How to install an AIR app from within a Flash Projector? - air

I have two files:
A company demonstration file, created with CS5, flash projector file: demo.exe
A catalog application, created with Flash Builder 4.6, air file: catalog.air
The distribution media is going to be CDROM. demo.exe file will, eventually, be setup as autorun file.
I need to be able to install the air app if not previously installed, or run it directly if already installed from within the "demo.exe" file.
What I tried:
Downloaded air.swf for checking installed air application,
Exported demo.exe as "access local files only"
The Problem:
air.swf returns null for the installed version of catalog.air, so that I can't figure out if catalog.air is installed or not.
The Overcome:
change "access local files only" to "acccess network only" and load air.swf from "http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/browserapi/air.swf" then it will detect the installed version correctly.
But then:
Switching to "access network only" mode will prevent accessing the local catalog.air file. Hence, I can't get access to catalog.air and can't install it.
I am running out of my deadline and pulling my hair. Any hint pointing to right direction is mostly appreciated.
Update: Both flash and air app is using AS3.

If you use AS1/2, try use fscommand ("exec", filename), it may ignore "access network only" restriction.
fscommand ("exec", "catalog.air")
or
fscommand ("exec", "installMyApp.bat") (installMyApp.bat runs catalog.air)
catalog.air/installMyApp.bat must be in fscommand dir near your demo.exe

How to get Docker Desktop on Mac to point to new location of VM Image?

Docker Desktop supports moving the VM Image that it uses onto another drive if needed. On my Mac Mini (2018) I have moved it to an external SSD in order to enlarge it more than the internal storage would have allowed.
The external SSD was named "Extra Space", which (ironically) became a problem when I also tried to use the SSD for other non-Docker development and discovered that some of the Ruby Gems I am using have problems with spaces in path names.
I decided that I would have to rename the drive to "ExtraSpace" (without the "extra" space), but then Docker was not able to find its VM Image. I was unable to use the built-in location chooser ("Preferences" -> "Resources" -> "Advanced" -> "Disk Image Location") because that tool assumes that it is moving the image from one location to another but in my case the image is not being moved, only the path to the existing image is changing.
I looked through the Docker configuration in ~/Library/Containers/com.docker.desktop/ and found the path to the image in Library/Containers/com.docker.docker/Data/vms/0/hyperkit.json. I tried changing it there, but Docker Desktop would not start.
In the error logs, I found lots of messages like this:
time="2021-10-31T15:06:43-04:00" level=error msg="(5487d9bc) 4ecbf40e-BackendAPI S->C f68f0c84-DriverCMD GET /vm/disk (925.402µs): mkdir /Volumes/Extra Space: permission denied"
common/cmd/com.docker.backend/internal/handlers.(*VMInitHandler).VMDiskInfo(0x58c13b8, {0x58b94a0, 0xc0001d82a0})
common/cmd/com.docker.backend/internal/handlers/vminit.go:39 +0x42
Why does Docker Desktop not follow the VM configuration file to find the location of the image? Is there somewhere else I have to change it?
After a lot more searching, I found the following additional files that need to be updated with the new path:
~/Library/Preferences/com.electron.docker-frontend.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.electron.dockerdesktop.plist
~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.docker/settings.json
Once I had updated all of these files with the new path, Docker Desktop was able to start up correctly.

What do I have to do to install the missing error messages cab file on a Windows CE Device?

I got this err msg while running my WindowsCE app:
...and so I copied NETCFv35.Messages.EN.wm.cab from my PC to my handheld, and tried to run/install that cab file on the handheld. I got:
So then I tried the same with NETCFv35.Messages.EN.cab. When I ran it on the handheld, it told me that it had already been installed:
...but I went ahead and "reinstalled." I'm not sure its default installation location, though, is the right place:
...so I copied it over again to the folder on the handheld where my .exe resides (NETCFv35.Messages.EN.cab had been deleted out of there after reinstalling). This time I made sure to install it into that same folder, rather than the seemingly random location it chose the first time:
Still, though, running the app shows me the same old "Which way did they go, George?" err msg about not being able to show me error messages (first screamshot above).
This makes me feel kind of Grimm, to the point where I'm thinking this is a pretty revoltin' development (no pun intended).
What do I need to do to be able to see the hidden err msgs?
UPDATE
This is what I got when I unpacked SYCCFA~1.001, renamed it System.SR.dll, and tried to add it as a reference to the project (it claims that it is not a .NET assembly...???):
I tried the same thing with NETCFv35.Messages.EN.wm.cab, with the same results (it looks like the same file - same date, same size...so why the name diff?)
The error messages are in a single file called "System.SR.dll". The CAB simply installs that and puts it into the GAC. You get an "already installed" error because it sees it in the registry, though it doesn't mean the file is actually there.
You can simply extract the DLL from the cab with a zip extractor (I use WinRAR, but whatever). For example, If I open this file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft.NET\SDK\CompactFramework\v3.5\WindowsCE\Diagnostics\NETCFv35.Messages.EN.cab
It has a few things in it. SYCCFA~1.001 is the DLL. Pull it out, rename it to System.SR.dll and add it as a reference in your project. Studio will deploy it when you run and boom, you're cooking with butter.

"Access to this path is denied" in Windows 7 application

Ran into a strange phenomena:
in Application A, the code:
Using sr = New StreamReader(path)
runs perfectly (where path is C:\tmp for example. The directory is on the local machine).
In Application B the same line, on the same directory throws the exception: "Access to the path is denied".
This happens when run in the IDE or by activating the exe file.
Some additional information:
Windows 7 Pro, 64bit VS 2013
The app.manifest of both application is identical. I've tried changing to all possible options of requestedExecutionLevel but the result was the same.
The target framework of the application is 4.
The exception is thrown whether I run as administrator or not.
I've set the permissions of the directory to full control for all accounts (including Administrator and Everyone).
I've deleted the directory and recreated it. Didn't help.
Ran Farbar scan which did not report any problems.
Application A is referencing the FILE C:\tmp. I expect this file isnt present on Application B's machine.

Also ensure you are properly disposing of your StreamReader class after use. if you dont do this the file can remain locked.

Deploying ClickOne application with network share

We have a server PC and other client PCs working connected to server using LAN. We have a application for our internal use which is developed using VB.Net. I used steps in http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/17003/ClickOnce-Quick-steps-to-Deploy-Install-and-Update to deploy clickone statergy for updating our application. After publishing while installing application, this error is coming
I searched i details and found this error
ERROR SUMMARY
Below is a summary of the errors, details of these errors are listed later in the log.
* Activation of D:\Desktop\publish\Global.application resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected:
+ Downloading file:///D:/Desktop/publish/Application Files/Global_1_0_0_0/Global.XmlSerializers.dll.deploy did not succeed.
+ Could not find file 'D:\Desktop\publish\Application Files\Global_1_0_0_0\Global.XmlSerializers.dll.deploy'.
+ Could not find file 'D:\Desktop\publish\Application Files\Global_1_0_0_0\Global.XmlSerializers.dll.deploy'.
+ Could not find file 'D:\Desktop\publish\Application Files\Global_1_0_0_0\Global.XmlSerializers.dll.deploy'.
I have checked Application files in publish options and Global.XmlSerializers.dll is included. Anyone know why this is happening?
Is there any way to copy some extra files to installation folder(C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Apps..) when installing or updating clickone application? Because we use some outside support files for our application. Is it possible?
Is there any way to pass argument to clickone application short cut, like passing argument to .exe shortcut("\Global.exe" ?/?customer?/?)?
EDIT:
This is how I published
I checked by giving network path for publishing folder location. But same error coming.
Here is application files included
As you can see Global.XmlSerializers.dll is included
It is looking for a file on the D: drive. It is unlikely that your users all have their D drive mapped to the same location. When you publish you should use the full path rather than mapped drive letters.
//Servername/shareddirectory/appdirectory
Does the install work for you?
Well, there no magic involved in ClickOnce: you can just look into the deployment folder - is the required file there or not?
If not, you need to change the settings in the Publish options for the required file. This message - in my experience - is always a sign that one of the required assemblies has not been published.
In addition it seems that you published to a mapped network drive instead of publishing to an UNC path. You need to publish to a path following the \\server\name\ scheme.
When I have used the wizard and deployed to a network share, in the Publish Wizard:
Specify the location to publish this application:
UDP Path
Click Next
How will users install the application?
From a UNC path of file share
Specify the UNC path:
The same UDP Path (copy pasted from before)

Debugging Solaris OS crash

I have access to a remote Solaris terminal which crashes occasionally, and I have to ask someone with physical access to boot the machine up, which it does successfully. I would like to know which tools/files should I look at to find out the cause of the crash so that I can make the necessary configuration changes and avoid it in the future.
What tools you can use will depend on what version of solaris you have running and what the actual problem
is. The first thing to do is check the system console (which it sounds like you don't have access to) and the /var/adm/messages file. This file is updated with system messages and the newest will appear at the end.
Next, you can look for a system core file. If a core file is created, it would be in /var/crash/hostname where "hostname" is the name of the machine.
If you have an actual core file in the /var/crash/hostname directory, this set of commands will give you a good
string to search google with:
# cd /var/crash/hostname
Replace "hostname" with the hostname of your machine.
# mdb -k unix.0 vmcore.0
If you have multiple core files, select the most recent version.
> ::status
This should give you a panic message, cut and paste that into google and see what you can find.
