I am getting "Could not reserve enough space for object heap" error when I am trying to start hybris server.
I have set
wrapper.java.additional.1=-Xmx1G
wrapper.java.additional.2=-XX:MaxPermSize=1024M
My machine is 64 bit 8GB RAM Windows
I faced the same problem once, The problem in my case was that too many other Applications were running on my system.
So go to the task manager and check the memory available use.
Close some applications and try running.
Also if you are using eclipse Then, In your eclipse.ini file (this is beside the eclipse executable), replace -Xmx256m with -Xmx1024m (or Xmx512m).
This is not compulsory but in certain cases it works.
If you are using some extension then,
Open YOURPATH/config/local.properties file.
Add the following entry:
config/local.properties
build.parallel=true
Save the file.
(In cases where we have multiple cores in the machine, we can tell hybris to utilize these by building in parallel and in certain cases this too works)
I too faced the same probelm. I followed below steps and set the max heap size to 1GB.
Add the following content to local.properties
tomcat.generaloptions=-Xmx4G -ea -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=false -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false -Dorg.tanukisoftware.wrapper.WrapperManager.mbean=true -Djava.endorsed.dirs="%CATALINA_HOME%/lib/endorsed" -Dcatalina.base=%CATALINA_BASE% -Dcatalina.home=%CATALINA_HOME% -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -Dlog4j.configuration=log4j_init_tomcat.properties -Djava.util.logging.config.file=jdk_logging.properties -Djava.io.tmpdir="${HYBRIS_TEMP_DIR}"
ant clean all
start hybrisserver

Running GraphDB on windows.
I right clicked the icon, clicked settings. Tried to set Xmx512Mb, (so I mistyped, should have been Xmx512M). Now trying to run GraphDB says "Failed to create JVM", even after uninstalling and re installing.
Where can I find and undo what I typed in the settings if the UI is not starting up?
In other words, where is this configuration stored?
I removed AppData/Roaming/GraphDB and AppData/Local/GraphDB Free
Just to generalize it, If you set an invalid Java option parameter, GraphDB Free may fail to start after the application restart. The only way to solve this problem is to remove the invalid line from the file:
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\com.ontotext.graphdb.free\packager\jvmuserargs.cfg (Windows)
~/Library/Application Support/com.ontotext.graphdb.free/packager/jvmuserargs.cfg (Mac OS)
~/.local/com.ontotext.graphdb.free/packager/jvmuserargs.cfg (Linux).
In addition to Damyan's answer there is a GraphDB Free.cfg file in C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\GraphDB Free\app\ which you can edit.
I'm running Sql Workbench/J and keep running out of memory on a heavy query. (on MAC osx)
I just need to fetch this data once in a blue moon and would like to increase the available memory.
The exact error I get is:
I found a solution when running from terminal which is to use the command below, but I would like to have one from the Sql Workbench application itself:
java -Xmx4g -jar sqlworkbench.jar
Disclaimer: I am not a Mac user.
The memory setting that is used for the MacOS launcher is stored in the file Info.plist which should be inside the sub-folder Contents of the SQL Workbench/J "app" folder (not sure how this is called).
There is already an entry with -Xmx2048m present that you can change.
I'm receiving AttachNotSupportedException when trying to start a JFR recording.
It was working normally, until now.
jcmd 3658 JFR.start maxsize=100M filename=jfr_1.jfr dumponexit=true settings=profile
Output:
3658:
com.sun.tools.attach.AttachNotSupportedException: Unable to open socket file: target process not responding or HotSpot VM not loaded

What might be happening?
SO: Oracle Linux Server release 6.7
$ java -version
java version "1.8.0_102"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_102-b14)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.102-b14, mixed mode)
One of the probable reasons is that /tmp/.java_pid1234 file has been deleted (where 1234 is PID of a Java process).
Tools that depend on Dynamic Attach Mechanism (jstack, jmap, jcmd, jinfo) communicate to JVM through a UNIX domain socket created at /tmp.
This socket is created by JVM lazily on the first attach attempt or eagerly at JVM initialization if -XX:+StartAttachListener flag is specified.
Once the file corresponding to the socket is deleted, tools cannot connect to the target process, and unfortunately there is no way to re-create communication socket without restarting JVM.
For the description of Dynamic Attach Mechanism see this answer.
With personal experience... This problem also occurs in scenarios where the development environment is divided into partitions, and the partition where the operating system is located is different from the operating system partition. Example, operating system partition is EXT4 and the development environment partition is NTFS (where the JVM is). Problem occurs because you can not create a file "/tmp/.java_pid6024" (where 6024 is the PID of the java process).
To troubleshoot add -XX: + StartAttachListener at the start of the JVM, or application server.
Another possibility: your app is running under systemd with 'PrivateTmp=yes'. This prevents the /tmp/.java_pid1234 file from being found.
I can run java from command line, but when trying to run with Intellij I get this error msg.
Error:Abnormal build process termination:
Picked up _JAVA_OPTIONS: "-Xmx6144m"
Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx6144m
The specified size exceeds the maximum representable size.
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
Why is -Xmx6144m invalid?
It works fine in command line...
$>javac -version
Picked up _JAVA_OPTIONS: "-Xmx6144m"
javac 1.8.0_71
The JDK configured for your project in IntelliJ IDEA is different from the one that is specified by the JAVA_HOME environment variable in your shell. You can open the Project Structure dialog and select the correct JDK for your project. (To use -Xmx6144m, it needs to be a 64-bit JDK.)
I am running IntelliJ version 13.1.3, on a 32 bit windows machine.
The JVM version is 1.7.
When running even simple tests, the following error is thrown:
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx4g
The specified size exceeds the maximum representable size.
Process finished with exit code 1
Can anyone assist?
Thanks
Pycharm that stands on the intellij has the jvm configuration file with this name:
pycharm.exe.vmoptions
Maybe you can find similar file in the binary path of intellij to change the jvm heap properties.
Comment from Engineer Dollery is correct. I found this in my POM file. I just commented out and the then I was able to run the test.
<!--<argLine>-Xms128m -Xmx4096m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m</argLine>-->
Go to file.
Select Project Structure.
Choose Project Settings then Select Project
There You can see Project language level
Just put it back to 8.
Project language level is changed in new update of InteliJ update thats why This error Occurs
Now just try to run your Code.
