How can I display a Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Report in an iPad App? - objective-c

This is more of a general "how do I get started" question. I would like to display my company's SSRS Integrated Sharepoint Reports in an iPad App, but I'm not sure where to start. Googling this concept didn't return any results.
We would like a native feel without displaying the reports in a Web View container.
Any ideas?

Maybe you can use the webservice to get the parameters and build a little query interface. You'd have to figure out what to put in your dropdown boxes I believe.
Get params with that and then submit call the render method which would return the report to you in the desired format. Be sure to read the remarks there.
I have no clue if this would actually work. My organization built an interface like this for reporting services 2000, but it used the URL-based submitting method.

Using the web service is definitely your best bet. You should be able to query all the parameter information you need from the service and then render it in various formats (html is probably your best bet).
I know it's definitely doable, as I've used the web service to build custom scripts that render and and send out PDF versions of reports. It would essentially be the same task. You can find plenty of information on the web for working with it.

With SQL Server 2012 SPI, you can now access a SSRS report from an iPad by browsing the SharePoint library or viewing the report in a Web part.

Desktop admin panel for web app

I'm building a eCommerce web application for shops using Laravel/Foundation/PostgreSQL, and it will provide them (shop owners) with web based admin panel. My question is, can I make the super admin panel (the tool that I use to control everything) using desktop technology such as VB.net (or anything similar) so the desktop app control the database and maybe some configuration files. Is this considered good way to do things, and do anyone have a similar experience here?
Yes,it's possible to create such application.This kindda application can be called somewhat 'Database Applications'...Let me explain :
1 • You can develop such app in either C#/Vb.NET
2 • Basically, what you need is an app which will let you modify the database(e.g. Product name/Price/Quantity)
3 • For this, you need to first set up a connection between your app and your PostGre database.Take a look at [this)
4 • Then you can use textboxes,checkboxes,Listboxes and other controls you want to edit/delete/update the database . For this, take a look at this for inserting data and this for updating data .They are in c# but can easily be converted to vb.net using converter.telerik.com or simillar conversion tools

Web app idea directions

I have an idea for a web app project, however, due to not having any programming knowledge, I'm first asking here for directions. Essentially, I wonder if the idea is realistic and what the most effective way could be for me to tackle it.
I want to combine several open-data sources, some in the form of API's (e.g. Google maps), others in the form of statistics in Excel sheets. Like a Mashup of different sources? The idea is to use the data to perform some data crunching and in effect provide some insights from this data in an aggregated way. I have previously played around with dashboards during an internship and I am attracted by the idea to maybe produce a Single page application for my idea with some visualisation. Any thoughts on this?
I have looked at the following services online, but I have no idea if they can help me produce a web app which aggregates different data sources and that allows for nice presentation:

Desktop application accessible by multiple users

I have a desktop application [Data Analysis and Report Generation] built in VB. I would like to make this application accessible to all the users in our corporation, from their web browsers. What is the best possible way to achieve this?
One way which I have thought is to write a simple web form that would take the input from the user and apply logic on the server and generate results. Again, the limitation would be at the output screen as it is the real time output being generated.
Any leads would be highly appreciated.
Desktop App is way different from web app. To allow multiple users, a web app is suitable. For this you will have to use several technologies.
The UI has to be build using html, css and javascript (like jQuery).
The back end, can be VB if you are doing working with asp.net or php etc.
For real time output, you'll have to use ajax to allow communication between a browser and sever without page refreshes
An ideal choice for the front end logic, would be to use a frontend framework such as AngularJs by google.
However, all this does have a high learning curve and is difficult to build something using all this on the first day or even week unless you already know most of this.

Getting useful error messages from CRM 2011 in Silverlight

Disclaimer: This is NOT a duplicate of this thread. First, in my case, there's no middle-tier service. Secondly, I'm working with SL 5 and CRM 2011.
I'm developing Silverlight applications to work with MS CRM 2011. These applications are part of a CRM Solution and are meant to be used in CRM Online.
This is important: I CANNOT write extra web services or modify web.config files which are part of CRM, as I cannot do these things with CRM Online.
Usually my applications just need the OData service, and there are no issues in these cases. But one application needs to use the SOAP organization service, and here the trouble starts.
Apart from some problems getting it to work (as I need to create OrganizationRequests from scratch), there's a big problem getting meaningful exception messages from that service. SL will happily always return 404, which isn't helpful at all to the user.
I've tried using
WebRequest.RegisterPrefix("http://", System.Net.Browser.WebRequestCreator.ClientHttp);
WebRequest.RegisterPrefix("https://", System.Net.Browser.WebRequestCreator.ClientHttp);
as described in this article but that turned out to cause problems in one situation with IFD and ADFS (even though this solution was otherwise perfect).
In case of an error I really need to be able to give the user some meaningful information ("Not found" is hardly ideal).
What should I do to get some useful error messages out of CRM?

Please note I'm talking about the Organization service, NOT the OData service! I've no problems getting some useful information to display for the user from the latter.
I want to point this out, because of this thread which, at first glance, seems to be perfect, but then it turns out (given the accepted answer) that it was for OData all along.
Try see this article from Microsoft, i never used and i don't know if it can be applied in CRM. It's a very interesting article, so take a look.
I ran into a similar problem / error when uploading a Silverlight 5 XAP to CRM 2011 Online.
In order to get useful message, open CRM in IE navigate to your Silverlight resource, hit F12 for the IE Debugger, and go to the Network tab ( see screenshot ).

Google Analytics for Mac OSx application

Is it possible to use Google Analytics API's to track Mac OSX applications?
If not could any one suggest me an alternative for Google Analytics.
Google Analytics is designed to work with web applications not for desktop apps. Although it might be possible to collect info about your application and send it to your Google Analytic account but the amount of work required to retrofit might be better spent, building your own Analytic solution.
A good starting point would be to create a simple web service, which collects information regarding clicks. Then rewrite your application to call that web service on every click within your application.
You would ideally want to store this information locally and submit it to the web service in batches. You would also want to design the application, so that if you ever shut down the web service, the application would still be able to operate.
UPDATE: As pointed out in the comments by Václav Slavík, they have added apps analytics for iOS/Android.

Google Analytics is not only for web applications, but also for mobile. It's available on the platform like android, iOS, etc. If you want to track your MAC OS X application, you can choose DeskAppTrack or DeskMetrics. DeskAppTrack is only available on MAC. It provide a professional data statistical analysis and it's free. While DeskMetrics is available on MAC and Windows. Either one is ok.
This really depends on how detailed you want to get. If you are are truly looking for analytics with detail and control flow data, you are better suited to created your own web service, as mentioned.
However, if you simply want to know a small number of operations, that occur at a small volume, i.e. when the app is launched (a quick and dirty solution): then in theory you could create a landing page on your site that contains a minimal head section, and a blank body, and then load the URL with an NSURL when you want to trigger the action.
Of course, you would have to include the google analytics tracking codes in the header, and you may need to load an off-screen webview to get the javascript to run. Like I said, quick and dirty.
In either case, you want to make sure the application will continue to perform properly, even if the web service / page is not present.
