Combine results from two independent queries - sql

I'm fairly new to Postgres and need to fetch two separate data :
1) values of avg, min, max of various records/resuts of table T1
2) column values of the 'last' record of the table T1 based on the most recent timestamp
The problem is I cannot run these queries separately as it will cause performance issues. (the data in this table can be in tens of thousands or records and combining them into a result object, even more complex).
Is it possible to combine the results of these two data side by side into one monster of a query that will return the desired output?

How to select rows corresponding to a randomly selected column value in SQL

My query returns a result like shown in the table. I would like to randomly pick an ID from the ID column and get all the rows having that ID. How can I do that in SnowFlake or SQL:

There is a Snowflake function to return a fix number of "random" rows SAMPLE, so using that will reduce the need to read all rows.

You could also use a NATURAL JOIN like:

NATURAL JOIN (SELECT ID FROM your_table SAMPLE (1 ROWS))
You could put your existing query in a common table expression, then pick a random ID from it, and use it to filter the dataset:
with
dat as ( ... your query ...),
tid as (select id from dat order by random() fetch first 1 row)
select d.*
from dat d
inner join tid t on t.id = d.id
The second CTE, tid picks the random id; it does that by randomly ordering the dataset, then getting the id of the top row.
Something like
SELECT *
FROM Table_NAME
WHERE ID IN (SELECT ID FROM Table_Name ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 1);
Should work. Though it's not particularly efficient and in many application scenarios it would arguably be more reasonable overall to compute the random ID in your application (e.g. keeping the set of all ids cached, periodically pulling it separately if need be etc).
(Note: The query assumes MYSQL, other variants may have slightly different keywords/structure, e.g. for the random function).

You can also play with the window frame a little and let qualify do the work

Snowflake deviates from ANSI standard on the default window frames for rank-related functions (first_value, last_value, nth_value), so that makes the above equivalent to :
select *
from your_table
qualify id=first_value(id) over (order by random())

Get two most frequent data from SQL tbl?

i have a tbl call it tbl_test in which continously data are inserting and it has approx 10^6 records at a time it has colums
Acquire_Id (Value between 1 to 20 ),
Status_Msg(value between 'A' to 'Z'),
Status_Code(value between 1 to 26)
There is one to one mapping b/w Status_Msg and Status_Code
Now i want to get two most frequent status_msg and Staus_Code Count for each acquirer if they are present in table
Query should be Cost Saving
Most databases support the ANSI standard window functions. You can get what you want using row_number() (or rank() or dense_rank(), depending on how ties are returned) after aggregating the values.
The following returns exactly two rows for each acquirer (even if there are ties).

Select all but last row in Oracle SQL

I want to pull all rows except the last one in Oracle SQL
My database is like this
Prikey - Auto_increment
common - varchar
miles - int
So I want to sum all rows except the last row ordered by primary key grouped by common. That means for each distinct common, the miles will be summed (except for the last one)
Note: the question was changed after this answer was posted. The first two queries work for the original question. The last query (in the addendum) works for the updated question.
This should do the trick, though it will be a bit slow for larger tables:

This query is longer but for a large table it should faster. I'll leave it to you to decide:

Looks like I am a little too late but here is my contribution, similar to Ed Gibbs' first solution but instead of calculating the max id for each value in the table and then comparing I get it once using an inline view.

At least I think this is more efficient if you want to go without the use of Analytics.

Over clause in SQL Server

I have the following query

This should mean that between the two dates in the table the patID that there should be 5 unique drug names. However, when I run the following query:
select distinct *
from rx
where patid = 1358801781 and fillDate between '2008-10-17' and '2008-11-16' and drugClass='H4B'
I have a result set returned that looks like
You can see that while there are in fact five rows returned for the second query between the dates of 2008-10-17 and 2009-01-15, there are only three unique names. I've tried various ways of modifying the over clause, all with different levels of non-success. How can I alter my query so that I only find unique drugNames within the timeframe specified for each row?

Not sure if DISTINCT is really necessary - left it in since you've used it.

Group by every N records in T-SQL

I have some performance test results on the database, and what I want to do is to group every 1000 records (previously sorted in ascending order by date) and then aggregate results with AVG.
I'm actually looking for a standard SQL solution, however any T-SQL specific results are also appreciated.
The query looks like this:

Give the answer to Yuck. I only post as an answer so I could include a code block. I did a count test to see if it was grouping by 1000 and the first set was 999. This produced set sizes of 1,000. Great query Yuck.

I +1'd #Yuck, because I think that is a good answer. But it's worth mentioning NTILE().
Reason being, if you have 10,010 records (for example), then you'll have 11 groupings -- the first 10 with 1000 in them, and the last with just 10.
If you're comparing averages between each group of 1000, then you should either discard the last group as it's not a representative group, or...you could make all the groups the same size.
NTILE() would make all groups the same size; the only caveat is that you'd need to know how many groups you wanted.
So if your table had 25,250 records, you'd use NTILE(25), and your groupings would be approximately 1000 in size -- they'd actually be 1010 in size; the benefit being, they'd all be the same size, which might make them more relevant to each other in terms of whatever comparison analysis you're doing.
You could get your group-size simply by

And then modifying #Yuck's approach with the NTILE() substitution:

Answer above does not actually assign a unique group id to each 1000 records. Adding Floor() is needed. The following will return all records from your table, with a unique GroupID for each 1000 rows:

And for my needs, I wanted my GroupID to be a random set of characters, so I changed the Floor(...) GroupID to:
TO_HEX(SHA256(CONCAT(CAST(Floor((Rank-1) / 10) AS STRING),'seed1'))) GroupID
without the seed value, you and I would get the exact same output because we're just doing a SHA256 on the number 1, 2, 3 etc. But adding the seed makes the output unique, but still repeatable.
This is BigQuery syntax. T-SQL might be slightly different.
Lastly, if you want to leave off the last chunk that is not a full 1000, you can find it by doing:

and this solution allowed me to find the max date within each of the 25 groups of my data set:
