So I am fairly noobish at .htaccess rewriting.
Currently this is my setup for my codeigniter setups:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !index.php
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L]
This works fine when I am rewriting EVERYTHING to the index.php. The problem is, I am trying to install a forum to www.site.com/forums/ and of course this doesnt work because it rewrites it to the main index.php.
Any suggestions?

Generally speaking, the
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
rules should prevent existing files or directories from being rewritten to index.php, but you can also duplicate the
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^public.*
rule to be
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^forums.*
and it should accomplish the same goal, in your case.

I am trying to rewrite the url 'test' to a subdirectory in /public. This is a Laravel App end I want to run the content in public/test independend of Laravel so I should be prevented to go through the Laravel router.
/test/whatever should be invisbly forwarded to /public/test/whatever (The url should stay /test/whatever).
I now have this:

You only need the last rule
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ public/$1 [L]
for the root dir .htaccess file. This will rewrite everything to the public/.htaccess, including requests starting with /test.
As long as public/test/ is a directory, and any requested URLs starting with /test/ are real files inside public/test, this will be sufficient, because the conditions
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
will prevent existing files and directories to be handled by index.php.
If test is not an existing directory, or the requests for /test/... are not real files, you need additional rules. Possibly in /public/.htaccess or in /public/test/.htaccess.
The reason for /test being rewritten to /public/test/test was the combination of
# /.htaccess
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ public/test/$1 [L]
where (.*) already includes test, which becomes public/test/test, and then
# /public/.htaccess

I've been asked to help on an ExpressionEngine site that's been developed. There is an existing .htaccess file that rewrites anything that isn't a file or directory so that it goes via index.php:

However, It also needs to deal with old URLs which will be in the form:

You can use add a rule above your existing rule to for mapping product -> products:

My .htaccess file is:

It works perfectly in most cases. But if the requested url exists as a real folder, it goes crazy.
For example when i request /random it is rewritten to index.php?_url=random with status code 200, but for /static (which is an existing directory on the web server) it gives a 301 redirect to /static/?_url=static

If you want to exclude existing files and directories from being rewritten, do so with a RewriteCond

So I want to set things so that all requests go through index.php.
Some Google searches gave me this mod_rewrite

This works. But, I don't want it to run if I actually hit index.php.
So
I want www.domain/test to be treated as www.domain/index.php/test, which it does.
But if I hit www.domain/index.php/test in the browser, it should do the same thing but it redirects to a home folder somewhere.
Also I read that I wouldn't want this redirect to happen with css, js and robots.
How do I make the rule not do anything for index.php?

I've completed a fresh install of SocialEngine PHP in my private server.
I also need now to install Moodle, and access in the following way to it:
http://www.example.com/moodle
SocialEngine creates its own .htaccess file, so every time I try to access the moodle directory, I got a "Page Not Found. The page you have attempted to access could not be found." because the redirection forces it to search moodle inside SocialEngine plugins, and I want it to redirect to a /moodle/ directory inside /httpdocs.
I am very noob with .htaccess options, I need a hint about what can I do.

I would exclude the moodle-folder in every rewrite and check if it works. After it is working I would remove it in every rule where you don't really need it.
