I'm trying to create a custom release burnup app for my group. There is an existing app called 'Release Burnup' in Rally, and based on the instructions for rally-app-builder I thought I would be able to clone this app as a starting point.
However, when I use the rally-app-builder clone RallyApps ReleaseBurnup command, it doesn't seem to do anything except change the title in the output html files to "Son of ReleaseBurnup". When I tried the same thing with the example from the github page (which uses rally-app-builder clone RallyApps StoryBoard) then it seems to be successfully cloning an app, with updates to the App.js file, etc.
I'm guessing that I might be using the wrong name to clone, but I'm not sure how to know what names are valid for this command to clone the app I want.
Unfortunately rally-app-builder clone functionality predates newer developments and the availability of source code of catalog apps from RallyApps/app-catalog, so it does not support drilling down those directories.
clone RallyApps StoryBoard works because there is a StoryBoard app at that location. There is no ReleaseBurnup there. ReleaseBurnup code is not available.
Here are the steps to build an app from javascript source files from GitHub app-catalog repository
Prerequisites:
Node.js
rally-app-builder
Get the source to a local directory (you may either fork the
app-catalog repo, or download zip from the same location):
in terminal, cd to the directory of the app you want to work on, and call this command:
rally-app-builder build.
As a result a deploy folder is created with App.html and
App-uncompressed.html inside, and App-debug.html is created in the
root folder of the app.
These steps make sense only if you intent to customize the catalog app and want to use the source as basis. If you want to use a catalog app as it was designed, install the app directly from the AppCatalog as described in this help document.

What you generate (binary files which can be big) should not be versioned/pushed to GitHub.
It is better to use a local plugin which will, on GitHub side, build, tag and publish a release associated to your project.
For instance: semantic-release/github.
You can combine that with a GitHub Action, which can take that release, and deploy it on a remote server of your choice (provided it is publicly accessible from GitHub): see for example "How to deploy your VueJS using Github Actions (on Firebase Hosting)" from John Kilonzi.
For your existing dist, you should delete it (from Git only, not your disk) and add it to your .gitignore:

What happens if I add a node module( like if I decide to add an image cropper). How can the other contributers deal with that?
You need to add the declaration of that module in your project, not version the module itself. For instance, using Vue.use.
Also: I host the app on netlify. It builds the site straight from github. But it wont be able to build the site if gihub doesnt have the dist folder...

You should add a .gitignore file to the root of your directory where you can ignore files and directories.
Most typical ones to ignore are the following:
node_modules
/dist
.env
.vscode
I have created a vue-cli project.
After I run build it, it works in the http-server. I'd like to push it to my github.io, and I build it as what I found on the Internet. However, at https://tsunaou.github.io/VueJiaogaiFront/dist/index.html I can only see a blank page and it show like this,nothing in the div whose id is app.

It looks like you're building Github Pages from master. To make this work you'll either need to build into a directory called docs (instead of dist) and change the settings on your repo to point to docs, or move the built files up to the project root.

Let's say I initialize a project under react-native init <filename>, installed a bunch of node packages, and added code.
Then separately I initialize a different project under react-viro init <filename>, installed a bunch of node packages, and added code.
If I wanted to combine what I created under react-native init into what I created under react-viro init, is it as simple as copying files over and reinstalling missing node packages into the react-viro project?
Assuming you are working in the ./src folder, every file is independent of iOS or Android as part of the JavaScript bundle.
You can simply copy the .js files over and install the node packages in that project.
You probably should not copy any files that are outside the ./src folder, but I also suspect you wouldn't need to. Files in the Android and iOS folders are rarely touched as they contain operating system config settings and custom modules that you would have wrote in the native languages.
If the file renders JSX, you will be safe to just copy it over and hook it back up.
To state it another way, go into the folder that has node_modules in it. You shouldn't copy anything that is in that folder except additional files that you created. This is where people normally create an src folder and place all their JavaScript. You probably have an index file in there that points to ./src/app.js or you may have an index.ios.js and index.android.js that both point to a ./src/app.js. Anything inside src is safe.
That's my best answer without seeing your folders and files.
If you intend to copy code from one react native project to another, make sure the code you intend to copy is JS and not any native files. Make sure you do register the correct component using AppRegistry. Rest assured you can copy the code from one project to another.
Assuming you have a project at folder

Copy my-project and paste it at your desired folder like
/new-my-project
Change git origin

Open /new-my-project/android in Android Studio, and then rename app/java/com.myproject to com.newmyproject
Go to app/build.grade and change com.myproject to com.newmyproject and sync
Create firebase project and download google-services.json file and add to new-my-project/android/app
Build application, then test application under metro bundler
npx react-native start
Create keystore, test notifications, change base_url_api, test apk etc Android finish now, iOS
Update pods on new-my-project/ios
pod install && pod update
open myproject.xcworkspace
Change bundle identifier to org.reactjs.native.newmyproject, version to 1.0, build to 1 and desired Display name. Let it index completely
Setup in firbase and replace GoogleService-Info.Plist file and Clean build folder in xcode
Go to developer.apple.com and create identifiers, APNS certificates, profiles
Download certificates from keychain and upload to firebase
Build the project in simulator/device and test it.

I'm using a .gitignore file that was recommended for use with CodenameOne projects (See the blog post) and have committed my project to GitHub. Now I want to retrieve that project to a new PC and continue working on it but I'm having endless troubles doing it.
Shai shared a "quick trick" workaround which involves creating a new project then copying the relevant files from a clone of the Git into it, but then it's not a proper clone of the github repo that can be worked on and then synced back up to the remote.
So what I'm asking is: what steps (and troubleshooting resouces) would I use to ensure that:
I am storing the right files to the GitHub Repo to enable success
The IntelliJ Project will work with the retrieved files
I can commit changes back to the Repo going forwards.
Sorry, I'm a bit new to juggling GitHub repos and CN1's plugin structure for Idea has me mystified (I tried merging a new project with a directory which has a clone of the GitHub repo and the CN1 plugin is disabled - can't click on it)
I resorted to using the following .gitignore (using Codepoint One with IntelliJ IDEA):

With this setting, most of the IntelliJ configs are committed, as well as some binaries: CodeNameOneBuildClient.jar, JavaSE.jar, lib/CLDC11.jar, lib/CodenameOne.jar, lib/CodenameOne_SRC.zip.
This is not optimal (the binaries don't really belong in Git and take about 40 MB combined). But this way I can clone the project on a different machine and start working right away. It also doesn't produce Git diffs on every build — but only if the libs are updated.
IntelliJ/IDEA Codename One projects are nearly identical to NetBeans Codename One project with the one major difference being the additional idea directory. Just copy that directory from a working intelliJ project and add it to the gitignore. The project should work.
I'm looking for a way to control versions of my project through IntelliJ. However, I know Git can manage it the best way and I already did started experiencing Git with the help of Madara Uchiha's Git tutorial. I must say it is incredibly useful, but I rather have version control arranged on my harddrive which is constantly backed up.
I decided doing my version control manually and it's pretty slow and annoying. Is there an easier and more efficient way to clone the current project files in another folder?
For example, clone the current project files on another folder named v1.4.2 outside my project structure without relocating my project files, also having them refactored as project on its own so they be runnable whenever.
Set up a local Git repository for the project. It will start with a master branch. Then create a working branch that you make your changes in. You can merge this branch back in to master as you are ready. You can create as many branches as you need and switch between them very quickly. All using the one directory.
If you are new to git you can use something like Sourcetree - (a GUI for Git) it will allow you to manage the repository. It makes it really fast to switch between branches of your repository. It also helps with pushing changes to another location. GitHub, Bitbucket, etc.
For backup, you could always set up the project on Bitbucket. You can create public and private repositories for free. I really recommend setting this part up.
Depending on the environment that you are building on, you could build a shell script / batch script that would copy files to the duplicate location. Without knowing what type of project you are developing in/for it is hard to say what would be the best strategy.
Ideally if your project has a build output you could have the compiler/IntelliJ IDEA place the results into your result folder. You could then copy the results to your Builds/v1.4.2 folder or wherever. Whether you check in the files that are built will depend on your project. You can always exclude files/folders like your ../Builds that you don't want to track via your .gitignore file.
