I would like to install a web server on my Window 7. I found instructions for installation of Apache on Windows 7. But as far as I understood I need to have the administrator permission to do so. Am I right?
I also though that it is probably a good idea to install another web server (like a native one) on my Windows 7. I thought it should be easier to do + apache is not designed for Window 7. Driven by these ideas I found some information about Microsoft IIS server. But than it is written that I need to have the Professional edition or the Ultimate edition of Windows 7. Does anybody know how can I check my edition? I do not know which edition I have.

You can Start -> Right Click Computer and then select Properties. In the Window you will see the version of the windows.
Apache will work for Windows 7. I use easyphp in my Windows 7 Ultimate Machine. yes you need Admin access to install software.

Installing IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 Home Premium, Home Basic, or Home Starter
Some Editions come installed with iis (I think). To check just Do the following
Run -> inetmgr
or. Control Panel -? Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services.

Just as the title says, I'm having a bit of a problem connecting from a Hyper-V Manager instance on a Windows 10 machine to a Hyper-V Server 2012 which is found on the same network. Neither of them, however, is joined to AD/DNS/etc... they are both running in WORKGROUP and I'm trying to access the server with the \server\user path and with a user on the server with admin rights and privileges to all of the connected services.
I keep getting the following:
"An error occurred while attempting to connect to server. Check that
the Virtual Machine Management service is running and that you are
authorized to connect to the server." "You do not have the required
permission to complete this task. Contact the administrator of the
authorization policy for the computer."
I have pretty much depleted all of Google's natural resources on this topic and this particular error and I can confirm that nothing from different workarounds/tutorials worked and that all of the relevant services are in fact started/working etc.
Any ideas please? :)
Add the target account credentials to the Windows Credential Manager from the command line and try reconnecting
cmdkey /add:TARGET /user:TARGET\USER /pass
If you are not signed in as administrator, when you open hyper-v manager "run as administrator"
Make sure you run the PowerShell terminal as administrator ("run as administrator")

I am trying since 2 days. I was able to Install but I Cant see my all services in 'SQL Server Configuration Manager and I cannot access sql server management studio.
It works fine on my windows 7 laptop and it have all the services.
Xp have only 'SQL Server(SQLEXPRESS)' running and 'SQL SERVER AGENT(SQLEXPRESS)' and 'SQL SERVER Browser' stopped. I right clicked and tried to start but start is disabled. I am not sure whether this is installation issue or because of windows xp.
You can find a list of supported operating systems and requirments here.
I checked for you and XP Professional service pack 3 is in the list.
You can try if updating your service pack works?

I'd like to install Windows Server on an old desktop pc to act as a small web server for our lan. With all the variations available, not sure which one would be ideal:
Windows Server Standard 2008
Windows Server Standard 2008 R2
Windows Server Standard 2008 R2 with SP1
Windows Server Standard 2008 with Service Pack 2
Windows Server Standard 2008 without Hyper-V
Windows Server Standard 2012
Windows Small Business Server Essentials 2011
Windows Web Server 2008 <-- overkill?
Is there a better version of Windows server we could use or would Windows 7 be just fine to act as a CF10 web server? We don't care if the web server is running iis, apache, or tomcat.
You actually don't need to install Windows Server on your pc, to use it as webserver. You can simply install IIS 6/7/7.5 as per the compatibility of your system.

I have some devices with Windows CE 5, CE 6, Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5.
Synchronizing with ActiveSycn 4.5 on XP and Windows 7 I have no problems.
Now I'm facing the new Windows 8 and I cannot connect. Does anyone know how to connect?
Done! First I connected the device, windows 8 detected it, but it could not install it.
Then I executed Windows update on Windows 8, there were like 20 updates pending. This installed Compact framework 2 and 3.5 among other packages. Reboot, and now everything is working fine.
Download
http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/4/3/0432540e-2d1a-415d-9c9d-a9963e43503e/drvupdate-amd64.exe for win8 64bit and reconnect your device.
There are few errors during installation - just ignore it.

I installed win 8 rtm on my laptop and today decided i wanted to RDP to it. I went to the remote table of the 'system properties' dialog and theres no option to enable it. There's a useless 'remote assistance' fieldgroup that microsoft apparently want to force me to use.
What I want is the magic checkbox that lets anyone RDP in. I've seen (http://blogs.technet.com/b/digital_musketeer/archive/2011/09/14/how-to-enable-remote-desktop-on-the-windows-8-ctp.aspx) other people have the option but I don't. Mine looks like the screenshot in the link except the remote access field group isn't there. I am an admin. Anyone know the reg key to turn this on?
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_8_editions#Comparison_chart only the Pro and Enterprise versions of Windows 8 can host RDP. So if you don't have any of those versions you will not be able to connect to you laptop using RDP. Also confirmed on the offical Windows team blog at http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive/2012/04/16/announcing-the-windows-8-editions.aspx.
I'm running the Windows 8 Enterprise RTM and I can get the same dialog as in your linked blog post. There are slightly different choices but the options are there, see http://www.guidingtech.com/13469/how-to-enable-remote-desktop-in-windows-8/ for screenshots of the dialog in Win8 RTM.
