Hello guys,
i am unable to connect mysql workbench with windows azure sql database so i can manage the DB from PC without issues.
Is their a way to do it.. ? or is their an option or alternative to achieve my goal ?
Please help me regarding my query ! Thanks a lot :)
UPDATE:
Here is the error code i am getting:
[Window Title]
MySQL Workbench
[Main Instruction]
Cannot Connect to Database Server
[Content]
Your connection attempt failed for user 'username' from your host to server at xxxxxxxxx.database.windows.net:1433:
Lost connection to MySQL server at 'waiting for initial communication packet', system error: 10060
Please:
1 Check that mysql is running on server xxxxxx.database.windows.net
2 Check that mysql is running on port 1433 (note: 3306 is the default, but this can be changed)
3 Check the username has rights to connect to xxxxxx.database.windows.net from your address (mysql rights define what clients can connect to the server and from which machines)
4 Make sure you are both providing a password if needed and using the correct password for xxxxxxx.database.windows.net connecting from the host address you're connecting from
[Close]
Your server is xxxx.database.windows.net, so you are using SQL server, not MySQL server.
MySQL server format is: xxxx.mysql.database.azure.com.
You should use a MySQL server if you want to connect to MySQL Workbench.

I have a Windows POS application with remote SQL database.
What is the best way to connect my application to database ?
I'm thinking of connecting with one of these methods
port foreword ( currently using this methods. but it fails to connect sometimes, then I have to restart SQL server to get it connected again or wait for long )
VPN access
Install local SQL server and use replication to main server ( but I cannot lock database from unauthorized access as SQL local server and POS application running on the same system )
Please suggest me an option or if there any better option
Any help would be highly appreciated
I've been trying to configure my sql server express 2012 to recieve connections over the internet without any luck for hours (I'm using Team Foundation Service for nightly builds but it fails when it tries to run unit tests that interact with the sql server).
All I keep getting is this message :
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I have tried the following in order to solve this:
Install and run SQL Server Browser
Enable TCP/IP for the sql server instance (using the default SQLEXPRESS)
Enable Port forwarding in my router
Added SQL Server and SQL Server browser apps to the firewall allowed apps list.
Banged my head against the wall.
My sql server is mixed mode, and the username and password are correct (it works when using the local ip address)
I've read every post here regarding this problem but nothing so far..
I'm pretty desperate so any advice will be greatly appreciated!
thanks
Solved it.
Only had to enter my public IP adress without the isntance name.
For example xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx instead of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\SQLEXPRESS
I can't believe it's such a stupid mistake ...
I just installed of SQL Server Management Studio Express 2012, and then I try to connect database engine with servername : ./sqlexpress, but it failed.
Its raised message like below :
TITLE: Connect to Database Engine
Cannot connect to ./sqlexpress.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3)

Whats going wrong?
I've seen this in the past, most likely the wrong instance name or address. Since it is a local DB instance on your machine you will want to try connecting to (local)\SQLEXPRESS [This is the default SQL Express Instance]
If you are running a local instance of SQL Server you can just use localhost as the server name. Also you can try to remove the ./ before the server name.
If anyone else gets a failed to connect to server instance while trying to connect to a DB in C#, make sure you add localhost to the front of your database server address if you're on the same machine.
ie: myDatabase2012
should be put in as localhost\\myDatabase2012 (the second \ is needed to escape the first)
I have tried all the methods to connect to the server.I am using sql server 2008 on mixed authentication mode.I can login via the sql server management studio using the sa login. But when I try accessing the same db from my java program I get the following error:
SQL Exception: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Login failed for user 'sa'. ClientConnectionId:191d94bb-a55e-47a0-bb9f-b84638313cf4
This is my connectionstring:
Class.forName("com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver");
String connectionUrl= "jdbc:sqlserver://localhost;databaseName=Northwind;user=sa;password=sa;";
I have accessed my database in the same way. One of my problems were that I hadn't enabled the port and IP for the database. Check these options in SQL Server Configuration Manager. Hope this helps =)
I might be the million'th person posting about this, but others' solutions haven't helped me. I have a database on Microsoft SQL Azure. I an trying to connect to it using the Visual Studio 2010's "Connect to Database" Tool.
From my Windows 7 machine, I can connect to it very easily. But from my Windows Server 2008R2 machine i am getting the classic error -
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
All the posts around the web seem to be focussing on the problems on the server side, no one cares if the client goes rogue. :(
Thanks for the replies.
I have seen similar problems with VS2010 DB Tool and Windows Server so I would not suggest try using SSMS 2008 R2 (must be R2). Once you have download SSMS 2008 R2 and configured properly to work on Windows Server it sure will work. In most of the case you really need to open SSMS settings to get it workon on Windows Server.
Next a few points to check:
Verify that the telnet is working from your Windows Server Machine:
c:>telnet _your_sqlazure_database_name.database.windows.net 1433
Disable your real time security and the try again
Finally following the link to keep applying settings in your Windows Server and SSMS which are applicable and I am sure it will work:

One issue is that you need to connect via tcp, not named pipes (per your error message).
Are both servers behind the same firewall (e.g. the same external IP address)? The SQL Azure firewall needs to be configured to allow access from remote IP addresses.
