Building a GPS Tracking Web System - gps

I'd like to develop a tracking system using an API of course (like the famous Orange API).
the idea is simple:
I send a SMS (from my Web interface) to the person i want to track
The person's mobile terminal (GPS like this) send me back automatically
the coordinates by SMS.
The sent information are displayed on the user's web interface.
The questions are simple:
How the terminal can send automatically the response?
How to indicate in the message that the information is for "user4655"?
How to make connection between the information and the database?

Ans: You set the gateway and the time intervals you want the device to send the sms to on the device itself.
* How to indicate in the message that the information is for "user4655"?
Ans: The gateway you use will have the API to determine that the number it is sent from. The device will use a registered phone number from either a sim or enabled by one of those cell providers.
* How to make connection between the information and the database?
Ans: I dont understand this. But I'm guessing you will have a database to keep track of the user data. You'll just probably need another table that is a child of the user, which has a list of the data and the time they came in.

How to push something to user in a rest API?

We already have a system in place that uses Restful APIs in order to send let's say SMS. All of our clients are using our server to send their requests to Rest API so we drop connections except our server IP to handle authentication.
Now policy has been changed. We want to expose our APIs to the outside world. We now want to be able to push to user under specific circumstances. Let's say that I want to send a delivery report to the user when SMS has been delivered. Or when something has been scheduled for a specific time, when that time arrives user get notified.
How to handle these notifs? Has anyone used the same or similar approach?
Assuming you can reach your clients back via HTTP. The model to do this is to use callbacks. When someone posts a scheduled job on your server, they should also post a callback URI where your server can notify when the job is complete.
Sample below:

So when the job is done your callback will be like
http://clientserver.com/reportStatusHere?jobId=12345&status=complete
Or if your clients are mobile apps on Andorid you can use the Google Push notifications.

Can Twilio provide any location data for incoming calls or sms?

I'm setting up a new time clock-type application for one of my clients. We need the worker's location whenever the worker calls in to confirm they are at the proper job site.
So I found some services like this one http://timesheetmobile.com/ which claim to be able to: "Unlike other location applications that run on the phone, Timesheet Mobile utilizes the carrier's secure network (cell towers) to identify the location of the employee's phone." They claim this works with any cellphone - no app required.
Is this kind of location data available from Twilio for either incoming calls or SMS?
In short, no, you can't use sms for geolocation. At best you could use any number of databases to find out the general area that the senders phone number is from, based on their areacode/exchange but not where they were when they sent it.

Does Parse (objective-c) Framework have a limit on channels?

Does Parse have a limit on the number of channels I can have? I am trying to send a push notification to individual users and the only way I can figure out how to do that is to set up a channel for each user. Other question: Is there a better way to do this?
I emailed Parse and this was the response I got:
Nope, there's no limit on channels. We'll be providing a better way to push to a specific user pretty soon. I'll put you down to get notified when it's ready.

I wanted to let you know that you can now push directly to a user on iOS, provided you are sending notifications via the REST API. This blog post has more information: http://blog.parse.com/2012/07/06/pushing-to-queries-in-ios/ . You can also target push notifications by device token, geographical region, or according to any other data that you store on a per-device basis.

IOS implementation of simple messaging system (client/server) between clients

i've been looking around to find a simple library or a client/server sample code for implementing a messaging system between users of my IOS clients app and a REST server. I would need that each user has an incoming and sent messages view. This view would display the conversations grouped by user. For example, using a table view where each cell represent a thread between the 2 distinct users, selecting a user's conversation it would push a new view that would display all the messages between the two users.
I have to say that i didn't found much, this is a mix of libraries and front ends:
an XMPP objective-c library: https://github.com/robbiehanson/XMPPFramework, but i don't really want an IM behavior
Acani chat, https://github.com/acani/AcaniChat seems promising but waiting for the acani chat server, i could use the front end
another chat https://github.com/honcheng/iOS-nodechat
MailCore, an IMAP api for objective-c: https://github.com/mronge/mailcore . i would need to relay on a mail server, create emails for each user and ... too much!
too bad there isn't any iMessage API
dont want to send a SMS or an email
push notification it's not a must to start
maybe coding a simple REST service for publishing and retrieving messages to and from a user would be the best approach? i'm i missing something?

how to handle multiple devices when using Push Notification?

I am developing an application in which I want to use push notification service. I have a server, now I want to know that
How do I handle multiple devices?
Is there a unique device id/name for every iphone?
Suppose I want to delete request for a specific device token, so how do I handle multiple users?
Is there a way I can generate unique name for every device through application?
You should really read the APNS documentation, this is all explained in depth there.
The short answer is that when you launch an app on the phone it requests a push notification key from the OS. You then take that key and send it back to your server. Your server uses that key when it sends a push via Apple's servers to indicate the devices to send the push out to.
The service just gives you a token. If you want accounts or device names you need to come up with them and store them with the credentials on your server.
You handle multiple users by same way you handle single users, you send message with the appropriate key to the service.
As for deleting a request, you can't. It is like a text message, there may be some latency before hits the device, but the moment you commit the push it could be delivered instantly.
