I'm working on a project that is basically a file upload "wizard" that basically does the following:
Entry form to select document library and enter some basic info.
Enter additional library-specific information.
Tie in some calendar events.
My goals are:
- Create this as a sandbox solution using Visual Studio
- Avoid hacks and reinventing existing functionality as much as possible.
Some SP features I have run across that might be useful:
- Content organizer feature.
- Association forms.
- Declarative workflows.
Possible approaches I've considered:
A content organizer library that kicks off a workflow on submission. Not sure what the user experience for this would be like. Really hoping to keep to a single link -> Next -> Next -> Done kind of approach.
A declarative workflow with custom actions containing all the complexity.
An association form in front of the built-in document upload form for each library with a follow-on association form for calendar events.
Is this feasible and if so which approach is simplest?
I think I've come to my own conclusions on this. I've decided to go with a Drop Off library as part of the Content Organizer built-in feature (#1 above). This appears to be the simplest approach so far since I can do the majority through configuration in the Entity.xml files of the features. Many of the other methods I tried seems like they would require functionality not available in a Sandbox solution.
In order to achieve this, I defined site columns and added them to custom Document Type, then added this Document Type to all libraries. Using the Drop Off library, I can define rules to move the file based on one of the fields in the custom Document Type. I'm hoping to do any follow-up steps as a workflow that kicks off on the Drop Off library when a file is uploaded or as an Associated Form.

I am trying to create some dynamic forms using Piranha CMS. As far as I managed to learn it is not supported right now, so I'm looking for work arounds or alternatives.
What I want to do now is use the editor from the manager for other users. To be more precise: this is how the editor looks like inside my manager when I want to edit a page
I have a text input and a select, both are Fields and there are many more fields to be used.
I want the sys admin to create a page with a list of inputs like this, which right now are usable only by the admin. BUT make this list of inputs available for edit to other users as well. Is it possible?
I'm not sure how to extract this editor or behavior or even if it is possible. The problem is we really need the admin to be able to configure different form inputs for users as it is the main core of our functionality.
Any help/advice is highly appreciated, thank you!
The components in the management UI is not designed to be reused in the front-end application in any way. The edit models in the manager contains a lot of extra meta data since the UI is completely generic. If you want to build an edit UI in your front end application, and you're using MVC or Razor Pages, the simplest way is to.
Get the generic model instead of your strongly typed model, for example api.Pages.GetById(...) instead of api.Pages.GetById<T>(...).
Loop the available fields in your selected region (a region is an ExpandObject which can be casted to an IDictionary<string, object>).
Use the built in support in Razor by calling #Html.EditorFor(...) for the fields.
Using this approach you can easily create your own EditorTemplates for the different types of fields you use that will match the rendering in your client application.

Is it possible to retrieve drl ex:https://host:port /ewebtop/drl/objectId/0900a58e80970f7b of document via .net application?.So that when users clicks on this link they can be able to edit the document and when they close the document the document should be autosaved onto documentum.
First of all: a link is a link. What you decide to do with it I u to you. Default handler in browser will just redirect you to webtop application. If you have SSO you can have the document opened for edit. There are some extra arguments that can be provided (view/edit).
The object id is the only varying part of the URL, so you can easily construct this in code.
Secondly: what is your goal? There is no way to make the document upload itself into Documentum repo. You can write a plugin for every application to handle that, but it seems like a big task - especially dealing with security.
The problem is that upon check-in, user must provide some information - at least about the new version number...
If you're building a thick client in .net I would go with DFS - that's the only real option here.
First of all, I have to say that I am NET developer (C#) and my knowledge on Dynamics 365 is pretty limited. Nevertheless my employer thought that I am good enough to make that thingy from post title :)
After couple of hours researching and reading, I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LwZLoXS6jo which address on how to create and send SMS from Dynamics. I am aware that this require me to create new Dynamics entities, at least SMSMessage and SMSMessageTemplate, but at least I found out how to do this :)
I understood everything stated there, but as i already said, due to my lack of knowledge on Dynamics 365, I got problems with (probably) basic things regarding Dynamics.
Here are those problems:
1. As far as I can tell, in order to build SMS gateway, first thing I need to do is to add new menu item inside Dynamics 365. I presume that this new menu item should reside inside 'Contacts' menu (contacts.jpg, marked with red box) but I am not sure on how to achieve this. Please note, I do not want someone to provide me with some magic solution, I just need someone to provide me with valid links that I can use to learn about this and solve my own problem :)
2. When new menu item is in place, and user click on it, I would like to open up a form for user to select SMS template that will be used and maybe setup some other values. Same again, U do not need to help me with exact code, just with some usable links :)
3. Inside that form that user will open on menu click, I would like to know how to get list of selected contacts (from grid at contact.jpg)
When I (finally) have that list of contacts, I will create SMS entities mentioned above (video link) and everything will fall in place and (hopefully) work.
I am aware that this is probably too much to ask, cause Dynamics 365 is rather complex, and people are spending great amounts of money and their time learning to became Dynamics developers, but without help, Dynamics is making me running in circles chasing my own tail :) and getting nowhere.
Also, I will be using online Dynamics 365 so bare in mind that any solution should work with it.
if any of U think that I missed or got something wrong, please let me know.enter image description here
So basically to get you started, you should:
1) Create a solution in Settings => Customizations => Solutions
2) Add contact entity to that solution (by choosing "Add existing" under Entities pane). Don't click "Add all assets" you will need only contact metadata to get going
3) Create jScript file and add a web resource to CRM (nothing really complicated, just go to web resources in you solution and click "Add new" and specify type of your web resource as jScript and target your file).
4) Now download http://www.xrmtoolbox.com
5) For now you are interested only in plugin "Ribbon Workbench"
6) Now simply choose your solution and contact - you will see command bars for contact homepage, list and form. This is pretty strainghtforward - simply drag and drop a button wherever you like, create a command using workbench and bind the button with the command (simply choose it from a drop-down). The command you are interested in is Custom Javacript. Here you specify your web resource and name of the function that you want to call. You can also specify parameters that should be passed inside your function for example ids of selected items (if you are on the list of records).
There are many approaches to fulfil your specific needs, but being able to call a custom javascript function from a button should be a good starting point, the rest is simply the knowledge of CRM SDK, so how to create an entity using API or open a form or open a web resource - everything is very well documented and you can get it simply by asking google, so I will not post any blog here, not to advertise too much. Also I's suggest downloading latest CRM SDK (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=50032) - you have many sample code there, regarding plugins and some form modifications, you should also check this out.
To make it easier for you, you should refer to this "menu" as "Command bar" or "Ribbon", so rather look for "adding custom button to command bar CRM 2016" and you will be all good. Also to make a form for choosing a template, you will probably need some custom web resource, so "creating custom html5 web resource CRM 2016" should give you some good examples.
I need to create a workflow that would break permission inheritance in a sharepoint subsite.
I am building a sharepoint 2010 site that is highly modular and can expand based on clients needs. The project requirement is that the client must be able to expand the website and add subsites from templates with as little interaction as possible. To this end I have created a list and attached a workflow to this list that creates a new website based on the information supplied in the list fields. The workflow I am using is a solution I found online http://www.ilovesharepoint.com/2011/02/create-site-action-sharepoint-designer.html
After the website is created I need to create security groups (another workflow I found online helps with this).
The problem is that the subsite must inherit security groups from the parent site and then I need to add new ones. In order to do this I need to break inheritance from the parent site and than I can create new groups. Currently my client has to do this manually - very bad thing. So I need create a workflow that would do just that.
The problem is that I am completely clueless as to how to go about doing this.
Ideally, I would like to create some sort of workflow action that would take a site url as input and then break permission. From what I've been able to find I need to use BreakRoleInheritance function to do that. but how do I create a workflow that takes input and how do i convert the string input into an actual site?
Like I said, I don't know anything about coding for sharepoint so please be as specific as possible.
Thank you very much.
P.S. maybe I am mistaken and i don't need to break inheritance to create additional security groups that would work only for a given subsite. If so, please tell me how to do this without breaking inheritance.
I'm looking for some clarity with regards to the use of Windows Workflow 4 in an integrated solution - specifically with regards to rehosting the designer and executing workflows created by eg. a business user.
Is the intention that the required custom activities are created and compiled into a dll, which is then deployed with the rehosted designer, allowing the business user to create/configure workflows that make use of these activities - the business user would then save the workflow as XAML, which can be stored in a location known to the application (database, filesystem etc.), and then when it is necessary for the application to execute a workflow, it can use XamlServices.Load to load the workflow from the specific location and execute it as a DynamicActivity?
How is the workflow saved so that it can later be reserialized with properties and other configuration values? I've tried deserializing a Xaml file saved out of the designer, and also using XamlServices.save().
Are there any potential issues here with using bookmarks/persistence?
As a related question, is there any easy way to "Go back" in a workflow, without defining return branches on every flowchart element? I'm looking at integrating a workflow with a UI for a user to enter responses, which the wf will process, and make decisions based on the input. Through the UI, the user should be able to "Go Back" to a previous input.
You can use the ActivityXamlServices.Load(path) to load a XAML file. It will return an Activity, actually a DynamicActivity, and you can use a WorkflowApplication to run it.
See my blog post for an exmple.
