Simple URL Rewrite Problems - apache

I'm having trouble re-writing a simple URL with .htaccess.
The URL I am trying to rewrite is:
http://www.domain.com/index.php?page=PAGE_NAME
I would like the PAGE_NAME to be directly after the domain, for example if PAGE_NAME is blog:
http://www.domain.com/blog
At the moment I have tried the following with no success:
RewriteRule ^/?([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)?$ index.php?page=$1
All help is really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
My current .htaccess file:
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
Options +FollowSymLinks
Options +Indexes
RewriteEngine On
ErrorDocument 404 /search.php?page=notfound
# Add WWW to URL
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^cristianrgreco\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.cristianrgreco.com/$1 [L,R=301]
# Remove trailing slashes from end of URL
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^\.cristianrgreco\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.+)/$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [L,R=301]
# Rewrite main page URLs
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index\.php\?page=([^\ ]+) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ %1? [L,R=301]
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)$ index.php?page=$1 [L,NC]
# Rewrite download URLs
RewriteRule ^download/([a-zA-Z0-9._-]+)/?$ download.php?file=$1
# Rewrite page navigation links
RewriteRule ^(.+?)/page-([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)?$ $1.php?currentpage=$2
# Rewrite article URLs
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^/?([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)/([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)/?$ articles.php?article=$2
# Remove file extension from PHP files
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{SCRIPT_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([^\.]+)$ $1.php [NC,L,QSA]
</IfModule>

Try adding the following to the .htaccess file in the root directory of your site.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
#add these next 2 lines if you need to redirect http://www.domain.com/index.php?page=PAGE_NAME to http://www.domain.com/PAGE_NAME
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /index\.php\?page=([^\ ]+) [NC]
RewriteRule ^ %1? [L,R=301]
#send request to index.php
RewriteRule ^([a-zA-Z0-9_-]+)$ index.php?page=$1 [L,NC]

Issue redirecting query string to path

I want to redirect a get query parameter to a path and maintain the ability to use the GET parameter in the code.
I struggle to find examples excluding the file extension so perhaps this is what is throwing me.
I have tried the below code but not getting expected results from it?
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/spares/$
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} pid=([0-9]*)$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /spares/%1 [R=302,L]
For example:
mysite.com/spares/?pid=x
to
mysite.com/spares/x
EDIT:
Copy of .htaccess in /dev/ subdirectory.
# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /dev/
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /dev/index.php [L]
</IfModule>
RewriteEngine On
# To externally redirect with pid
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s+spares/\?pid=(.*)\s [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /spares/%1 [R=301,L,NE]
# To internally rewrite to ?pid=
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} pid=(.+)$
RewriteRule ^dev/spares/$ /dev/spares/?pid=%1 [NC,L]
# END WordPress
Try with:
RewriteEngine On
# To externally redirect with pid
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/+spares/\?pid=(.*)\s [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /spares/%1 [R=301,L,NE]
# To internally rewrite to ?pid=
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} pid=(.+)$
RewriteRule ^spares/$ /spares/?pid=%1 [NC,L]

htaccess - redirect everything to index.php except a folder and specific files

I have been fighting with this for way too long. I have a my PHP site hosted with a .htaccess file for rewriting and redirecting. It has been working great so far. Now I simply want to add a subfolder, /pp that everything inside it does not get redirected or rewritten, basically it should not get touched by my .htaccess stuff.
Now when I go to mysite.com/pp/test.php (that file does exist), it redirects to mysite.com/index
Here is what I currently have:
RewriteEngine On
#remove www for all traffic
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.+)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://%1/$1 [R=301,L]
#prevent redirect of submit
RewriteRule ^/?submit$ submit.php [L]
#prevent redirect of paypal
RewriteRule ^/?admin$ admin.php [L]
RewriteRule ^/?testPPButton$ testPPButton.php [L]
# browser requests PHP
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /([^\ ]+)\.php
RewriteRule ^/?(.*)\.php$ /$1 [L,R=301]
# check to see if the request is for a PHP file:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/pp/.* [NC] // this line is not working for some reason
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]
Options -Indexes
Updated .htaccess:
RewriteEngine On
# skip /pp/* from all rules below
RewriteRule ^pp(/.*)?$ - [L,NC]
#remove www for all traffic
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.+)$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://%1/$1 [R=301,L]
#prevent redirect of submit
RewriteRule ^/?submit$ submit.php [L]
#prevent redirect of paypal
RewriteRule ^/?admin$ admin.php [L]
RewriteRule ^/?testPPButton$ testPPButton.php [L]
# browser requests PHP
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /([^\ ]+)\.php
RewriteRule ^/?(.*)\.php$ /$1 [L,R=301]
# check to see if the request is for a PHP file:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]
Options -Indexes
Just below RewriteEngine On line add this to skip pp/ and everything under this folder:
RewriteEngine On
# skip /pp/* from all rules below
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\s/+pp[/?\s] [NC]
RewriteRule ^ - [L,NC]
# rest of your rules go below this

How can I use .htaccess to hide extension and prevent user access with extension url?

here is my code for hide .html and .php extension when user view my site, http://example.com/xxx.html to http://example.com/xxx
But I hope to make user when they input http://example.com/xxx.html, they cannnot access and jump to 404 not found.
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
# Add trailing slash to url
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(\.[a-zA-Z0-9]{1,5}|/|#(.*))$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1/ [R=301,L]
# Remove .php-extension from url
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.php -f
RewriteRule ^([^\.]+)/$ $1.php
# Remove .html-extension from url
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html -f
RewriteRule ^([^\.]+)/$ $1.html
# End of Apache Rewrite Rules
</IfModule>
Anyone have solution?
You can add this as your first rule:
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \.(?:html|php)\s [NC]
RewriteRule ^ - [R=404,L]
Update
Perhaps this will fix your ErrorDocument problem:
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \.(?:html|php)\s [NC]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !=/error404.html
RewriteRule ^ - [R=404,L]

htaccess rewrite rules for pagination not working

I have the following in my htaccess:
Options +FollowSymLinks -Multiviews -Indexes
DirectoryIndex index.php
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
# To externally redirect /dir/file.php to /dir/file
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/+(?:index)?(.*?)\.php[\s?] [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1 [R=301,L,NE]
# To internally forward /dir/file to /dir/file.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/$1\.php -f [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.+?)/?$ $1.php [L]
Now, I am trying to add some pagination rules which left my htaccess file as follows:
Options +FollowSymLinks -Multiviews -Indexes
DirectoryIndex index.php
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
# To externally redirect /dir/file.php to /dir/file
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} \s/+(?:index)?(.*?)\.php[\s?] [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1 [R=301,L,NE]
# To internally forward /dir/file to /dir/file.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/$1\.php -f [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.+?)/?$ $1.php [L]
RewriteRule ^beta/network/showcase/category/(.*)/page/(.*)$ beta/network/showcase.php?category=$1&page=$2 [L]
RewriteRule ^beta/network/showcase/category/(.*)$ beta/network/showcase.php?category=$1 [L]
RewriteRule ^beta/network/showcase/page/(.*)$ beta/network/showcase.php?page=$1 [L]
RewriteRule ^beta/network/showcase/([0-9]+)$ beta/network/showcase_single.php?id=$1 [L]
They all work unless from this one:
RewriteRule ^beta/network/showcase/category/(.*)/page/(.*)$ beta/network/showcase.php?category=$1&page=$2 [L]
Which throws a 404 error as page not found:
The requested URL /beta/network/showcase/arts-entertainment/page/2 was not found on this server.
Why is that particular rule failing?
Thanks!
Issue was resolved per #anubhava response, I overlooked the '/category/' in the URL.

htaccess rewrite url redirect php file to folder

I want to redirect this php url to the folder.
I always used the settings below. But since the update of apache to 2.4 it doesnt work anymore.
Goal:
example.com/about.php?sub=about or example.com/about.php?sub= should be seen in the browser as example.com/about/
I use the following settings.
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^(example.com)(:80)? [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.*)/$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1/ [L,R=301]
RewriteRule ^about/$ about.php$1 [L]
RewriteRule ^about/([A-Za-z0-9-]+)$ about.php?sub=$1 [L]
This is what I am using now...
I don't see any rule in your code that is making /about.php?sub= to /about.
Try this code:
Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
# Turn mod_rewrite on
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,}\s/+(about)\.php(\?sub=[^\s&]*)?\s [NC]
RewriteRule ^ /%1? [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^about/?$ about.php?sub=about [L,NC,QSA]
RewriteRule ^about/([a-z0-9-]+)/?$ about.php?sub=$1 [L,NC,QSA]
# Add trailing slash
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule [^/]$ %{REQUEST_URI}/ [L,R]
