I'm moving a site from one e-commerce software to another, and I've created URL Rewriter rules to do 301 redirects from the Old URLs to the new ones. I've tested them with a small sample of URLs, but I'm looking for some sort of tool that will let me test as many of the URLs as possible. Does anyone know of a tool that I can feed a list of URLs (or a sitemap.xml). This tool will attempt to retrieve each URL, and then report the status code for each. The result should be a list of URLs with the status code, something like this:
www.site.com/oldurlformat1/ 301 Permanently Moved
www.site.com/newurlformat1/ 200 OK
www.site.com/oldurlformat2/ 301 Permanently Moved
www.site.com/newurlformat2/ 200 OK
I can almost do this with wget, but getting the summary/report at the end is where I'm stuck.

I've used Xenu a long time ago, for a list of URLs to check and it was ok.
From the features list, the things that might help you:
Detects and reports redirected URLs
Site Map
I haven't used it since then and can't say how well the current version works, but it might be worth a try.

I think you can use Google webmaster's tools to do that.
Just sign up to this service, and submit the sitmap.
You'll have a feedback on what's OK and what's wrong.

When you share a file on OneDrive programatically, you get the long link, something like that:
https://onedrive.live.com/redir.aspx? cid=02b2003892980058&resid=2B200389298**!371&parId=2B2003892980058!303&authkey=!AA4PmQJeIl6O-Ks&v=3&ithint=photo%2c.jpg
If you do this through the OneDrive site, you first get the long link, but after that you are given the opportunity to shorten it. However, I do not see a functionality to shorted the shared link being available in OneDrive's API. Is it possible to shorted the link programatically?
The OneDrive service uses Bit.ly to perform the link shortening, rather than using OneDrive as the proxy since we have additional security measures in place to prevent over-usage I'd recommend you use the Bit.ly or another URL shortening service APIs directly for your scenario.
Thanks for the tip! Had the exactly same issue but couldn't solved it by using Bit.ly service. Such a pitty we (non-MS collaborators/insiders) cannot use the aka.ms service API that's great, haha. Had to go to another URL Shortener that worked great ( https://www.tiny.cc/ ). Cheers

I have been using the Google Dictionary API and accessing it with this url:
http://www.google.com/dictionary/json?callback=a&q='test'&sl=en&tl=en&restrict=pr,de&client=te
However, now this url throws an error.
Then, I found this site: http://google-dictionary.so8848.com/meaning?word=test and this works fine. Digging around their site I found the same url as mine in their code. Yet, when copied and pasted into a browser also throws an error.
So, I believe somehow this site is still able to access this Google dictionary API though I don't know what url to try and/or if anyone has a suggestion for a different Dictionary API.
This service is no longer free, it is still the same API, but you have to pay to let you use it in your site or application. better to use an alternative solution like

I just had a call from norway saying that there is a weird domain redirect that ends up in a 404 error,
how can I simulate that I am in another country or replicate this error?
There is a service called Tunnel Bear , they allow you to install small application on computer, choose country where you want to "visit from" and then look at web sites as user from that country.
Also, there are lots of premium VPN solutions (i.e. ExpressVPN) which can be used to simulate this. It's pretty intuitive and easy to use. I think they have free account with some limited bandwith. #Carl_Whalley, if you want give it a shoot, hope it helps.
Finally, you can use Hoxx VPN proxy (installed as an free add-on for Mozilla) where you can choose multiple locations and change your IP.
Best and simple solution, works perfectly to me. http://www.locabrowser.com/
Try this site to test from different locations
http://www.webpagetest.org/
best way to do something like this is by using some proxy service.
List of web proxy services can be found at http://proxy.org/proxies_sorted.shtml , they are sorted by country.
Simply, find country you like (for example Norway), select any proxy and open web site with that proxy. It will be like you're visitor from that country. :)
Good luck

I have a list of URLs and I would like to capture the related sites as they would display in a standard view port for a given resolution (say 1024x768).
Does anyone know of a tool/web service/script that does just that?
Any standard PHP methods or libraries I could build on alternatively?
To give you an idea what I intend to use these images for: they should feed into a website, my own little place to collect domain names going to waste.
Web service: Browshot with the PHP library.
Tools: PhantomJS
I was wasting most of the day searching for a simple solution and finally found one. Ann Smarty wrote this article (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/take-multiple-screenshots-bulk-firefox/) about the free Firefox plugin Grab Them All, which makes it immensely easy to batch-generate snapshots to a specified size from a text file list of source URLs. Easy peasy, no coding necessary, other than maybe to change saved filenames. (There's a setting that uses a safe version of the supplied URL string, with unsafe characters changed to the underscore character.)

Web-based REST API browser (explorer, navigator, rambler)? [closed]

I'm teaching a lecture about APIs and would love to find a nice, free, Web-based tool to "browse" open REST APIs in a generic way, rendering XML and/or JSON payloads to the screen and speculatively turning anything that looks like a hyperlink into a hyperlink. So, for example, I could point it to:
http://services.healthindicators.gov/v4/REST.svc/IndicatorDescription/3/IndicatorDescriptionDataCategories/1
and see a nicely-rendered version of the data with clickable links.
Anybody know of a useful resource?
The Apigee Console is great. It supports a number of predefined APIs and a generic mode for any API. Apigee has a nice snapshot feature where you can make a request and then send a link to anyone and they can view the request/response you made.
There is also Hurl but it isn't always working.
I really like the Chrome HTTP Dev Client for exploring REST API's. Works great!
I use XML Tree for Chrome.
Highlights and formats XML and has the option to turn URLs into links.

This is an interesting way to show web api's
