Capturing output messages during flyway migration - migration

I would like to capture the messages logged by SQLServerDbSupport and DBMigrate during a migration. Calling flyway.migrate does the migration, but it is not always obvious what actions were applied. I am hoping to capture this to determine what changes, if any were applied.
I already tried setting STDOUT to a ByteArrayOutputStream but that didn't work, presumably as the logger is initialised before the re-direction.
What other options are there to obtain the output messages ?

All you have to do is configure whatever logging framework you use to achieve this. No need to reassign stdout.

While this suggestion is great I am not sure how it addresses the need to capture the output from one migration only, while another migration is running. Do you have an example of a logger configuration which deal with individual migration in a concurrent scenario /

How to set log4j2 log levels and categories in DataWeave 2.x?

When using the log() function in DataWeave I have a few questions:
How can I set a log level and log category so my logs are handled by log4j2 the same way as log messages from the Logger components in the Mule flow?
How can I suppress logging the expression? If the expression result is very large (what if it is streaming data?) I might only want to log to first argument to log, and skip the actual DW expression evaluation.
There is no way to set the logging level with the log() function in DataWeave. As an alternative you could implement a custom function in a custom module in to log that allows to set levels.
You could use the same custom function to implement some logic, however there is the generic problem of determining if a payload is big without fully consuming it. In any case DataWeave logging is meant to be used as a debugging tool and should not be used in production or for big payloads. The best practice is to avoid logging at all unless you need to debug an issue, and then remove the logging.

How does the distributed executor service in Redisson work with regards to scoping / closuring?

If I push a Runnable to a redisson distributed executor service, what rules am I required to oblige by?
Surely , I can not have free reign, I do not see how that is possible, yet, it is not mention in the docs at all, nor are any rules apparently enforced by the API, like R extends Serializable or similar.

You can have an access to RedisClient and taskId. Full state of task object will be serialized.
TaskRetry setting applied to each task. If task isn't executed after 5 minutes since the moment of start then it will requeued.
I agree that the documentation is lacking some "under the hood" explanations.
I was able to execute db reads and inserts through the Callable/runnable that was submitted to the remote ExecutorService.
I configured a single Redis on a remote VM, the database and the app running locally on my laptop.
The tasks were executed without any errors.

Integration and Unit testing Nifi process groups

I have a few Nifi process groups which I want to run integration tests on before promoting to production. The issue is that I can't seem to find any documentation on how to do so.
Data Provenance seems like a promising tool to accomplish what I want, however, over the course of the flowfile's lifecycle, data is published to/from kafka or the file system. As a result, the flowfile UUID changes so I cannot query for it using the nifi-api.
Additionally, I know that Nifi offers a TestRunner library to run tests, however, this seems to only be for processors/processor groups generated via code and not the UI.
Does anyone know of a tool, framework, or pattern for integration and unit testing nifi process groups. Ideally this would be a solution where you can programatically compare input/output of the processor/processor group without modifying the existing workflow.
With the introduction of the Apache NiFi Registry, we have seen users promote flows from a development/sandbox environment to a test/QE environment where there are existing "test harness" flows surrounding the "flow under test" so that they can send repeatable and deterministic (or an anonymized sample of real production data) through the flow and compare the results to an expected value.
As you point out, there is a TestRunner class and a whole testing framework provided for unit tests. While it can be difficult to manually translate a UI-constructed flow to the programmatic construction, you could also create something like a translator to accept a flow template or flow.xml.gz file and convert it into something processable by the test framework.
Maybe plumber will help you with flow testing.
We also wanted to test whole NiFi flows, not just single processor, so we created this library and decided to open-source it.

Is it possible to write a plugin for Glimpse's existing SQL tab?
I'm trying to log my SQL queries and the currently available extensions don't support our in-house SQL libary. I have written a custom plugin which logs what I want, but it has limited functionality and it doesn't integrate with the existing SQL tab.
Currently, I'm logging to my custom plugin using a single helper method inside my DAL's base class. This function looks takes the SqlCommand and Duration in order to show data on my custom tab:

This works well on my 'custom' tab but unfortunately means I don't get metrics shown on Glimpse's HUD:
Is there a way I can provide Glimpse directly with the info it needs (in terms of method names, and parameters) so it displays natively on the SQL tab?
The following advise is based on the fact that you can't use DbProviderFactory and you can't use a proxied SqlCommand, etc.
The data that appears in the "out-of-the-box" SQL tab is based on messages of given types been published through our internal Message Broker (see below on information on this). Because of the above limitations in your case, to get things lighting up correctly (i.e. your data showing up in HUD and the SQL tab), you will need to simulate the work that we do under the covers when we publish these messages. This shouldn't be that difficult and once done, should just work moving forward.
If you have a look at the various proxies we have here you will be above to see what messages we publish in what circumstances. Here are some highlights:

Now that you have an idea of what messages we are expecting and how we generate them, as long as you pass in the right data when you publish those messages, everything should just light up - if you are interested here is the code that looks for the messages that you will be publishing.
Message Broker: If you at the GlimpseConfiguration here you will see how to access the Broker. This can be done statically if needed (as we do here). From here you can publish the messages you need.
Helpers: For generating some of the above messages, you can use the helpers inside the Support class here. I would have shifted all the code for publishing the actual messages to this class, but I didn't think there would be too many people doing what you are doing.
Update 1
Starting point: With the above approach you shouldn't need to write your own plugin. You should just be able to access the broker GlimpseConfiguration.GetConfiguredMessageBroker() (make sure you check if its null, which it is if Glimpse is turned off, etc) and publish your messages.
I would imagine that you would put the inspection that leverages the broker and published the messages, where ever you have knowledge of the information that needs to be collected (i.e. inside your custom lib). Normally this would require references inside your lib to glimpse (which you may not want), so to protect against this, from your lib, you would call a proxy (which could be another VS proj) that has the glimpse dependency. Hence your ado lib only has references to your own code.
To get your toes wet, try just publishing a couple of fake connection and command messages. Assuming the broker you get from GlimpseConfiguration.GetConfiguredMessageBroker() isn't null, these should just show up. Then you can work towards getting real data into it from your lib.
Update 2
Obsolete Broker Access
Its marked as obsolete because its going to change in v2. You will still be able to do what you need to do, but the way of accessing the broker has changed. For what you currently need to do this is ok.
Sometimes null
As you have found this is really dependent on where in the page lifecycle you are currently at. To get around this, I would probably change my original recommendation a little.
In the code where you are currently creating messages and pushing them to the message bus, try putting them into HttpContext.Current.Items. If you haven't used it before, this is a store which asp.net provides out of the box which lasts the lifetime of a given request. You could have a list that you put in there, still create the message objects that you are doing, but put them into that list instead of pushing them through the broker.
Then, create a HttpModule (its really simple to do) which taps into the PostLogRequest event. Within this handler, you would pull the list out of the context, iterate through it and push the message into the message broker (accessing the same way you have been).

Logging status of application to console window

I am currently refactoring an application that prints its status to the console window. At the moment I am doing something like this:
Console.Write("Print some status.....")
//some code
Console.WriteLine("Done!")
Now while this works fine, all the logic is hidden between console.writelines and I find makes it very hard to read.
I don't know if there is a better way of doing this, but I just wanted to ask and see if anyone has come up with a better/more clean way of print application status to the console.
Any ideas?
Take a look at Log4Net, it handles everything, but might be an overkill for your app, no idea. However knowing Log4Net will likely help you down the road someday so maybe this is a good chance too learn it.
I second using Log4Net. It is pretty easy to use it without invoking the difficult parts - just do the following:
In your applications Main() method, call
log4net.Config.BasicConfigurator.Configure(new log4net.Appender.ConsoleAppender());
That sets up a basic Console logger that logs all messages to stdout.
In the class that needs logging, create a new ILog like so:
private static readonly log4net.ILog log = log4net.LogManager.GetLogger(typeof (MyClass));
Then in the method that needs logging, call
log.Debug("Print Some status ...");
Once you have all of this set up and working. look through the Log4Net documentation on how to set up more useful logging. You can do a lot of different types of logging without changing the logging calls in your code at all.
Why not use a Logger object that write errors into a text file? You could come with some "priority" error messages such as: Logger.print(new priority("important"), "blabla");
This way, you could find in your file the exact time and all the message you want.
If you absolutely want the console, you could use the priority on the console.. so it would only prints what you tell the logger to print, such as network error, etc..
