Stack Exchange uses the following URL format for questions:
+-----------------------------------+-------+----------------------------+
| | ID | |
+-----------------------------------+-------+----------------------------+
| http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1234567/question-heading |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| http://stackoverflow.com/users /1234567/user-name |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Though the question loads without the question heading, ie. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1234567, then why does Stack Exchange use the question-heading and user-name part of the URL?
WordPress too uses a similar URL redressing.
Is this an SEO trick or some other thing?

Having keywords in your URL is a positive ranking factor for search engines. So putting the title, username, etc, is a great way to help a page rank well for the keywords on that page since, theoretically, a well written title and question will result in answers that will also contain important, and related, keywords in them.

I have a site with content that is being indexed by Google in 2, 3 or 4 different ways using the following variations:
http://site/folder/page
http://site/folder/page/
http://site/folder/page/view
and so on...
according to Google, this can be solved using rel="canonical" to indicate which of the above is the canonical page:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=139394
do we have native support for this in Plone?
if not, how do you deal with this? robots.txt? redirections on your web server?
Looks like the Quintagroup folks have addressed this with http://projects.quintagroup.com/products/wiki/qSEOptimizer and http://plone.org/products/quintagroup.canonicalpath.
It would be nice to PLIP something sensible into the core one of these days. SEO-friendliness has long been a core value of Plone.

I work for a company who help find people. I want to increase our SEO ranking by implementing phone numbers/directory on our site.
Main Goal: If someone searches for a phone number, our site should be listed higher than where it lists now.
Any suggestion, how and what can I implement?
Thanks
Look into microformats. It helps to highlight details like telephone numbers and all major search engines support them.

I have a couple websites on separate servers and IP's that link back with anchor text and all (dofollow), but my webmasters tools dashboard is always missing these links.
Any way to get around this?
Just typical HTML link back to the web design company I run.

Is there any relation between asp.net-mvc web application with that or not asp.net application could be fast in google result.
This Pro Webmasters questions covers this. It basically boils down to having lots of fresh content and quality links.

I'd like to know if listing a set of partner sites/blogs is useful for the pagerank growth.
Does Google see it as an incorrect act? I read somewhere that if people exchange links, google seeks it and marks as a bad technique.
If it doesn't matter, is the content of the linked site relevant?
That's called Link farming and it is a really bad SEO tecnique.
If you link to another page for SEO purposes, keep links relevant and in a way that are interesting to the readers.
