I already have a set-up in my production environment and just trying to understand how exactly this works? Please help me understand ,
Set-up :
We have 2 diff kinda set-up. ie, the url https://ddd.myserver.net:111/ABC and https://ddd.myserver.net:222/ . Apache server (ddd.myserver.net)is configured with Listen port 111 to service application ABC and the same server is configured with Listen port 222 to serve application XYZ.
i.e, https://ddd.myserver.net:111/ABC - Is mapped to the application ABC thats deployed on Weblogic Server.
and https://ddd.myserver.net:222/ - Is mapped to the application XYZ thats deployed on the same Weblogic Server.
Now my question is, the former link (https://ddd.myserver.net:111/ABC) works fine only if the context root(ABC) is appended to the url. IF i try as https://ddd.myserver.net:111/ then the apache_wl.log mentions that there s no page found.
ie.,
URL::parseHeaders: CompleteStatusLine set to [HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found]
URL::parseHeaders: StatusLine set to [404 Not Found]
But then the second one (https://ddd.myserver.net:222/) just works fine without even mentioning the context root in the url.
Now All I need to know is, how and where is this config likely to be set? Where in the link works without even mentioning the context root?
Thanks.
[UPDATE]
I have already looked at the httpd.conf and ssl.conf but couldn't really make out where this has been configured.
[UPDATE 2]
Here's the important code snippet, if you require any specific config property pls let me know.
httpd.conf
Include conf.d/ssl.conf
UseCanonicalName Off
DocumentRoot "C:/Test/WS/ABC/ABC"
Alias /ABC "C:/Test/WS/ABC/ABC"
ssl.conf
LoadModule ssl_module modules/mod_ssl.so
Listen 111
<VirtualHost *:111>
DocumentRoot "C:/Test/WS/ABC/ABC"
ServerName ddd.myserver.net
ErrorLog logs/ssl_error_log
TransferLog logs/ssl_access_log
LogLevel warn
SSLEngine on
<IfModule mod_weblogic.c>
WLLogFile logs/abc_wl.log

I've installed some software for users to be able to change their ldap password on they own named self service password on this path: /usr/share/self-service-password/htdocs.
In sites-enabled my configuration is as follows: (file named 000-default.conf)
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName <IP>
DocumentRoot /usr/share/self-service-password/htdocs
DirectoryIndex index.php
AddDefaultCharset UTF-8
LogLevel warn
ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/ssp_error.log
CustomLog /var/log/apache2/ssp_access.log combined
</VirtualHost>
(same thing is "configured" at sites-available").
I've made sure this .conf file (000-default) is enabled by a2ensite, and made sure everything else is disabled, and restarted apache2.
However, When browsing to my IP:81 , it keeps redirecting me to Apache default welcome page under /var/www/html .
I'm trying to find a solution for it for the past 2 hours and couldn't find the reason behind it.
Thanks for anyone willing to assist.
As per your configuration your VirtualHost is accepting connections on port *:80
<VirtualHost *:80>
But then you are testing on IP:81.
Could you please adjust your test to IP:80
or
Adjust the VirtualHost port to *:81
They must match to work.
I am currently trying to setup an virtual hosts following this tutorial on DigitalOcean.
The dummy-site I am trying to serve is under /var/www/example/html/index.html. I have not registered an official domain but setup /etc/hosts/ to resolve example.com to the IP address of my server.
I created another conf file called example.conf under /etc/apache2/sites-available and enabled it with sudo a2ensite example.conf and disabled the 000-default.conf.
Now whenever I go to example.com in my browser I get served:
.
This is the same page I would get when directly going to the IP address of my server. Only when I got directly to example.com/example/html I get served the correct index.html.
My current config looks like this:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin admin#example.com
ServerName example.com
ServerAlias www.example.com
DocumentRoot /var/www/example/html
ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log
CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined
</VirtualHost>
And my /etc/hosts file on my laptop like this:
#<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
<server-ip> example.com
There are some other folders inside /var/www/ as the company I rented the server from had some maintenance sites preinstalled, but that shouldn't matter in this situation. (See edit, this did actually matter).
It feels like I am missing something obvious here, but I can't find a solution for my problem.
Edit:
The obvious thing I was missing, was that 2 additional sites where enabled by default as well.
One had the following contents:
# 10_froxlor_ipandport_<ip-address>.conf
# Created 28.11.2019 21:05
# Do NOT manually edit this file, all changes will be deleted after the next domain change at the panel.
<VirtualHost <ip-address>:80>
DocumentRoot "/var/www/"
ServerName <predefined Server name>
</VirtualHost>
After disabling all the other sites, the request to example.com actually went to the right index.html.
I figure, that the above enabled site actually matched the request coming from my browser and showed the www root directory.

Apache Server Unable to host multiple domain on single Public IP running on Windows Server 2016
Error:"Not Found The requested URL / was not found on this server." 404 Not Found
Progress so far :
1)Edited Windows hosts file "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts": to below
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
127.0.0.1 koffeeroasters.com
2)Changes made in the httpd.conf file of apache is below
changed
#Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf
to
Include conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf
also changed
#LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so
to
LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so
and added to the end of the file the following
# Tells Apache to identify which site by name
NameVirtualHost *:80
# Tells Apache to serve the default WAMP Server page to "localhost"
<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
ServerName localhost
DocumentRoot "C:/wampstack/apache2/htdocs"
</VirtualHost>
# Tells Apache to serve Client 1's pages to "client1.localhost"
# Duplicate and modify this block to add another client
<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
# The name to respond to
ServerName koffeeroasters.com
ServerAlias www.koffeeroasters.com
# Folder where the files live
DocumentRoot "C:/wampstack/apache2/htdocs/koffeeroasters.com/"
# A few helpful settings...
<Directory "C:/wampstack/apache2/htdocs/koffeeroasters.com/">

# Enables .htaccess files for this site
AllowOverride All
</Directory>
# Apache will look for these two files, in this order, if no file is specified in the URL
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php
</VirtualHost>
Other details
I am using apache server on bitnami wampstack.
Site is available when typed the address "koffeeroasters.com" from the servers browser.
A reason for it which I know no solution of (refered from apache docs "https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/vhosts/examples.html") :
Note :
Creating virtual host configurations on your Apache server does not magically cause DNS entries to be created for those host names. You must have the names in DNS, resolving to your IP address, or nobody else will be able to see your web site. You can put entries in your hosts file for local testing, but that will work only from the machine with those hosts entries.
Thanks a bunch. All help appreciated.
Try changing this:
<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
to
<VirtualHost *:80>
This means allow any other IPs connect on port 80, which should get you going. Trying to match the localhost is doing more than you probably need, unless you are public facing server, in which case you will not want to do this.
I have an httpd server configured and working. The server returns "It works" and I can see the SSL is installed correctly.
The next step I undertook was configuring the reverse proxy, so that the users requests are redirected and I can have more customers' apps under one subdomain. The httpd configuration (shown below) I use is not mine, I am just attempting to reconfigure it to work for me. But with no big success up to now. There are directives that may be incorrect, but I have not tried commenting anything out.
#Apache is listening on port 443
Listen 443
SSLSessionCache shmcb:c:/Apache24/logs/shmcb_cache(512000)
SSLSessionCacheTimeout 300
Mutex default ssl-cache
SSLRandomSeed connect builtin
SSLCryptoDevice builtin
<VirtualHost *:443>
#ProxyPreserveHost On
SSLProxyEngine On
ServerName XXXX.sk
ServerAdmin admin
# Logs
ErrorLog /var/log/rsk_error_log
TransferLog /var/log/rsk_access_log
# Server Certificate and Private Key:
SSLCertificateFile /ssl/certificate.crt
SSLCertificateKeyFile /ssl/private.key
SSLCertificateChainFile /ssl/chain.crt
#Include conf/extra/proxy-443-to-8890.conf
ProxyPass /customer http://172.17.0.4:8080
ProxyPassReverse /customer http://172.17.0.4:8080
</VirtualHost>
Now when I type XXXX.sk/customer I receive a response which is a login screen, but it is incorrectly rendered, the CSS is not used at all. There are many errors appearing. When I log in, no response is returned and the URL is corrupted.
Can any of you, using httpd in a reverse proxy mode, please share your configs, at least a part of them?
The default webroot in base-component is mapping to / in url. All of resources like css, js etc is using "/" to build url, So Although the proxying is
ProxyPass /customer http://172.17.0.4:8080
The actual js location is still
/lib/jquery/jquery-ui.min.css
not
/customer/lib/jquery/jquery-ui.min.css
To make it work, the reverse proxy would need more messy location proxy_pass configurations.
So using additional path to proxy the webroot is not suggested.
How can I set up Apache 2.2 to load the site from htdocs/example/ when I write in the address bar example.local?
Thanks in advance
You have to make sure that example.local resolves to your local machine, easiest way is by adding a line like
127.0.0.1 example.local
to your hosts file (linux: /etc/hosts; win: %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts).
And than you need a vhost in your apache config, like (this is very basic)
<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80>
ServerName example.local
DocumentRoot /path/to/htdocs
ErrorLog /path/to/error.log
CustomLog /path/to/access.log combined
</VirtualHost>
That way you should be able to to access files in htdocs/example/ via http://example.local/example/
For more details please refer to the fine apache manual
