In my daily routines I frequently need to add a couple of folder and files. For example when I am creating a maven module, I have to add a pom file, src/main/java folders with a source file. This process is really cumbersome. Is there any easy way to adding parameterised folders and files in project as file templates?
This feature is available for complete modules: you can do Tools | Save Project as Template... to save a directory structure as a template, and then select that template in the File | New Module... dialog.
For pieces of code which are smaller than a module, unfortunately no equivalent feature is available. You can write your own plugin to create the necessary structure for you.

When importing project, we need choose Project format as .ipr (file based).

Project Files shows the exact file structure as your git repo.
So I created an empty project, but when I create a new directory in the Project window, it does not show up. The directory is actually created, and if I navigate to the Project Files list I can see it there, but as far as I can tell there is no way to make even my src folder part of the actual project. This creates all kinds of problems when I have to move/refactor files, and I'm amazed that something so common and simple is so difficult.
You've created a folder, not a package. If ur using maven or grade, can I suggest u use them to generate an intelij project for you. The command escapes me but a quick Google should tell you

I am fairly new to NetSuite and NetSuite scripting. My company has several dozen script files already in the NetSuite File Cabinet, under the default SuiteScripts folder. Also, I am using the SuiteCloud IDE, which is just basically Eclipse with a NetSuite plugin. This way I can download all of the scripts into a single SuiteCloud IDE project, work on them locally, and then upload them back to the server for testing.
When you create a new NetSuite project, one of the project settings is File Cabinet Folder. This defaults to a subdirectory under "SuiteScripts" with the same name as your project. For example, if your project is called "MyScripts", the default will be SuiteScripts/MyScripts. You can of course change this, but it is impossible to just specify the SuiteScripts folder alone, as I get an error saying "File Cabinet folder must have 2 segments." However, the existing scripts all live under SuiteScripts (no subdirectory). Any file that I upload to the server, whether it be a new file that I created locally or even a previously downloaded file that already exists in the File Cabinet, will end up in SuiteScripts/MyScripts. This can be hugely problematic, causing dupes and all kinds of other nastiness. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.
Yes, NetSuite has decided to limit the uploading functionality to subfolders of SuiteScripts. If I had to guess, their intention there is to force you to place your scripting projects in their own folders so that the SuiteScripts folder itself does not get cluttered with scripts.
You can specify a subfolder of SuiteScripts with any name; it does not have to be the name of your Eclipse project. You have a couple options, depending on how you want your files to be organized in Eclipse and in the File Cabinet.
The way we typically do it is to create a single folder that will house all of our scripts, call it SuiteScripts/Projects/. In the file cabinet, we create this Projects folder under SuiteScripts. In Eclipse's NetSuite Project Settings, we map our Eclipse project to SuiteScripts/Projects. In our Eclipse project, we group related source files logically into folders, like iPad Integration or Approval Process. Then we upload to the File Cabinet, and now we have a nice folder structure of organized scripts, something like:
SuiteScripts
Projects
iPad Application
iPadScript.js
iPadRESTlet.js
Approval Process
SalesOrderApproval.js
PurchaseOrderApproval.js
We have much more detailed naming standards for our files, but you get the picture.
My recommendation is to create a new folder in your SuiteScripts folder and move all existing scripts into there using the File Cabinet's "Move" button. Then, map your SuiteCloud Project to that new folder and upload/download as needed.
I agree with the erictgrubaugh's solution and I've been following stoic software's tutorials. But steavepoll if you want to change it for only one script then you can follow these steps:
Create new SuiteCloud Project under the same folder which you are targeting
Edit into mainfest.xml file(right click->NetSuite->Add Dependency References to Manifest)
Validate Project against Account
Deploy

At my work every project ha have two parts:
1. The project itself;
2. A external folder containing the JS, images and css.
We have an automated process that deploys this parts where they have to be. The first one at Weblogic and the second at Tomcat.
What I want to know is if there is a way to include this external folder with the application statics to the IntelliJ so I can edit them inside the IDE.
Now I'm editing the JS and CSS inside Notepad. And it is very annoying.
You can create another project via File -> Import Project, locate the folder of your static resources, then choose "Create project from existing resources".
You will end up with two projects but it should be easy to toggle between the two.
Recently set up a multi module project in IntelliJ with the following structure:
/module1
/module2
/web-module
/sql
/lib
/a few more folders
I set up module1+2 and web-module as modules in IntelliJ so those show up, but how do you make the sql and lib folder show up in the project panel? They should be included in VCS as well, but IntelliJ ignores them. How do you add folders outside modules to a project?

This is not a strict answer to the question, but it worked for me so I'm posting, perhaps someone will find this useful.
If you want to add an arbitrary folder to your project (even from some different location than your projects), just add it as a module. You needn't worry about the type so much e.g. I needed to add a folder with some SQL scripts, I added it as a Java module and it's nicely visible in IntelliJ even though it has no maven structure or Java sources.
This is how to do it:
File > Project Structure > Modules
Add > New Module > ... (e.g. Java Module)
In the new module settings mark the subfolders that you want to see as 'Sources'

This is something that I typically see when creating a project from existing modules. All the modules will show in the project but not the other project related directories. These directories might be, configuration files, environment scripts or bundles of SQL scripts that don't fit neatly into an Intellij module type.
To show the rest of the project source files and directories, I create a parent module from the project root.
File->Project Structure->Modules
Create a new module using the + sign. The new module could be any type (I use java).
On the Next screen set the Content root and Module file location to the Project's root folder.
Select Finish
All of your other modules should now be submodules of the root, and your other project files should now show up.
Add and remove content roots
To add a new content root:
Go to File | Project Structure, or press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S.
Select Modules under the Project Settings section.
Select the necessary module, and then open the Sources tab in the right-hand part of the dialog.
Click Add Content Root.
Specify the folder that you want to add as a new content root, and click OK.

I used File -> New -> Module from Existing Sources...
Then I simply select the folder and add it.
In Project view mode all directories (except the ignored ones from the settings) should show up. Of course the base folder for your multi-project has to be the folder above module1.
EDIT:
Your project should look like this (project view tree):
MY_PROJECT_ROOT (~/the/folder/to/your/project)
|- /module1
|- /module2
|- /web-module
And in this case, you should definitely see the other folders. I got a sample project set up where this is working.
EDIT 2:
From your screenshot, I assume you are missing the root directory (the project root is not as you expected). I added another screenshot. There should be a single root folder for your 3 modules. This one is missing at your screenshot. You have 3 separate folders with no common root folder. On MacOs, the project root is displayed in the window title. In my case it points to ~/devel/sandbox.
I guess you should try to create a new project in for that trunk folder. From the scratch. Then add the existing modules and you should be fine?!
