I have an old ASP.NET app connecting to a .NET Remoting service. I'd replaced the .NET Remoting service to a WCF service. I have the original WSDL and I've generated a WCF service by the help of svcutil. I don't know whether the client will able to connect and call the WCF service without changing its code.
Is it possible to solve this problem, please?
A service can be both a remoting service and a WCF service at the same time.
Just configure it with RemotingServices as usual for remoting.
Then decorate with OperationContract / ServiceContract and construct with ServiceHost and you can create clients for both techniques, just that remoting is TCP only.
WCF and Remoting are different paradigms. So if you changed your Remoting server to .NET WCF service, you will have to change the client code to use the wsdl generated client
look at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/wcf/migrating-from-net-remoting-to-wcf#Client_Comp. it should not be difficult
I would like to know if any of you knows how to consume wcf services from MVC 4 web API.
I know it might sound crazy but I have to have them both in the same solution, that's why I need to know if anyone here can provide me with some tutorial or some more detailed explanation.
Thanks in advance.
generate your proxy class using your wcf service contract
call the proxy class from your web api to access the wcf service.
or make use of Castle Windsor WCF facility and let it create the client on the fly for you.

I'm newbie in WCF. I have some questions need to be answered.
Can I use WCF to make a simple chat application from a client to a client (via WCF Service) ?
I have tried follow many examples, And i got a problem. I don't think that IIS need to be installed when i using WCF Selft Hosted, right ?
Sorry about my English !
You don't need IIS for self-hosted WCF services. Look at the ServiceHost class.
Yes, you can make a chat application (client to client) using a service "in the middle". The clients would have to register with the service and then a callback contract should do the job.
Does anyone know how to host a WCF Data Service (or OData) inside IIS7? I'm seeing lots of articles about hosting WCF, but none specific to WCF Data Service.
Thank you very much.
Hosting a WCF Data Service in IIS is actually the default option.
Its a pretty easy 3 step process:
Create a new WebApplication project (or re-use an existing one)
Add a WCF Data Service to the project
Deploy to your IIS server
Step 3 is just the standard process for deploying a WebApplication to IIS.
A WCF Data Service is just a WCF (REST) service, with some additional out-of-the-box functionality added in.
It has a *.svc file and all - it will be hosted very much the same as a "regular" WCF REST service.
So all the articles you see about WCF REST should really apply to WCF Data Services as well - or are you experiencing some difficulties with something specifically??
How can we consume WCF service in .Net 2.0 Winform. Please note that we don't have IIS on the client. an example or a sample would be great.
It all depends on how your WCF endpoints are configured.
If you're using SOAP based WCF Services over HTTP, you should be able to simply add a Service Reference from your .NET 2.0 WinForms application and be on your way (which is what I would suggest doing).
If that's not the case, you'll have to provide a little more detail about what you're trying to do with your WCF Services.
You can host your WCF service in a Windows Service as per this article. In that case, it will listen on the HTTP protocol on any port you configure.
