I am trying to develop an app in XCode that will switch to a new view upon rotation.
Here is the code for view1controller.h:
#import UIKit/UIKit.h
#interface TestViewController : UIViewController {}
IBOutlet UIView *portrait;
IBOutlet UIView *landscape;
#property(nonatomic,retain) UIView *portrait;
#property(nonatomic,retain) UIView *landscape;
#end
and here is the code for view1controller.m:
#import "view1controller.h"
#implementation TestViewController
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation
{
if(((interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft) || (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight)))
{
self.view = landscape;
} else if (((interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait) || (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown))) {
self.view = portrait;
}
return YES;
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning {
// Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview.
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
// Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use.
}
- (void)viewDidUnload {
// Release any retained subviews of the main view.
// e.g. self.myOutlet = nil;
}
- (void)dealloc {
[super dealloc];
}
#synthesize portrait,landscape;
#end
Anyway so the app opens but it crashes upon opening.
Try something like:
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation
{
if(interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft)
{
self.view = landscapeleft;
}
if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait)
{
self.view = portrait;
}
if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown)
{
self.view = portraitupsidedown;
}
if (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight)
{
self.view = landscapeleft;
}
return YES;
}
Your brackets in your header are misplaced.
#interface TestViewController : UIViewController {
IBOutlet UIView *portrait;
IBOutlet UIView *landscape;
}
#property(nonatomic,retain) UIView *portrait;
#property(nonatomic,retain) UIView *landscape;
#end
Also, #synthesize portrait,landscape; needs to go under #implementation TestViewController
#implementation TestViewController
#synthesize portrait,landscape;
Notice the UIView's in this image:
I would do the following:
if(((interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft) || (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight)))
{
[portrait removeFromSuperview];
[self.view addSubview:landscape];
} else if (((interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait) || (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown))) {
[landscape removeFromSuperview];
[self.view addSubview:portrait];
}
Hope this helps!

I have a parentViewController that calls a modal ViewController with Delegate UITableViewController. The problem is that I do not have navigation stack to get the value from the parent's shouldAUtoRotate.
Since the shouldAutorotate never fired it gets it from a main controller where return NO and this cannot be changed. Is there a way to manipulate the modal controller to get the proper shouldAutorotate set to YES?
- (void)willRotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)toInterfaceOrientation duration:(NSTimeInterval)duration {
[self.pv dismiss:YES];
[super willRotateToInterfaceOrientation:toInterfaceOrientation duration:duration];
}
- (void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation {
if(UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPhone) {
if(UIInterfaceOrientationIsLandscape(self.interfaceOrientation)) {
//[self fullScreenAction:nil];
} else {
// [self exitFullScreenAction:nil];
}
}
}
-(BOOL)shouldAutorotate
{
return YES;
}
-(NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations
{
if(UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad) {
return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskAll;
} else {
return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskAllButUpsideDown;
}
}
//ios >=6
- (UIInterfaceOrientation)preferredInterfaceOrientationForPresentation
{
return UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait;
}
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation
{
return (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad) ||
(interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait) ||
(interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft) ||
(interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight);
}
I managed to solve my problem although is not the best solution, maybe for some will be useful.
So i create a new Category Controller in order to use it to set manually the Rotation calls.
.m
#import "UINavigationController+AutoRotate.h"
#implementation UINavigationController (AutoRotate)
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotate {
return YES;
}
- (NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations {
return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskAll;
}
- (UIInterfaceOrientation)preferredInterfaceOrientationForPresentation {
return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskAll;
}
#end
and .h
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#interface UINavigationController (AutoRotate)
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotate;
- (NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations;
- (UIInterfaceOrientation)preferredInterfaceOrientationForPresentation;
#end
And then the Modal was working as it should without a navigation controller.
I was wondering if anyone has any idea how to connect a text field with a slider. I want the slider to list numbers from 1-100 or 1-1000. I've looked places but there is no true answer to what I'm looking for. Your help would be greatly appreciated
ViewController.h
#interface ViewController : UIViewController {
IBOutlet UISlider *mySlider;
IBOutlet UITextField *myTextField;
}
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UISlider *mySlider;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITextField *myTextField;
- (IBAction) sliderValueChanged:(id)sender;
- (IBAction) changeButtonPressed:(id)sender;
ViewController.m
#import "ViewController.h"
#implementation TutorialProjectViewController
#synthesize mySlider, myTextField;
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
self.myTextField.delegate = self;
}
- (IBAction) sliderValueChanged:(UISlider *)sender {
myTextField.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#" %.1f", [sender value]];
}
- (IBAction) changeButtonPressed:(id)sender {
NSString *textValue = [myTextField text];
float value = [textValue floatValue];
if (value < 0) value = 0;
if (value > 100) value = 100;
mySlider.value = value;
myTextField.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%.1f", value];
}
- (BOOL)textFieldShouldReturn:(UITextField *)textField {
[myTextField resignFirstResponder];
//[put your textfield name here resignFirstResponder];
return NO;
}
#end
Change Slider Value:
I'm assuming you want to update the text field's text as the slider is changed.
You don't connect the two. You need to listen for changes to the slider's value. In the method that you setup for this, you need to convert the slider's value to the text you want. You then update the text field's text with this new text based on the slider's value.
The hook for the slider:
[someSlider addTarget:self action:#selector(sliderUpdate:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventValueChanged];
The method that listens to the slider:
- (void)sliderUpdate:(UISlider *)slider {
float newVal = slider.value;
NSString *newText = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", (int)newVal];
someTextField.text = newText;
}
This code assumes the slider is referenced in the someSlider ivar and the text field is referenced by the someTextField ivar. It also assumes the slider's minimumValue is 0 and the maximumValue is 100 or 1000 as needed.

I want to implement iAd in my viewController so that i created the singleton class for iAd here the code that i used but it doesnt display iAd in my viewController.

This is how i implemented the singleton class for iAd when i excute this i didnt get iAd displayed over my ViewController.
If anyone know how to implement this please help me to get out of this issue. Thanks in Advance.
Im writing an App for iPad using Orientation.
The App-Delegate.h has a window, an UIViewController, an UINavigationController and an UITabbarController:
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet LoginRVC *loginRVC;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet ChooseCameraRVC *chooseCameraRVC;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITabBarController *hauptRVC;
Every Controller uses the "shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation"-method to autorotate itself.
i change the views using:
[UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL];
and then
[loginRVC.view removeFromSuperview];
[_window addSubview:chooseCameraRVC.view];
and the other way around too, ofc.
So my problem is, when i am in the second view (chooseCameraRVC) and switch the orientation, then go back to my first view, its not rotated. It do autorotate but after the animation is completed.
I tried many things like calling "shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation"-method of all views, not removing the views from window ... but no success til now.
Is this maybe a "feature" of the simulator? (i hope not).
Pls help me.

Ok. I prepared my source code to be presented here.
Note: I didn't copy the methods which only has [super ...] within or are completely commented out.
At first the AppDelegate.h:
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#import "ChooseCameraRVC.h"
#import "LoginRVC.h"
#interface NetCoWatchAppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate>
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window;
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet LoginRVC *loginRVC;

AppDelegate.m:
#import "NetCoWatchAppDelegate.h"
#import "LoginRVC.h"
#import "ChooseCameraRVC.h"

I hope u can find the problem.
Greetings. $h#rky
now i found my mistake. as u can see i have the views as variables in the app delegate. so if the second view changes the orientation, the other ones didn't know a thing about it. if the view now changes the "new" one recognizes the orientation change AFTER the animation, so while the animation is running, the "new" view has the wrong orientation.
So if u want to switch a view, just create a new one because it gets initialized with the right orientation.
kind regards
$h#rky
For support all orientations your viewcontroller should implement shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation like this:
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation {
return YES;
}
Every viewcontroller should implement this method for support required orientations.
Check also Supported interface orientations item in .plist file. Maybe you have wrong parameters.
Try this in your secondviewcontroller
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation
{
UIViewController *controller = [self.navigationController.viewControllers objectAtIndex:0];
[controller shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:interfaceOrientation];
return YES;
}
Hope it works..!!:)
Hi I am trying to develop a new app on the ipad. I am using a spitTableView and adding a ModalPresentationPage to the view. This works perfectly on the xcode iPad sim but crashes on my iPad. just so you know I am using xcode 5BATA and running IOS 5 on my iPad.
here is my code

Parts not under NDA :-
You are leaking items in both the split view delegate methods.
Are you sure the XIB name is modalViewController? There could a problem of it being case sensitive on the device.
