In matlab if you highlight a section of code and press cmd+i on mac it corrects all the indentation.
Is there a similar command for xcode? Say I have a for loop inside a while loop inside a method, yet each line is flush on the left, can I highlight it all and get the tabbing fixed?
Yes, you can do that in Xcode as well - default shortcut for that is ctrl+I
It is control + i for Xcode.
Also select the code and right-click and Structure

IntelliJ IDEA automatically shows a red line if it cannot resolve some entities or it detects an error. Is there a way to copy and paste the content of that tooltip?
With eclipse I use the f2 to get the information.
I used the idea version 14.1.4 and use this way to copy the tooltips.
You can click the error line and the info will display, now you can right click to copy this error info.
Mouse shortcut:
Hover mouse over error in editor to bring up tooltip
Alt + click on error message inside tooltip to copy it to clipboard
For step 1 you can also bring up the tooltip for the current carret position by Ctrl + F1. For step 2 there does not seem to exist a keyboard shortcut at the time of writing (for IntelliJ 2018.1), see also IDEA-65636.
If you stumbled upon looking for solution for Linux version (and none of the above worked for you, like for me) click ctrl+alt+left mouse button on the tooltip, and you'll get its content into the clipboard :)
No, the tooltips don't offer a way to get that information from their context alone.
You could traditionally compile it instead via Build -> Compile and get the error message that way, instead. You can then select this text and do with it what you wish.
There is a bug report on this since 2011 (!) . Feel free /encouraged to vote for having the bug fixed:
https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-65636
IDEA-65636 I can't copy text from tooltip, though I can select it
Though honestly JetBrains infrequently gets around to non super critical bug fixes.
I have comments that gets balloon (PEP 8: Line too long ... > 120)
I wish there was a command that will wrap the lines with few keystrokes.
Right now, even if I type Alt+Enter and press enter on Reformat file, nothing actually changes. Is there a setting or plugin I could use to accomplish the formatting easily?
Under the Edit menu, there is a Fill Paragraph option, which does what I believe you want. You can assign a key command to this in Preferences, under Appearance & Behavior -> Keymap (search for "fill").
Personally, I choose first stroke Esc, second stroke Q, because that's what I've always used in Emacs...
Firstly, reformatting won't work, not in Python at least, where whitespace is important. PyCharm's "Wrap when typing reaches right margin" option is what you're looking for. Now this will not work when you copy and paste code, but in the places where it gives you trouble, just press enter, and it will work.
To be able to auto-reformat comments (and code, for that matter) to honor a right margin after the fact, go into Project Settings under Code Style and then further under Python. Click the Wrapping and Braces tab, and check the "Ensure right margin is not exceeded" checkbox.
Now if you select a region of lines and then run the Code/Reformat Code... command, PyCharm will do its best to wrap the comments or code appropriately.
You will probably have to do some tweaking of the results to suit your stylistic taste. For example, I wish PyCharm would do aggressive filling of text in block comments, at least optionally so.
PyCharm will not reformat code such that it becomes invalid Python, so sometimes it will still leave a line longer than the margin (120 or whatever you set under Project Settings/Code Style/General).
With recent PyCharm this now is located at "Editor -> Code Style", with the checkbox named "Wrap on typing"
The Screenshot shows PyCharm version 2016.2.1 Professional.
Updated Answer:
Use "soft wraps." You can search for it in the help bar.
View > Active Editor > Use Soft Wraps
It won't work for existing text or text that's copied in, but will for any newly typed text.
Is there a possibility to remove all breakpoints in the module (might be using a shortcut) in IntelliJ IDEA IDE? Thanks.
Ctrl+Shift+F8
is using for removing all breakpoints.
Select upper breakpoint -> Ctrl+Shift+End -> Remove
On Mac Os use this:
Cmd + Shift + (Fn) + F8 on Mac OS
To remove all breakpoints in IntelliJ Idea press following sequence of shortcuts:
Ctrl+Shift+F8 (open Breakpoints dialog)
Ctrl+A (select all breakpoint)
Alt+Delete (remove selected breakpoints)
Enter (confirm)
If you press Ctrl+Shift+F8 and your cursor is at code line with breakpoint, instead of Breakpoint dialog you get bubble with properties of a single breakpoint.
To get the Breakpoints dialog press Ctrl+Shift+F8 again.
Tested in IntelliJ Idea 14 Community Edition.
In case of Mac, follow below steps:
cmd+Shift+F8 (open Breakpoints dialog)
cmd+A (select all breakpoint)
cmd+Delete (remove selected breakpoints)
Enter (confirm)
Unlike Alt+Delete in windows, It's cmd+Delete in Mac
As an alternative, instead of removing all breakpoints, you can just mute them. This will help in the case that you want to stop breaking on all of them. They will still exist, so you can toggle this setting again to start breaking on them.
The mute breakpoints button can be found in the Debug view (view can be toggled using View -> Tool Windows -> Debug), in the left-hand side button menu. I attached a screenshot below.
As mentioned in this answer the shortcut works.
But we tend to forget the combination of keys (I do).
There exists another way to access breakpoints window.
Clicking on this button will open breakpoints window.
Here is one of my trick to remove all breakpoints of a page:
Ctrl+A : select all code
Ctrl+X : cut all codes
Ctrl+V : paste all code
this trick removes all breakpoints at one go and it takes less than a second.
On a Mac you need Shift + Comand + F8
press ctrl+shift+f8 and select check box of which you want to remove and then press minus button in left upper corner in android studio 2.2
The default settings in Xcode 3.2.6 do some automatic indentation: typing if (something) and pressing return (when the cursor is to the right of the closing paren) automatically indents the cursor by one tab. How can I turn this feature off?
I tried turning off "syntax-aware indenting" however this doesn't solve the problem. Pressing return in the above example still indents the cursor (it's aligned with if in this case).
My ultimate goal is to avoid "stray tabs" (blank lines that have tabs).
You could hook in a code beautifier to clean up the tabs afterwards: http://robertjpayne.com/post/9092159751/using-uncrustify-directly-in-xcode-4
I'm Using resharper 6 nighty builds and VB.net. I've a big medium project with multiple files that don't follow the code style conventions of my company.
I've configured resharper with my own convenctions and It suggest to me the right name for each variable (perfect!).
But I can't find any automagic way to make the current name to be replaced with the suggested name.
Are there any way to do it? If not ... did you know ane fearure of coderush Xpress to achieve it?
Thanks.
If you've configured ReSharper with your naming conventions, then it should show a warning (blue squiggly underline) under any identifiers that don't comply. If you put the text cursor on one of those misnamed identifiers, you should see a pyramid icon appear near the left margin. Then you can press Alt+Enter (or click the pyramid icon) to drop down a quick-fix menu. There should be an option in the menu to "Rename to '_myField'". Usually it's the first item in the list, so you can just press Enter again to do the rename.
If you want to do this on everything in a source file, you can use the ReSharper > Inspect > Next Issue in File command (or its keyboard shortcut -- F12 in the IDEA keymap) to move the cursor to the next warning in the file. Then, if it's another name warning, you can use Alt+Enter, Enter again to fix it.
Unfortunately, there isn't a way to automatically fix every instance of a warning at once (though it's been requested; please feel free to vote for RSRP-126551 in their issue tracker).
