I've been used to quickly uploading a CSV file to append data to an existing table in BigQuery.
I've made the new table name the same as the existing table, and I've then had options to overwrite or append data to the existing table.
This seems to have changed in the past few days and there is a new BigQuery console UI.
When I try and create a new table from a CSV file upload, under the table name field it currently says:
Unicode letters, marks, numbers, connectors, dashes or spaces allowed.
The job will create the specified destination table if needed, or the
table must be empty if it already exists.
However, when I try and create a table with the same name as an existing table (even though the existing table is empty), I get a red warning saying:
Table already exists
Does anyone know if this feature has now been removed or how to easily append data?
The long way round is to upload a CSV to a new table, then query the new table and set the destination to append or overwrite an existing table. Not ideal, particulalry having to define a new table schema.
In order to append a CSV file to an existing BigQuery table when using the Console, please follow the instructions below:
In the Explorer panel, expand your project and select a dataset.
Expand the Actions option and click Open.
In the details panel, click Create table.
On the Create table page, in the Source section:
For Create table from, select Upload.
Browse file from system
On the Create table page, in the Destination section:
For Dataset name, choose the appropriate dataset.
In the Schema section, for Auto detect, check Schema and input parameters to enable schema auto detection. Alternatively, you can manually enter the schema definition
Click Advanced options.
For Write preference, choose Append to table

I want to get a backup of a single table with its data from a database in SQL Server using a script.
How can I do that?
SELECT * INTO mytable_backup FROM mytable
This makes a copy of table mytable, and every row in it, called mytable_backup. It will not copy any indices, constraints, etc., just the structure and data.
Note that this will not work if you have an existing table named mytable_backup, so if you want to use this code regularly (for example, to backup daily or monthly), you'll need to run drop mytable_backup first.
You can use the "Generate script for database objects" feature on SSMS.
Right click on the target database
Select Tasks > Generate Scripts
Choose desired table or specific object
Hit the Advanced button
Under General, choose value on the Types of data to script. You can select Data only, Schema only, and Schema and data. Schema and data includes both table creation and actual data on the generated script.
Click Next until wizard is done

You can create table script along with its data using following steps:
Right click on the database.
Select Tasks > Generate scripts ...
Click next.
Click next.
In Table/View Options, set Script Data to True; then click next.
Select the Tables checkbox and click next.
Select your table name and click next.
Click next until the wizard is done.

Put the table in its own filegroup. You can then use regular SQL Server built in backup to backup the filegroup in which in effect backs up the table.

Another approach you can take if you need to back up a single table out of multiple tables in a database is:
Generate script of specific table(s) from a database (Right-click database, click Task > Generate Scripts...
Run the script in the query editor. You must change/add the first line (USE DatabaseName) in the script to a new database, to avoid getting the "Database already exists" error.
Right-click on the newly created database, and click on Task > Back Up...
The backup will contain the selected table(s) from the original database.
To get a copy in a file on the local file-system, this rickety utility from the Windows start button menu worked:

You have to recreate your table, the easiest way for me is doing the following in Management studio.
1.- Select you existing table, right click,
2.- Select "Script table as"
3.- Select "Drop and Create To"
4.- Select "new query windows"
One new query windows will be shown and you can change your data type and run the script, this will drop your existing table and create the new one with the new data type (all your existing data will be deleted"

If you are looking for a simple GUI method, you can connect to a db, right click on "Tables", "import data..." and use the Data Import Wizard.
Select the correct options (csv/delimited, tableName, cloumnsToImport...) and click "Finish".

If you have SSMS;
Right click on your database
Generate scripts
Change radio button to Select specific database objects
Check the tables box
Select your table
Next
Set the filename etc
Click on Advanced button
Change the Types of data to script setting to Schema and data
Click next to finish
