This may be a simple question, but I'm not even sure of the search terms to find the answer.
I have two winforms applications which have been derived from the same code. One supersedes the other, but occasionally we have to us the older VB app for legacy information.
The problem is, if one app is already open, when the icon of the other app is clicked, nothing happens. The currently open app's window becomes selected like it has just been opened. Nothing else.
What I would like to happen is that both apps can open at the same time. They reference different DB's so there's not clash there.
I thought it might be something to do with the name spaces, so I changed those, but to no avail.
Any thoughts, I'm sure its a simple answer.

Look at Project Settings (Double Click on "My Project" in the Project Explorer).
In the Application-Tab you'll find the setting "Create Single Instance Application"
(I'm translating from German Version, may be slighlty different).

Basicly it is useful to keep this setting as it is and go for the alternative:
In that same spot, you find a button "Assembly Information". Click on that and change the first number of the "Assembly Version". Now the older and newer versions are two different programs for Windows and will run parallel.
Go to, 'project properties', Tab 'Application', section 'Windows application framework properties'. There is a checkbox called 'Make single instance application'. Maybe that's on...
I had the same problem with two applications. They had different assembly versions and I wanted to avoid unchecking "Make single instance application", so I kept looking until I found that they had the same GUID. Just changed one of them and problem solved. You can change the GUID in the Assembly Information dialog. Hope it helps.

As best as I can tell, Visual Studio 2019 completely removed the ability to jump to matching brace.
I tried the hotkey I've been using for years (Ctrl-]) and it changes indent instead (why would I need that? This is C#, not Python). I also tried looking up the KeyMap (Environment->Keyboard) setting and searching for match, and there was nothing relevant. As far as I can tell, Microsoft has completely removed this feature, but I wanted to confirm that Fattie and I are not the only ones with this problem.
(for reference, here is the question for VS 2008 whose answer no longer works because the default keyboard shortcut has changed.)
EDIT: The setting still exists, but has been renamed to not contain the all-important keyword "match". See accepted answer.

Go to Tools -> Options -> Environment -> Keyboard and lookup Edit.GotoBrace to see the current key combination for this feature:

just for the ones among us with non-us keyboard. On my keyboard, I need to press 'AltGr' to access "]". Therefore Ctrl+] doesn't work. Interestingly, VS has already compensated for that problem and changed the hotkey to Ctrl+`, which works nicely for me. You just need to know the hotkey has changed (depending on your keyboard).

On a Finnish/Swedish keyboard the Edit.GotoBrace field is mapped to Ctrl+Å
I recently did some refactoring in our code and marked some widely-used functions as obsolete. The problem now is, that I get not visual indicator when I use an obsolete function right away. I have to hover over the function call to get the popup with further information about that function, and even there the "deprecated" warning is not very prominent. As these functions are to widely-used and cause no real treat, setting the isError property is not an option.
I know that somewhere I saw obsolete functions that were highlighted with some kind of underlining, but I can not find an option that does that. Where is that option, or how else can I achieve a more eye-catching indication?
I have created a simple toy VB.Net console application in MSVS, as you can see in the image the items marked obsolete are underlined in green where they are used.
If you are not seeing this then you will need to provide some more details on your solution's settings - what type of project is it, what version of visual studio are you opening it in, is it the same version it was created in, do you have any third party code linter (eg ReSharper) in use... etc
EDIT: As you mention in your comment, the project's properties, including the Code Analysis settings, will affect whether this underlining show's correctly or not; you will need to ensure the correct rule-set is selected there.
Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this one. I am running VS2015, and some colleagues are running VS2013. We are all running our code through TFS for source-control, and we encounter this issue quite a bit.
When we open a form or a control, not even modifying it, then close it, it will completely restructure the *.Designer.vb file, but not modify any data (at worst, it's simply put the upper casing of True/False to true/false).
This proves an issue as we are becoming increasingly wary of working on the same forms as one another.
Does anyone know a potential fix to this, or if this is a bug of sorts?

The VB code use PascalCased keywords.Even though you write the keywords in lower case and VS would auto-casing to PascalCase.
However,there is a way to change to Lowercase Keywords：
Download Glamour from the GitHub repo.
Install it by drag/dropping the truetype font (.ttf) files in your
%SystemDrive%\Windows\Fonts folder.
Change your text editor font in the Tools > Options > Fonts & Colors
dialog to Glamour.
Select "Keyword" in the "Display Items" list and check the "Bold"
checkbox.

Every time I close and reopen Aptana Studio 3 it collapses all the folders in the project explorer and I have to reopen them all, is there a way to get it to leave them open and save the project explorer's state when I close the program?

I cannot find any way to keep the state of the Project Explorer. However, using the App Explorer, the state of your open folder will be preserved. You can also try the "Navigator" which looks just like the Project Explorer, but appears to keep state. I will add the proviso to that: It kept state when I restarted aptana, but it also developed a GUI glitch where it appears to be scrolled to the right so I only see the right half of all of my file names and I cannot fix it, so this may not be a good option if you get the same glitch.
There is also a method which does not do quite what you ask, but may be a good fix for you anyway. If you click "Link with Editor" picture (two yellow arrows) in the Project Editor, it will automatically expand your project hierarchy to match whichever open file you have active. Since your files stay open when you close Aptana, this would keep the Project Explorer expanded to whatever you are looking at even on restart. See this question
You can also set up working sets for various parts of your code that are buried in the hierarchy and use the Project Explorer to show those working sets instead of you projects. This does not save state, but it does give you easy access to common parts of your code that may be deeply buried.

Why would a .sln solution file open and appear empty in Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express - i.e. no windows showing projects and code files etc.
When I inspect the file in a text editor, it contains references to vbproj files (which are present) which indicate that it should not appear as empty.
No error messages are reported when the file is opened.

Express Edition is limited to on project per solution. If you have more than that, you will not be able to use the solution file with the express edition of visual studio. You will need to open the projects separately.
The answer is that the projects did load for the solution but the Window to display them was not open or visible. To make it visible, go to the View menu and select Other Windows:
This displays the 4 projects referenced by the solution
Forgive me for blurring the project names but this might be commercially sensitive and therefore not for public awareness. But you get the picture.
In summary it was my lack of knowledge about the tool, though I had looked under the Window option first thinking along these lines, but the View menu is actually where one would go to display things about the project.
