarButtonWithTarget:(id)target action:(SEL)action {
UIImage * imageNormal = [UIImage imageNamed:#"normal.png"];
UIImage * imageHighlighted = [UIImage imageNamed:#"highlighted.png"];
UIImage * imageDisabled = [UIImage imageNamed:#"disabled.png"];
// create your button
UIButton * button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
button.exclusiveTouch = YES;
[button addTarget:target action:action forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[button setBackgroundImage:imageNormal forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button setBackgroundImage:imageHighlighted forState:UIControlStateHighlighted];
[button setBackgroundImage:imageDisabled forState:UIControlStateDisabled];
// set the frame of the button (better to grab actual offset of leftbarbuttonitem instead of magic numbers)
button.frame = CGRectMake(-5.0, 0.0, imageNormal.size.width, imageNormal.size.height);
UIView * view = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, imageNormal.size.width, imageNormal.size.height)];
[view addSubview:button];
// set the barbuttonitem to be the view
UIBarButtonItem * barButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:view];
self.leftBarButtonItem = barButtonItem;
}
I dont think you have the ability to move a UIBarButtonItem but you might be able to achieve the same effect by adding that UIView element as a subview to the navigationBar (or navItem). You'll need to play with it a bit. It should allow for much more flexibility.
hope this helps.
I have created a custom UINavigationBar which is a tiny bit taller than Apples default navigation bar.
I can’t seem to find a way to move the UIBarButtonItem down to be directly centered between the two dashed lines.
Is there an easy way to do this? I’ve tried creating a custom button but had no success. Ideally I would just like to move the default back button down a couple of pixels.
Code used to create UINavigationBar, custom header image and UIBarButtonItem:
//Create image for navigation background
UIImage *NavigationPortraitBackground = [[UIImage imageNamed:#"navbackground.png"]
resizableImageWithCapInsets:UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, 0, 0, 0)];
[[UINavigationBar appearance] setBackgroundImage: NavigationPortraitBackground
forBarMetrics:UIBarMetricsDefault];
//Centered title image
UIImageView *headerImage = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage: [UIImage imageNamed: #"hometitle.png"]];
[headerImage setFrame: CGRectMake(0, 0, 180, 49)];
self.navigationItem.titleView = headerImage;
UIBarButtonItem *backBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] init];
[backBarButtonItem setTintColor: [UIColor colorWithRed:0 green:69.0/255 blue:118.0/255 alpha:1]];
[backBarButtonItem setStyle: UIBarButtonItemStylePlain];
self.navigationItem.backBarButtonItem = backBarButtonItem;
[backBarButtonItem release];
Thanks in advance,
Create the UIBarButtonItem using a custom view. This custom view will be a UIView with the actual UIButton (as a subview) placed x pixels from the top (x=the number of pixels you want to move it down).
sorry
UIButton *myButton1 = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[myButton1 setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"back.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; myButton1.showsTouchWhenHighlighted = YES;
myButton1.frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 3.0, 50,30);
[myButton1 addTarget:self action:#selector(back) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; UIBarButtonItem *leftButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithCustomView:myButton1];
self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem = leftButton;
How do I align the table cell button to the left instead of the right? Below is the code I am using to create the UIButton. Thanks.
cell.accessoryView = [self getButton: #"icon.png"];
...
- (UIButton*)getButton: (NSString*)icon {
UIImage *image = (true) ? [UIImage imageNamed:icon] : [UIImage imageNamed:icon];
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
CGRect frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, image.size.width, image.size.height);
button.frame = frame;
[button setBackgroundImage:image forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(checkButtonTapped:event:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
button.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
return button;
}
You are adding the button as an accessory view, which cannot be put on the left. See this question, it is almost exactly the same:
iOS UITableViewCell accessory on the left side?
Then you can muck with the frame of the button.
UIButton *cellButton = [self getButton:#"icon.png"];
[cell.contentView addSubview:cellButton];
UILabel *myLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(10, 10, 180, 180)];
myLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor greenColor];
[self.view addSubview:myLabel];
UIButton *myButton = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
[self addTarget:self action:#selector(show) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchDown];
myButton.frame = CGRectMake(80.0, 120.0, 30, 30);
myButton.showsTouchWhenHighlighted = YES;
[self addSubview:myButton];
in this way the button works(call show:), but use [myLabel addSubview:myButton]; the button doesn't work. not sure why?

UILabel by default doesn't handle any events. You need to set the userInteractionEnabled property of the label to YES.
Also you'd better not add a UIButton on the top of a UILabel.

A button shouldn't be a subview of a label anyway, it's illogical. Make both of them subviews of a UIView.
