I cannot connect to my beaglebone black via ssh or usb,
I could connect via ssh/ethernet before I edited a file, and rebooted.
I thnink the file I changed was uEnv.txt and I think I commented out the line about HDMI
Any ideas? do i just need to reinstall the debian OS? via the memory card?
thanks for your help.
If it really was the uEnv.tx-file you don't need to reflash your img.
You can edit the uEnv.txt file again (easly with the plugged USB and explorer). If you comment things out in this file, the driver can't work properly. If you can tell me your img version (that's very usefull if you write it by every question down) I can show you the unmodified uEnv file.
You can easy also google that file.
An alternative way is to reflash the img. Recommendable for new BBB / Linux users. The img an guide is available at beaglebone.org
I hope I answered your question, otherwise write again!

I am trying to set up Tinker Board headlessly as I don't have access to a wired keyboard and mouse.
One method I know that works for Raspi is by creating an SSH file while setting it up and a wpa_supplicant.conf file to provide wifi details. I have flashed the latest Tinker OS v2.2.9 onto the eMMC present on the board as per the instructions. But, in this case I am not able to access the drive once flashed (Contrary to raspi setup).
Is there a way to set it up headlessly?
Thank you for taking out time to read this and helping out.
I recently bought a 3G dongle for a project I'm working on. I want my Raspberry Pi to be able to receive SMS messages and respond to them. I got a HSDPA 3g dongle with a 7.2mbps connection. I've set up the dongle on Windows with an A1 (not sure if you guys know this provider) sim and it works fine. I can connect to the internet just fine and also receive text messages (SMS)
However when I try connecting it to my Raspberry Pi (with Raspbian OS) then it doesn't work. It's always show as a "Mass Storage Device".
I tried my luck with usb_modeswitch and wvdial and with Sakis3g as well, but I can't get it to work. My problem with usb_modeswitch and wvdial was that even after I tried everything explained on these 2 blog posts (https://www.thefanclub.co.za/how-to/how-setup-usb-3g-modem-raspberry-pi-using-usbmodeswitch-and-wvdial ; https://nicovddussen.wordpress.com/2014/11/12/setting-up-your-raspberry-pi-to-work-with-a-3g-dongle/) it still didn't switch to the modem mode. It always stays at the "Mass Storage Mode". I saw an alternative and tried using Sakis3G, but with no luck as well. Seems like their website (sakis3g.org / sakis3g.com) is offline and you can't download certain .tar.gz folders/files anymore. I tried my luck with this blog post. (https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2012/07/3g-internet-on-raspberry-pi-success/)
And you guessed it, I couldn't get it to work either. It doesn't let me download the .gz folder/file because the website appears to be down.
It's a very big problem for my project and I would appreciate any help. It's really important. If anyone knows what I can do to fix this, please offer help. I'd really appreciate it.
Greetings.
Trying using tips supplied in this article
Unplug your modem
Open a terminal prompt
Install the usb-modeswitch package by typing in:
sudo apt-get install usb-modeswitch
EDIT... ADD REBOOT STEP
Reboot Pi
Plug the modem in,
Give it a couple of seconds and then try commands to confirm it worked
lsusb
ifconfig -a
You should see a new interface (Note the name of it - might be something like wwan0 )
To get this to acquire an IP address, edit the file /etc/network/interfaces and add the lines:
allow-hotplug wwan0
iface wwan0 inet dhcp
EDIT - REBOOT AGAIN
........
EDIT - UPDATE
Also note that the full version of sakis3G has this usb-modeswitch embedded in it.
You can still download code and look at instructions at old site that's been archived at:
http://web.archive.org/web/20130511202305/http://www.sakis3g.org/#download
I have raspberry pi 3. And I can't even update it because when I do the update screen is held at archive.raspberrypi.org. I tried to open it in browser, the site is down. What should I do?
And yeah it is perfectly online.
temporarily disabling ipv6 solved my issue (temporarily)
apt -o Acquire::ForceIPv4=true update
From my point, the site is online. Are you sure your Raspberry is connected to the internet?
Also http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/archive.raspberrypi.org says it is online.
Edit:
Check your /etc/hosts file for entries which change the location of the Domain in question.
Check the storage of your sd card. If you have a lot of information on it, it might slow down or stop working. If you have a lot of information, you have 2 options:
Remove unwanted information
Install a fresh OS image on it
I have to use an existing project in STEP7/TIA PORTAL v11 and I have the PLC (CPU 1212C AC/DC/RLY) with the code downloaded inside it which is connected to a touch panel (KTP600 Basic Color PN).
What I want is to download the code from the PLC to my computer to try to modify it, is this posible?
Because I've tried to connect it to my PC and it doesn't detect it. It turns on the ERROR and the MAINT leds in red.
The configuration is over a virtual machine (VMware player with Windows 7) because my PC has Windows 8 installed and it doesn't support TIA PORTAL is there any problem with this?
If program was uploaded with TIA11 it is not good idea to use v13. What is more with other version you need new licence keys.
From your vm ping the plc address if itis in right subnet. Then serch for sccessible nodes. On your picture i see that you should try using 'search all accessible devices'.
Upgrade to version 13 of TIA Portal. This version can run under Windows 8.
Under VMWare you have to change the network settings for your Virtual Machine to bridged. Also install VMWware Tools.
Those are some steps that I would try.
make sure you can ping it from inside your Virtual Machine. It will validate the route to the plc (cable, network config). It’s not a necessary step to connect to a plc, but it’s a good check.
Go to Control Panel on Windows, then PG/PC , then make sure that you have the right Hardware Interface Active
If you still not able to see the PLC, I advise you to to download PRONETA, if it still doesn’t show up there, then the research would have to go deeper. Until today, I’ve only one time in all year when a device have not apeares in Proneta.
I have this strange problem in an embedded system (linux) we build, so I don't have normal GUI trouble-shooting tools on Linux or Windows machines.
The problem is the NIC is no longer usable after cable removed. Even if I re-plug the cable, the lights on it never come back on again and nothing can be sent or received. ifconfig still works on the surface, but doesn't have real effect. Only a reboot will solve the problem. I guess the problem is in the ethernet driver.
My question is how the trouble-shoot it. Any clues/hints? Thanks.
====================
Thank you guys! The board is a gumstix and the PHY is SMSC911x. We are running on Linux 3.0.12. It turns out the smsc911x_soft_reset() of the NIC fails when driver calls smsc911x_open(). The symptom also includes we must run ifconfig multiple times (not consistent) to bring the NIC up and the system can detect it.
I did a search on "SMSC911x soft reset failed" and find this link. http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.network/216467. I removed SMSC_PHY=y in the linux build config file and that fixed the problem. It seems the driver is not compatible. Can somebody explain this, or is there a better solution?
