Acknowledge when method is one-way? - wcf

In wcf when i send to method which is one way-
I don't need to get answer now...
later,I need to get an answer for sure.
But how can I be sure that he got the message (to deal with it later )?
What about the 202 reponse ?

I think the article that you linked to does a nice job explaining it:
a one-way service call doesn't wait for the call to be processed, only
to be delivered - where delivery includes deserialization of the
request.
If you don’t get an exception then the message was successfully acknowledged as received.
IsOneWay introduces asynchronous aspects to your API. If you choose to go that route and you want to know what happened after the message was received, you’ll have to build that mechanism yourself. At a high level there’s nothing WCF specific about the solution. Either:
Call the service back and ask what the result was –OR–
Have the service call you back when its done

NServiceBus Saga/Handler Calling Wcf Service

Is anyone able to help me correctly call a Wcf service from within an NServiceBus Saga\Handler?
Presently I am making a synchronous call from within a Handler.
However, IIRC, in a while ago on the NServiceBus documentation pages it recommended using a Saga but provided no further details.
My understanding is that a Saga is preferred as it can be persisted while the Wcf call is being processed and then resumed to receive the response.
(The only other thought is that a Saga is preferred as they are generally longer running than Handlers).
What I need help with is the most appropriate way to resume the Saga instance on the reply from the Wcf service.

You actually wouldn't want the saga to call any external resource directly.
Instead, the saga would send a message to a handler and that handler would synchronously call WCF and then send a message back with the response.
If the call to WCF times out, the handler would do its automatic retry logic, or potentially the message might end up in an error queue.
The saga would then be able to deal with the logic of what to do if a response is not received within a certain period of time.

create WCF one-way (fire and forget) service out of XAMLX or how can a client call a service as one-way, if the operation is not defined one way

I am trying to create a XAMLX service that I can fire and forget.
But how can I do something like that with a XAMLX? I have no access to the Contract Interface to add the [OneWay] attribute.
I thought that if I did something like
and put the response before the rest of the activities, the service would return at that point but it didn't. It returns only after the whole workflow is completed.
IS it possible to make the service return at that point and than continue with the processing. the other activities would not affect the returned value of the service.
Is it possible to create a fire and forget XAMLX service
Can I somehow make the client fire a normal service as oneWay, if the previous 2 points are not possible?
If you want one-way processing your Receive activity should not have any corresponding SendReply activity.
The reason the response isn't send immediately is the way the workflow scheduler works internally where it waits for the workflow to go idle. Nothing much you can do about the scheduler but if you add a Delay below the SendResponse with a duration of 1 millisecond.
As Ladislav said, remove the SendResponse and you get a one way message.
Not quite sure what you want with fire and forget. If you start a workflow service it will keep on running even if you don't send any more WCF requests to it. Even if it is long running or does other async work. No problems there.

NServiceBus design ideas

Can any developers/architects with experience with NServiceBus offer guidance and help on the following?
We have a requirement in the business (and not a lot of money) to create a robust interface between an externally hosted application and our internal ERP's (yup, more than one).
When certain activities take place in the third party application they will send us the message. i.e. call a web service passing various fields of information in the message etc. We are not in control nor can we change this third party application.
My responsibility is creating this web service and the processing of the messages into each ERP. The third party dictates how the web service will look, but not what its responsible for. We have to accept that if they get a response back of 'success' then we at this point have taken responsibility for that message! i.e. we need to ensure as close to perfect no data loss takes place.
This is where I'm interested in the use of NServiceBus. Use it to store/accept a message at first. At this point I get lost, I can't tell what should happen, i.e. what design follows. Does another machine (process) subscribe and grab the message to process it into an ERP, if so since each ERPs integration logic differs do I make a subscriber per ERP? A message may have two destination ERP targets however, so is it best the message is sent and not subscribed to.
Obviously in the whole design, I need to have some business rules which help determine the destination ERP's and then business rules that determine what actually takes place with in each ERP. So I also have a question on BRE's but this can wait although still may be a driver for what the message has to do.
so:
Third party > web service call > store message (& return success) > determine which ERP is target > process each into ERP > mark message complete
If anything fails along the lines making sure the message does not get lost. p.s. how does MSMQ prevent loss since the whole machine may die ? is this just disk resilience etc?

This sounds like a perfect application for NServiceBus.
Your web service should ONLY parse the request from the third and translate it into an NServiceBus message, which it should Bus.Send(). You don't respond with a 200 status code until that message is on the Bus, at which point, you are responsible for it, and NServiceBus's built-in error/retry and error queue facilities become your best friend.
This message should be received by another endpoint, but it needs to be able to account for duplicate messages or use idempotence so that duplicates aren't a problem. If the third party hits your web service, and the message is successfully placed on the bus, but then some error prevents them from receiving the 200 response code, you will get duplicates from them.
At this point, the endpoint receiving the MessageFromWebServiceCommand message could Bus.Publish() a SomeBusinessEventHappenedEvent that contains the command data.
For each ERP, create an additional endpoint that subscribes to the SomeBusinessEventHappenedEvent and uses your business logic to decide what to do respective to that ERP. In some cases, that "something" may be "nothing". Keep idempotence in mind here too, because if the message fails it will be retried.
All the other things you're worried about (preventing loss of messages, what happened if machines die) will be taken care of thanks to NServiceBus and MSMQ being naturally resilient to such problems.

WCF Detect When Message First Arrives?

I have a self hosted WCF 4.0 service with an HTTPS endpoint. I have method that writes some trace info after the message comes in. However, some messages are 400k in size, so there is a long wait conceivably between when WCF has it and my console app has it. How can I get a hook or interception layer in there so I can at least know when a message is first coming in?
I think there is a WCF Performance Counter related to this, so there must be some way to know...

This is not the same as Detect WCF client open channel operation , this is about knowing when the HTTP traffic first comes in. Maybe its not that I need to monitor things on my WCF service, maybe I need to monitor some other WCF layer that is intercepting HTTP. Can anyone say?
What about making a custom MessageEncoder that simply wraps the default implementation, but overrides ReadMessage() and logs some information before calling the wrapped implementation (which creates a Message instance)? At this stage the full message isn't even fully streamed over the wire, hence it's a very early point of the processing pipeline. Obviously, however, you don't know anything about the message yet. But if you want to get a timestamp, that might be a convenient place to get it.
One option is implement the IDispatchMessageInspector interface for your service with your message size checking code in the AfterReceiveRequest method override. Your code should look something like the code in this blog post.

Is there an nServiceBus sample for Pub/Sub with WCF?

It's a really common pattern and I'm finding it a nightmare to implement!

The WcfIntegration sample is almost what I'm looking for in that it receives messages via a WCF endpoint. However, it receives messages back on itself. I want a separate subscriber.
So what I'm trying to do is merge the WcfIntegration and pub/sub samples.
The real need is for a website to call a class library, which then calls the WCF endpoint of the publisher.
A subscriber then picks receives a message that the publisher publishes, and does whatever with it.

You shouldn't need the interface IEventMessageService; NSB handles that for you.
In my local example, I mapped the messages to myself. For you this would be:

You also need to move your Publish to the actual handler. Right now, it is only happening once (at startup):

Make sure your infrastructure is primed, i.e. the queue is transactional, and MSDTC is running.
I'm willing to bet that since there is no mapping, once the service is called, it doesn't know where to put the messages (it calls Bus.Send() internally). I didn't look at the subscribers since that didn't seem to be the issue.
