Sorry if this has been asked before, I've been searching but not really finding my answer.
I have a blog that I developed (MVC 4, EF code first) and am using SQL Compact locally. Now I want to move to my hosting provider and when I script out the DB schema (using sql server compact toolbox) and run it against the SQL server - it prepends all my tables with my username. This apparently is causing my application to error out that it can't find tables such as 'dbo.Posts' because they're all prefaced with my username.
To clarify the error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid object name 'dbo.Posts'.
Connection string is correct. I can manage the db from SQL Management Studio.
Here's a screen shot of my local sql compact db:
Here's what my database looks like after migrating on the SQL server:
See the prefix?
And if you care here's the stack trace:

If I run LinqPad against my host's database, it works as expected, but not my MVC app using DBContext.
Ideas? What am I missing?
FIXED IT!!!
I logged in to the remote database via SQL management and changed the default schema for my User to "dbo". I then deleted my old tables and re-migrated... everything came up as "dbo.table-name". Ran my app - IT WORKS!
Ugh what a pain. As you can tell... I'm no DBA. ;)

I am new to MVC (using MVC4 and EF5) and I have been following the introductory tutorial (http://www.asp.net/mvc/overview/gett...adding-a-model) to create a model, controller,and the views. I want to create an "Orders" screen where all orders are displayed, etc, just so I can understand CRUD operations with EF but when I publish to the server I am getting an error.
The first thing I did was right-click the models folder and add a new class to create a model:
Imports System.Data.Entity
Imports System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.Schema
Imports System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations
<Table("Orders")> _
Public Class Orders
<Key()> _
<DatabaseGeneratedAttribute(DatabaseGeneratedOption.Identity)> _
Public Property OrderID As Integer
Public Property UserID As Integer
Public Property OrderDate As DateTime
Public Property OrderAmount As Decimal
End Class
Public Class OrdersDBContext
Inherits DbContext
Public Sub New()
MyBase.New("OrdersDBContext")
End Sub
Public OrderList As DbSet(Of Orders)
Public Property Orders As DbSet(Of Orders)
End Class
The next thing I did was add a line item into the Web.Config file:
<add name="OrdersDBContext" connectionString="Data Source=dbnumber.db.1and1.com,1433;Initial Catalog=db620663152;User Id=dbo620663152;Password=xxxxx;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
I built the project, eventually was able to create an "OrdersController" by right-clicking on the controller folder and selecting "Add Controller", making the appropriate selections in the wizard. Controller is now added. When I actually navigate to the newly-added orders area, I get the following error:
Server Error in '/' Application.

So, I am not really sure whats going on here. I am using a shared host and cannot access the database remotely; I also cannot have the code create a new database, the code needs to use the existing database and add the tables. This was fine for the account model (it created the necessary underlying tables for authentication/accounts). I think the issue here is that the code expects to create a new database (since the table for orders doesn't exist yet?).
If I am not off-base with my assumption, what should I do to tell my MVC app to use the existing data-source in the connection string rather than try and create a whole new database? I just basically want my application to create the tables with the given connection string in the web.config file.
Thanks for any advice.
I am new to web development. I am trying to follow the MVC tutorial for Movie DB using MVC 4 and EF Code First given at the URL below.
http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-4/getting-started-with-aspnet-mvc4/intro-to-aspnet-mvc-4
I created a simple project with the internet template and created a model mimicking a actual table in my DB as given in the tutorial. I then created a new model for a table based on my existing DB and thats when the problem started. Everything worked when the web.config was pointing to the localdb.
I changed the web.config to point to my actual database to see how the code works and for some reason which numerous users have posted, i get the DB permission error. Here is my model.
namespace MVCTest.Models
{
public class ProjectID
{
[Key]
public int ID{ get; set; }
public int TEMP_ID { get; set; }
public string STATUS { get; set; }
public string DESC{ get; set; }
}
}
This is my context. Controller was created based on this model and context.
using System.Data.Entity;
namespace MVCTest.Models
{
public class MVCDBContext : DbContext
{
// You can add custom code to this file. Changes will not be overwritten.
//
// If you want Entity Framework to drop and regenerate your database
// automatically whenever you change your model schema, add the following
// code to the Application_Start method in your Global.asax file.
// Note: this will destroy and re-create your database with every model change.
//
//System.Data.Entity.Database.SetInitializer(new System.Data.Entity.DropCreateDatabaseIfModelChanges<MvcMovie.Models.MvcMovieContext>());
public MVCDBContext()
: base("name=MVCDBContext")
// : base("Data Source=SERVERNAME;Initial Catalog=DBNAME;Integrated Security=True;")
{
}
public DbSet<Movie> Movies { get; set; }
public DbSet<ProjectID> ProjectIDs { get; set; }
}
}
The table is already there and I just wanted to do RUD operations to the actual SQL table as opposed to the one in the Local DB.
I have tried many options listed in stackoverflow and many other websites and nothing worked for me. The only option I have remaining is to go through EF Data First but I wanted to see if anybody has suggestions before I scrap this project and go to that.

Upon invoking my Google-fu I found this potentially applicable thread. For posterity (in case the thread is ever deleted or is otherwise inaccessible), here are the relevant bits (trimmed greatly for brevity):
Hello all I am currently trying to set up Umbraco, I am at the
step of installing the database but i get the following error
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: CREATE TABLE permission denied in database 'umbraco'.
[SqlException (0x80131904): CREATE TABLE permission denied in database 'umbraco'.]
Another site user responded as follows:
Are you sure you have permissions to create tables on your database?
You can check this by login in on your database under the same account as in your connectionstring. Then try to Create a Table, if that doesn't work fix the
usercredentials for that account.
Note: if you've followed the tutorial to the letter your connectionString should be set to the following in your Web.config file:
<add name="MovieDBContext"
connectionString="Data Source=(LocalDB)\v11.0;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\Movies.mdf;Integrated Security=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"
/>
Following this suggestion, the OP replied:
Thanks for the response. I found the problem. Right click the
database --> Permissions --> Select create table tickbox.
Could you follow these steps and see if it resolves your issue? If it doesn't then I'm afraid you'll have to wait for someone with some expertise in this area to come along and help you out, as all I can do is hit up Google for the answer.
I'm just new to Azure and I'm trying to make a website that would handle a form registration for a user. I used MVC4 and was able to deploy the website. However, whenever I try to access any Views that should show/add something to the database I get an error like this
Cannot find the object "dbo.PersonalDetails" because it does not exist or you do not have permissions.
I would just like to point out that everything functions locally and I'm able to add and show stuff from the website.
I also checked the sql database from Azure and was able to confirm that it has not created any tables at all. I'd also like to add that I've also done a similar website and did not encounter this problem at all. (Created a new website with a new sql database, from Azure)

Did you change your connection string in the web.config, or are you connecting locally to the azure db?
Can you post your connection string? (Make sure to remove the password first)
I am getting below exception when running my code from the host
When I run from my local machine connecting to the remote database everything works fine. Once deployed into the webhost the Simple Membeship Provider throws the below exception. I am using the same connection string in other controllers and there is no issues - connection to the database is fine.
This is the line I believe generates the exception:
WebSecurity.InitializeDatabaseConnection("MapEntities", "UserProfile", "UserId", "UserName", autoCreateTables: true);
Any clue? Thanks a lot.

Finally figured out what was wrong. There are references to the connection string on the the filter 'InitializeSimpleMembershipAttribute.cs' (where I had changed before) and on the model 'AccountModels.cs' (the one I didn't know).
So updating the connection string in the model was the solution.
One thing I don't understand is that it worked running on my local machine connecting to the remote db even with the "wrong" connection string.
I am creating an app on APPHARBOR and I have an entity model for querying the SQL server. The following String is givving me error:
<add name="TraxzDBEntities"
connectionString="metadata=res://*/Models.DBModel.csdl|res://*/Models.DBModel.ssdl|res://*/Models.DBModel.msl;
provider=System.Data.SqlClient;
provider connection string='Data Source=d5d3955e-1183-4e10-8892-9f9d005af0a8.sqlserver.sequelizer.com;
User ID=**;
Password=**;
Initial Catalog=dbd5d3955e11834e1088929f9d005af0a8;Integrated Security=true;
MultipleActiveResultSets=True'"
providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />

I wasted numerous hours on this, and idk what is wrong.. Please help.
There is seemingly some other connect string being used here. Are you setting a connect string in code as well?
in your asp.net mvc project what are all the connect strings in the web.config? Just the above?
Search your entire solution for the word "server"
To add to Adam's suggestion (which is probably the answer), in your code snippet you don't have a ; after Password=** (maybe you do in the real code though). And you are also using both username and password and Integrated Security=true; which doesn't make sense to me since Integrated Security=true; means to use the currently logged on user.
