How do I install the Apache FtpServer as a service within Windows 7 (64-bit)? - apache

I tried everything I could think of, but I always get this error when I try to start the Apache FtpServer service.
Windows could not start the Apache FtpServer on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 0.
Has anyone got Apache FtpServer to function as a Windows service in Windows 7 or even Windows Vista?
Note:
My Java_HOME environment variable is set as c:\java and I have a symbolic link, linking this directory to the longer C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_17.
I also have another symbolic link pointing c:\ftp to the longer C:\Program Files (x86)\Apache Software Foundation\apache-ftpserver-1.0.3.
The only reason I did any of this in the first place is because I was reading that some people were having problems with spaces or long path names, but I tried physically moving the directories as well, all with the same error.

I had the same issue today using apache ftpser 1.0.5., the error message was "Failed installing 'ftpd' service".
The solution was to start the DOS command shell as "Administrator".

Lucee Express on local Dev

I’m currently running window 7, ACF 11, and IIS 7 and would like to install Lucee express to try.
I’m having the hardest time getting Lucee to work on my local desktop. I followed this article http://www.gpickin.com/index.cfm/blog/setting-up-lucee-in-my-dev-environment-changing-ports I can’t get the Lucee welcome page to work.
I download the Lucee Express from here http://lucee.org/downloads.html
I extract the file to C:\lucee
Ran the C:\lucee\bin\startup.bat
Navigated to 127.0.0.1:8888
I get the follow message: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:8888
Can someone tell me what am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance for your insights.
As identified in the comments on the question: you are missing the environment variable pointing to your Java runtime (you need one of JAVA_HOME or JRE_HOME.
This can be achieved in one of a coupla ways.
Set it globally:
Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Environment Variables > System Variables > New...
Or set it for just that environment by editing the startup.bat file you've already been using:
SET JAVA_HOME=[path]
In both situations you need a path to either a JRE or a JDK. You say you have CF11 already installed, so you can simply point to its one, which will be a subdirectory of your CF install, as Leigh points out above. So something like:
SET JRE_HOME=D:\apps\Adobe\ColdFusion\11\express\jre
If you have a Java JDK installed instead and want to use that, use JAVA_HOME instead of JRE_HOME, eg:
SET JAVA_HOME=D:\apps\Oracle\Java\jdk\1.8.0_60
As these things can be installed anywhere, you'll just need to locate 'em and use the path accordingly. You want to point it to the top level directory of your JRE or JDK, which contains the bin subdirectory.

Redis Server doesn't start or do anything - Redis-64 on Windows

I'm following these steps outlines on this link, however when I try to start the server nothing happens nor can I connect to anything from the client. Does anyone know how to run this?

The easiest way to install Redis is through NuGet:
Open Visual Studio
Create an empty solution so that NuGet knows where to put the packages
Go the Package Manager Console: Tools –> Library Package Manager –>Package Manager Console
Type Install-Package Redis-64

Miguel is correct, but it is not that simple. To start redis-server either as a service or from the command prompt, the amount of available RAM and disk space must be sufficient for Redis to run as configured.
Now, if no configuration file is specified when running Redis, it will use the default configuration values. All of this is documented in the redis.windows.conf file as well as in the document "Redis on Windows.docx" (both deployed with the redis installation).
In my experience, errors when starting Redis usually come from lack of available resources (RAM or disk space) or some incorrect configuration of maxhead or maxmemory parameters.
To troubleshoot this kind of behavior, check your system's available resources and try running redis-server from the command line varying the parameters maxmemory, maxheap, and/or heapdir. The loglevel parameter set to verbose might also help diagnosing the issue.

I have checked Application files in publish options and Global.XmlSerializers.dll is included. Anyone know why this is happening?
Is there any way to copy some extra files to installation folder(C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Apps..) when installing or updating clickone application? Because we use some outside support files for our application. Is it possible?

It is looking for a file on the D: drive. It is unlikely that your users all have their D drive mapped to the same location. When you publish you should use the full path rather than mapped drive letters.

Does the install work for you?
Well, there no magic involved in ClickOnce: you can just look into the deployment folder - is the required file there or not?
If not, you need to change the settings in the Publish options for the required file. This message - in my experience - is always a sign that one of the required assemblies has not been published.
In addition it seems that you published to a mapped network drive instead of publishing to an UNC path. You need to publish to a path following the \\server\name\ scheme.
When I have used the wizard and deployed to a network share, in the Publish Wizard:
Specify the location to publish this application:

Click Next

Error in registering COM server from bat file lauched from RunOnce

I am currently working on my product installation in Windows XP 64-bit machine. I am trying to register my COM modules as part of installation. I am doing this by adding an entry in 'RunOnce' (registry) key to launch a bat file and registration is done from that bat file.
All my COM dlls are registered correctly but two of the COM servers (.exe) showing error that it failed to load one of its dependency dll. But the same dll is statically linked with another COM server and this server registered successfully !
And surprisingly running the same bat file directly(double clicking on it) doesn't generate any errors and its works fine for all assemblies!. I have checked this in couple of my test machines only of the machines showing this behavior. Unfortunately that't the customer tool machine.
Its not dependency dll not available issue. Because after registering all files by directly running the bat file, I could reproduce this again by adding a key in RunOnce manually and restarting the machine.
Additional info, I am accessing this machine remotely via logmein.
Exact error message: "This application has failed to start because XXX.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem".
This XXX.dll is not available in the same path but its in another folder and its path is available in path variable.

Debugging Solaris OS crash

I have access to a remote Solaris terminal which crashes occasionally, and I have to ask someone with physical access to boot the machine up, which it does successfully. I would like to know which tools/files should I look at to find out the cause of the crash so that I can make the necessary configuration changes and avoid it in the future.
What tools you can use will depend on what version of solaris you have running and what the actual problem
is. The first thing to do is check the system console (which it sounds like you don't have access to) and the /var/adm/messages file. This file is updated with system messages and the newest will appear at the end.
Next, you can look for a system core file. If a core file is created, it would be in /var/crash/hostname where "hostname" is the name of the machine.
If you have an actual core file in the /var/crash/hostname directory, this set of commands will give you a good
string to search google with:
# cd /var/crash/hostname
Replace "hostname" with the hostname of your machine.
# mdb -k unix.0 vmcore.0
If you have multiple core files, select the most recent version.
> ::status
This should give you a panic message, cut and paste that into google and see what you can find.
