Installation button using AS3.0 in Flash - pdf

I havent seen this question asked here yet, which makes me wonder if its a common question at all! But hopefully someone out there knows!
I'm creating a catelog for the business I work for and the index page has to be done in Flash (I have no acess to the old program used). Basically how the CD Cat works (at least the old ones I have) you put the disc in, it auto launches, and an index pops up. On that index there are 3 links, Install, View, and Website (pluss an exit button). The Install button when pressed launches InstalShield Wizard which begins to then download the PDF files for the Cat (right now the catelog is comprised of the index page, and PDF files. If you click the 'view' button it goes to a PDF index of all the companies products.) and a link to the website. Basically when the whole thing is done installing, there are 2 icons on the desktop: one brings you to the website and one opens a downloaded copy of the CD Cat. Just the PDF files though.
I have no idea what program was used in creating the origional catelog index, and I tried contacting the person who did it but he doesnt remember (this was several years ago and he left nothing for me to go on). I'm entirely new to Flash, only just learning, and so something like creating a download button is daunting to me. I dont even know where to begin! If anyone could spare some info or even where I could go to learn more about this, please let me know. Thank you!

This is basically an autorun CD with a flash projector on it. A Flash projector is a self contained flash executable.
Article on Autorun CD like that was made:
http://www.webwasp.co.uk/tutorials/a24-autorun-CD/index.php
You can make a regular windows autorun pretty easily but making a hybrid that runds on mac and windows is quite a bit tougher.
In order to copy over PDFs or do system type commands you will need to use 'fscommand' which can run executables and even windows batch files.
How to run executables is covered here:
http://www.wuup.co.uk/as3-how-to-run-applications-from-a-flash-projector-exe-with-actionscript-3-and-batch-files
The fscommand reference is covered here:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/system/package.html?filter_flash=cs5&filter_flashplayer=10.2&filter_air=2.6
Hope this helps.

VB.Net application highlights all files in background when running / getting focus

I have an App that I inherited in VB6 and have ported mostly to VB.net
When I compile / run the app - it highlights all the files in the current selected folder.
What makes it worse, is it's very difficult to search online as what search terms does one use?
The app was ported to VS 2005 - quite successfully - but this has me stumped...
I have tried commenting out all the code that's run on startup and it still does it, so it must be some sort of background thing...
Any ideas?
I can't find an old version of my app to see if it's changes I have made and I don't know where to begin. See the image:
The top part is before I run the app, the bottom is once the app is running and has focus. I hope it makes sense
Also, if I'm browsing and then run the app, and go back to the browser, when my app gets the focus again, the webpage goes back to the top...
The folder is just an example - Basically when I compile (or later run) my App, if I go to Windows Explorer - when the app gets focus - whatever folder I am in has all its files highlighted. If instead of going to Windows Explorer, I go to a web browser, when the app gets focus the browser goes to the top (similar to Home).
There is Windows Integratio, but I have commented out what I can and still am no closer.
Does this info help?
I found the problem - after going back to the vb6 project and removing everything except for the 5 modules needed to startup and I eventually tracked the problem.
There was some code being called when two edit boxes received focus which called send keys home and end - hence it would go home - select all files to the end. I had deactivated one of the edit boxes to not receive focus and it helped temporarily(obviously until the other box got focus), but since deactivating the send keys when they get focus has helped. Albeit an arbitrary problem, maybe it will help someone in the future..

Add more one button on Attach menu of Whatsapp

I've an idea to develop a modification to WhatsApp, for example now when I click attachment symbol it shows only 6 I want to add one more option to it. If it's possible let me know. I want to add more one button on Attach menu.
It is not clear what exactly you are asking.
You have an option to launch other applications from your app.
If you want to change the way a certain app looks, or behaves you have to write something similar to it for people to use, but you cannot change the original app (no one will let you)
Here you go! it's possible, as #Jef said in comments.
using documentation interaction controller.
https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/iphone/23559013
you need to work on how to hook into attachment menu.
https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/UIKit/Reference/UIDocumentInteractionController_class/
There is an assumption in your question that these other apps are put there by the whatsApp developers, or by a third party who was somehow able to modify their code. I suspect that what is happening is that they (whatsApp) simply export a document/file of a certain type (UTI) If your application supports that same UTI it should appear here. So there is six buttons for you, on your phone, but another user might see a different number, it depends entirely what they have installed on their device.
CONCEPTUAL.. if you double click on a file on your computer then the file browser (OS) opens that file with some application or other. Perhaps it is a .doc file and the OS pushes that file to word or pages. Or it may be a .psd file and it gets pushed to photoshop. How does this happen? The OS has a registry (database) of applications for each file type, applications sign up on this when they install/update. If you right click on a file you see an 'open in..' option that lists all your applications which can handle that file type, this is the menu that you are wanting to get onto (for whatsApp's file type) imho.
So you need to
1 ascertain what file type (UTI) WhatsApp is exporting
2 declare support for that file type in your application (this is the bit which will be platform specific solution) (iOS docs https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/FileManagement/Conceptual/DocumentInteraction_TopicsForIOS/Articles/RegisteringtheFileTypesYourAppSupports.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40010411-SW1 )
**edit/addition
3. add the code to actually handle the file when your app receives it. On iOs this is in the appDelegate in
-(void) application: openURL: sourceApplication:annotation:
If the Whatsapp people have published an API then thats where you want to look. Good luck

Creating a help book for Mac app

I've taken a look at the Apple docs for creating help files that use the built-in help menu at the Apple doc site. I think I have a pretty good grasp on the concepts, as long in the tooth as they may be. I searched a bit further on the web for a shorter tutorial-ish way to do something, in my opinion, rather simple. I found a bunch and most describe a process found here.
However, for the life of me I can't get it working on 10.9 using Xcode 5.0.2. I have created the help files, added the Apple hooks in the header of the html file, run the Help Indexer, added the files to Xcode, and added both CFBundleHelpBookFolder and CFBundleHelpBookName to my Info.plist. The help menu item opens Help, however it does not open my help file. I get a page that says "The selected topic is currently unavailable."
Does anyone out there have a better tutorial to create a very simple help book and get it working?
I understand your confusion. When I first tried to add a Help Book to my application, it never seemed to work, but eventually using the Apple Help Programming Guide it got there. I found I had to actually install the app into /Applications before the system would find it. (I am not sure if this is strictly necessary).
NOTE I am not sure the link you listed is correct. The Apple Help Programming Guide states:-
Select the help bundle in the Add Files dialog and click Add.
Select the “Create Folder References for any added folders” radio button and click Add
PS I suggest you examine the Package Contents of your app, and check that it actually does contain the Help Book.

Forms open and load very slow. Sometimes they won't open

I have a relatively small VB winforms project.
It is currently used to launch numbers hyperlinks and some apps on a server.
There are a couple functions that do all the work, but the it really boils down to:
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("iexplore.exe", urlVar)
or if it is an app sitting on the server, the variable passed into the function appLinkVar will contain the need file path to launch the application.
System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(appLinkVar)
The "items" are stored on a SQL Local Database (.mdf)
Id, appName, appLink, appClickCount, appFavList, anddecision, which tells the function if it is calling a website or opening an executable.
Currently, there are forty rows in the database and I project 150+ in the end that need to be updated centrally and often (weekly). But that's a different question for later. The reason I added in it in this question was for insight as to why I am using a database instead of a Setting or XML file for some links. (better suggestions welcome)
My admin main form loads Visible = False and loads the icon in the system try. So you can't actually see the first form that opens. It is a hidden admin window and it's main purpose is to put the icon in the system tray. The green RJ icon - http://snag.gy/VBa6c.jpg
Then all of the app interaction is around the notify icon. Example: the app loads on hover. right-click for settings and options etc.
Once the primary form loads, on mouse over the "Primary Label" for example and the white form to the left appears and so on. Not much to it. http://snag.gy/excKr.jpg
The Frequently Accessed items is currently stored on the database called appClickCount, this will be coming off of the database and to another recommended way of storing the data. But when I initially added the database, I noticed some lag in the main form loading. It would take it 5-7 seconds to populate the Frequently Accessed Items List and so on. So I changed the code from mainWindow.show() to mainWindow.visible(). Worked great for me. opened and closed very quickly. But after some use today by a tester, the application became almost unresponsive. He clicked on the notification icon numerous times and the app failed to load. Then threw a SQL time out error. It was the end of the day and I couldn't grab a screenshot.
I need to make this more reliable.
After some discussion the other day on SO, I was talking to someone that recommended I re-write the app in C# WPF, and that is definitely the plan. But I need this thing to past testing as is in VB this week. Where can I start troubleshooting the delay in opening? What other suggestions do you have to improve the application? Do I need to have an invisible form load first so I have access to a system tray icon or is there a better way?
I have talked to quite a few people on here lately and got some really good advice, I figured I would lay it all out here and see what input you guys can give a new guy... I'm also gonna go hang in the C# room for a little bit if you have any further questions.

how would i move a folder or the contents from one place to another Via code in Xcode?

Im trying to make a mac app that copies and pastes a folder to another location but i can find a tutorial on how i go along and make an app for the mac what its per pose is A app that makes it easy to move mod files to a games file system. Yes i know theres lots of apps that goes the same but i want to make my own. The structure is theres six NSTextFields three for the mods folders and three for the games folder system like (Mod's Parts Path, Mod's Plugin Path, Mod's Plugin Data Path, Game's Parts Path, Game's Plugin Path and Games's Plugin Data Path). Ive looked on stackflow and Google and couldn't find on tutorial on how to do this maybe im looking in the wrong places. The game that its manly for is for KSP (Kerbal Space Program)
What did you googled? You will need a simple gui application with 6 Labels, 6 TextFields and one Button. There will be one function linked with that button. That function will use data from TextFields and NSFileManager's copyItemAtPath:toPath:error: method.
Google something like "osx first app" or "xcode TextField tutorial" for the details on how to create an app with TextField and Button.
