I have a basic subview that slides up 80 from the top of the screen when a button is pushed. I've created another class - AdvancedView - that inherits from UIView. What I would like to do Is first of all, push all the code that's responsible for creating this subview into it's own class: AdvancedView. I would then like to somehow set it to where the top 100 of the subview is show showing when the main view loads. I'm going to put a button at on the top showing portion of this subview that will toggle it up and down (I know how to code the button). I have a view with a generic rounded rect button that segues to another view. When users press the rounded rect it starts a fetch. I would like to have a spinning wheel replace the text ("Next") inside the rounded rect button while the fetch is processed.
I created the spinner:

But I don't know how to make it replace the text in the rounded rect button.

Create (or get a reference to) the button as usual, then, while handling the button click, create your spinner and set it as a subview of the button. It's probably also worth disabling the button to stop multiple clicks.

The easiest way to do it is to model it in Interface Builder. It is a UIView containing a UIToolbar and a UIPickerView.
Then create an outlet for the UIView and connect it.
If you then have a UITextField you can assign your custom view to its inputView property.

Alternatively you can add the picker to your main view...

I added a UIToolbar with a UIBarButtonItem for the 'done' button in my xib with the frame set so that it's not initially visible (y value equal to the height of the parent view).
Every time the user access the picker, I changed the frame (the y value) of the UIDatePicker and the UIToolbar with an animation so that it slides up along with the picker from the bottom of the screen similar to the keyboard.

The key here is to use the inputAccessoryView of the UITextField that you are planning on setting the UIDatePicker to.
You get the "Done" button in the toolbar using the ActionSheetPicker. Its is a great alternative to building it yourself.

Looking at the storyboard, we can see that when you click the "Role" box within "AddPersonTVC.h" (class at the top right of the storyboard), it pops up a class called "RollPickerTVCell.h"
Looking into RollPickerTVCell.h, we notice that the whole class is a subclass of "CoreDataTableViewCell"

I have a question that is perhaps very basic.
I`m building a custom cell, without a Xib file, all programmatically. In my CustomHell.m file I have basically only two methods: initWithStyle and layoutSubviews.

Try [self addSubview: storeName] instead of [self.contentView addSubview: storeName]
I create the views, UI elements etc programmatically.
I'm trying to animate views when they are added or removed. The problem is that only UIButton *button is being animated and it is animated wrong. I mean the button title comes from the top and the button itself comes from the right of the screen.

Transitions have to be applied to a view that doesn't get removed or added during the transition. You are adding the transition to self.view, but then you are removing self.view during the transition.
Try adding the transition to self.view.superview instead, like this:
[UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromLeft forView:self.view.superview cache:YES];
If that still doesn't work, are you sure this code is right:
[self.view addSubview:self.el.view];
self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor grayColor];
[self.view removeFromSuperview];
Literally, this code is saying:
add self.el.view as a subview to self.view
set background colour of self.view to gray
remove self.view from the screen
That means the first two lines are pointless because everything you do to the view is wiped out when you remove it from the screen. And removing the view is a weird thing to do during loadView - the end result would be the view would be nil after loading.
